One of the problems I had with the weapons in Mass Effect 2 was that they all had wildly different characteristics, with different base damage, rate-of-fire, and squad, armor, shields, and barrier bonuses for each weapon...none of which is visibly unless you go searching around online or digging into the Coalesced.ini file. For those that are just looking for a collection of statistics that have been pulled from the Coalesced.ini file, there's a great and informative table at http://www.gamefaqs....ct-2/faqs/58941 (not made by me). I used those values to create my own DPS table in Google Docs, which takes into account base damage, any bonuses, rate-of-fire, as well as clip size and reload speed. You can find the table here: https://docs.google....dXBNUlpTQ2NuZGc
A few things to note with my table:
1) The formula I use for base DPS is as follows:
(dmg * clip size) / ((clip / rds per min * 60) + 1.5)
This formula equates to the total damage done per clip divided by the time it takes to empty the clip plus the time it takes to reload, which is always 1.5 seconds (the varying is insignificant).
2) The first set of DPS values shows the base DPS done to an enemy's health bar, the other DPS values reflect a weapon's bonus against armor, shields, or barriers.
3) The seconds set of DPS values is the base DPS and then bonus DPS but with the squad bonus factored in. When you look at the DPS values for your squad you'll notice that although one gun might have the best DPS for you, that same gun might have a significantly lower bonus for your squad, making a different gun a better choice for your squad members. A prime example of this is the M-96 Mattock and the M-15 Vindicator or the M-9 Tempest and M-4 Shuriken.
4) The values in the coalesced.ini file for shotguns are for single pellets. Since the shotguns all fire 8 pellets (with the exception of the Geth Plasma Shotgun which fires 3) I've instead calculated the base damage for the entire shot.
5) Lastly, you'll notice 2 sets of values for the Geth Plasma Shotgun. This is because this shotgun can be charged for up to 2 seconds, to get more damage, as you'll notice in the base damage value. However, because of the 2 second charge, you'll notice a significantly lower rate-of-fire, which in turn shows a lower DPS value for the charged shot. However, while the damage of continuous shots would be less, the damage of a single shot is close to triple...something to keep in mind.
Anyways, I know Mass Effect 2 has been out for going on 3 years now, but it's one of my favorite games of all time, and after playing Mass Effect 3, which has basically the same weapons, but with the much needed stats visible, I decided to do a little research into the ME2 weapons, before beginning yet another playthrough, and I though there might be others out there who could benefit. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions!
