I'm curious to see what people thought of DA2, and what they want to see transferred to DA3. If you want to list things from Origins as well, as a contrast to what you do/don't want to see in DA3, please do.

I personally think this:

From DA2: I want to see the more efficient combat system (I liked the speed), despite the small issues I had with the character wheel and hearing my Hawke say something completely off, I did enjoy getting to see her face more often and actually feeling like she was participating in a conversation (whereas the Warden just kind of stood there and stared awkwardly), and I liked how it wasn't necessarily clear which choices were 'good' always, and how some of your companions disaproved of your 'good' choices (Carver likes earning money I guess).

From Origins: I like all the variety of the Origin background (although I felt sad when no one acted racist towards my city elf I thought that should've been there), and I liked being able to talk to my companions at any time, no matter where we were. I also liked the camp, it made it easier to equipt them all their armor at one time instead of traveling around.

I would also like to see some of the story threads wrapped up (I just know Morrigan is going to be important *eye twitch* she has to be!).

What I don't want to see. period: re-used maps, alien-elves (or at least please fix Alistair and Zevran), and mushy-faced Darkspawn.

What do you all think?

The over the top art style and combat would cause maximum butthurt, so I'd say keep those two things. In fact, they should come out and say that they're intentionally ramping up the "cool" factor of the combat and art style.

Hot Rod Samurai? I want to see Burning Pole Shogun art style.

Also, even though the execution was bad, moving away from BioWare's traditional "go to these 3/4 places and get something" formula was a good idea.

That is all.

There are several things I want carried over from dragon Age 2:

Faster combat. Not necessarily the flashy and cartoony combat, I thought it was over the top, but Origins was too slow paced.

Friendship/Rivalry. I liked the system, although it was still flawed. We just need an option for genuine hate. I want my companions to hate me and have no respect for me if I insult them too much, maybe even just leave me altogether.

Voiced Protagonist, I just prefer them in general.

Level and Quality of party banter. I thought it was even better than in Origins.

Companions who look unique, not like they could be created in the character creation screen. Although I also want to be able to change their armour to a noticeable extent.

I also want many things from Origins to be returned, like being able to choose which race your character is, being able to equip your companions with armour and slightly more realistic looking combat. Female dwarves would also be nice, as they seem to have recently disappeared.

Well, in DA2 the textures looked less like they were drawn on old coffee filters with watercolor paint than they did in DA:O so I guess I liked that.

Combat, Dialogue Wheel, Friendship/Rivalry, divergent skill trees, unique specializations for party members, voiced protagonist.

I don't really care about art style so much, as long as they don't go back to the "Fifty Shades of Mud" that DA:O had. DA2 is a vast improvement, but still nothing like as colourful as I would like.

The real world is a bright and vibrant place, and if Thedas is supposed to feel real, then it should be bright and vibrant too.

With what you've said on the armor, I know they've discussed at panels the idea of having a 'set look' but with the ability to accesorize said look with stat-ted armor pieces...so what is clearly a steel set of gauntlets would have slightly differing looks on the different companions. No confirmation if this will actually happen though.

I remember seeing that panel on youtube, but I have never been able to find it since. I thought that it was a very good concept, so long as they create a wide variety of different looks rather than three different appearances per slot recoloured five or six times. If they can pull it off I really think it can work, and I'm hoping they go through with it.

Skill trees and combat system.

I want to return to DAO for everything else including the toolkit for awesome mods and bugfixes

Seriously Bioware never did a thing to fix their bugged endings and character dialogues but the modding community came together and gave us the Zevran and Morrigan and Alistair romances that Bioware meant for us to see but were too damn lazy to fix themselves. Then we got sweet armor better hair better colors to the world and even extra cutscenes to enhance the game. My fem mages always got a thing going on with Cullen now thanks to a short kiss scene and My couslands always get to hug papa one last time. And My dalish can be a mage if I want her to and if Morrigan is my friend her and Alistair have a Gaider inspired meeting all thanks to community modding.

I honestly don't know/can't think of any right now. I can think of a nearly endless list of things from DA:O I wish they had kept though.

Personally, I don't want Morrigan to be a big part; I don't want ANY of the previous characters from past games to play a big role. References, small cameos that last a few minutes I can deal with, but not stuffing them right in the main story. Kinda like how they nicked Merrill, Anders Isabela and made them Companions in DA2. NO. I want new ones, new characters, not the same old.

Combat; Loved the combat from DA2, the combat from DAO nearly put me to sleep.
Dialogue: Liked the dialogue from DAO more, mostly due to the variety of choice and reactions. With DA2 it was mostly "Helpful/good, snark/funny, ass/violent" in choice. MORE CHOICE if we get a voiced protagonist.

Be able to play as more races! Lame being human every playthrough in DA2.

I can agree with you on the Merrill and isabela part (have yet to play Awakenings so Anders didn't feel changed, as some people say he was). It was sort of how I felt playing ME3, and randomly running into people like "oh hey! small universe!"

NO.
So if they want to reference the important people like the Wardne, Anders/Hawke (not really sure which one of them plays the bigger role honestly in DA2) that has some potential...but it's playing with fire. I wouldn't mind at least seeing how Morrigan's ending works out...I'm doing a male warden playthrough just so I can see how that romance goes and what effect (if any) it'll have in DA3...

Alright, if i would start with DA:O as the basis then add DA2 elements that i want in DA3 the list would look something like this:

1. Character customization in the game - I don't know how many times in DA:O i made a character that looked great in the CC but looked weird once you started playing. The mirror in the DLC is something you should have had in the original game and is something DA3 should have.

2. Move command in combat - I play DA on the PS3 and the ability to assign party members to move to a spot was a very good "innovation". Moving 4 people away from a AOE in DA:O was a pain since you had to do it manually. In my opinion this was the only improvement from DA:O in terms of combat.

3. Party members help in dialogue - I can't believe what i am about to do. I am actually going to want something from the dialogue system in DA2. I don't like the voiced protagonist for a non-set character and paraphrase makes roleplaying impossible; but the option to have the party members engage in the dialogue, after the protagonist ask for it that is, was a good addition.

For example early in the game when you ask Aveline to deal with the merchant to get the sovereigns required to get into the city. However, i need more information than just "Take over Aveline" in the dialogue. But that is not the features fault but rather the awful system that is paraphrasing.

All other changes, in my opinion, was a regression in one form or another.

Nothing, not only was Dragon Age 2 a bad bioware game, it was a bad game full stop, there is no quality in Dragon Age 2, the combat system was especially bad.

Things from DA2 I'd like to see again:

friendship/rivalry - that way both sides are interesting and the companions don't just stop talking to you and leave if they dislike you. Although I really hate gaining rivalry with some companions simply for accepting quests - it's a game of course the player will accept every quest even from shady smugglers (I'm looking at you Aveline).

day/night - I really liked this in DA2. Although it could be improved and night areas could have more interesting content than just random bandit groups jumping at you.

voiced PC - I don't really mind the dialogue wheel, I like the silent protagonist I just don't think Bioware will go back to that. I also liked the option of asking your partymember for help during dialogue.

family - I like the idea of PC having family to take care of and a home to go to.

owning a house - I really liked the way Hawke would walk around and comment on various things in his house, I just wish there was more to do with the house and more quests involving it, like the burglar your dog catches.

not so urgent main plot - DA2 main plot was a bit confusing but I liked the quest of gathering money for the expedition. It actually gave you a reason to do sidequests, walk around and talk to people while in DAO you could wonder why you were gathering elfroots for someone while the blight was raging and there was no time to lose.

Things from DAO I'd like to see again:

combat - I prefer DAO style combat and I don't want to see enemies coming in waves like in DA2 again.

origins - This isn't a must for me, but I'd really like class origins with different starting points. DA2 begginning was just boring.

ending and epilogue - I just want a decent ending that explains what happened to everyone depending on your choices and basically wraps everything up. And please NO MORE disappearing heroes. I don't want to play to the end and find out MY character just disappeared into the unknown. You can say my char got married, became king ... and had more adventures but don't just say he disappeared. I want the ending of the game to be THE END and not just some cliffhanger for the next game. I also really liked the throne room epilogue in DAO, I though it was nice to talk to everyone after the final battle and ask them of their plans or ask them to come with you.

companions vital to the plot - I liked the way Alistair and Morrigan were integrated to the main plot and weren't just two people who had nothing better to do but follow your char around. The way you could shape their lives was really cool: Alistair could be king, king with Anora or with female PC he could die or he could just become some drunk.

Cross class combos and skill trees. The rest can all be thrown out or revamped.

I hope they start with the solid foundation of DA:O and improve things from there.

The option to be a mage, including a blood mage. Hopefully, being a mage can actually be addressed in the narrative, instead of being blatantly ignored.

That's pretty much it. I wasn't a fan of Dragon Age II, nor was I a fan of the "innovations" that they implemented.

The improved Mage combat. In Origins it was waaay too slow. However lose the waves of enemies. When facing 20 enemies with a party of 4, and defeating them all, I want the fighting to be done. It's just overkill to have to fight the battle all over again.

I liked the conversation wheel, but it could be more specific, less paraphrasing.

Definitely the character creator mirror, that should be in every Bioware game from now on.

Meaningful romances, only with the ability to show affection,(kisses, hugs) throughout the game, not in just one short part.

I couldn't think of anything then remembered Dog as a summoning. The Black Emporium. Companion quests. Companion armor upgrades. Weapons that upgrade as you level. Fetch quests. (I still like finding some guys pantaloons.)
