The surprise change of genre from the preceding Dragon Age game.

This? This should never happen.

Even though it was a little over the top "catwalky" and did not fit with Hawke as a person. Being a killing machine and all. But I liked that Bioware wanted to make it different. Just don't overdo it next time.
Everything else should go away.

Things from DA2 I'd like to see again:
friendship/rivalry - that way both sides are interesting and the companions don't just stop talking to you and leave if they dislike you. Although I really hate gaining rivalry with some companions simply for accepting quests - it's a game of course the player will accept every quest even from shady smugglers (I'm looking at you Aveline).
day/night - I really liked this in DA2. Although it could be improved and night areas could have more interesting content than just random bandit groups jumping at you.
These were good additions.
voiced PC - I don't really mind the dialogue wheel, I like the silent protagonist I just don't think Bioware will go back to that. I also liked the option of asking your partymember for help during dialogue.
I've actually gotten used to the idea of a voiced protagonists. The character doesn't just stare blankly during dialogue. It makes a lot of scenes better, like Hawk's mother's death, and romance scenes as well. But i really- really- really HATE the paraphrasing.
family - I like the idea of PC having family to take care of and a home to go to.
owning a house - I really liked the way Hawke would walk around and comment on various things in his house, I just wish there was more to do with the house and more quests involving it, like the burglar your dog catches.
I really liked this as well.
Things from DAO I'd like to see again:
combat - I prefer DAO style combat and I don't want to see enemies coming in waves like in DA2 again.
Yes, but a little faster than DAO. I liked the CCCs and setting tactics. I hope they return, though the tactic choices need expanding. I like the talent trees, but hope they give us more upgrades.
origins - This isn't a must for me, but I'd really like class origins with different starting points. DA2 begginning was just boring.
ending and epilogue - I just want a decent ending that explains what happened to everyone depending on your choices and basically wraps everything up. And please NO MORE disappearing heroes. I don't want to play to the end and find out MY character just disappeared into the unknown. You can say my char got married, became king ... and had more adventures but don't just say he disappeared. I want the ending of the game to be THE END and not just some cliffhanger for the next game. I also really liked the throne room epilogue in DAO, I though it was nice to talk to everyone after the final battle and ask them of their plans or ask them to come with you.
I hear you.
companions vital to the plot - I liked the way Alistair and Morrigan were integrated to the main plot and weren't just two people who had nothing better to do but follow your char around. The way you could shape their lives was really cool: Alistair could be king, king with Anora or with female PC he could die or he could just become some drunk.
Yes, Cassandra. And with your origin: Cullen or a Former Circle Mage- now rebel. Two paths, pro- Mage, pro- Templar.

That said, I like:
- being able to be recognized for a personality type (such as being a snarky bastard or polite/diplomatic) instead of the only choices you're recognized for being plot flags (I'd love to see it expanded, so that character might even remark how my personality may have changed throughout the story - "You used to joke around so much, but you've become so cynical);
- cross class combos (we really need options, opportunity, and variety in setting these up though);
- friendship/rivalry (though it needs to be made less about maxing out a meter and building points, and more of just an indicator of what kind of relationship you have with a companion to determine which dialog is appropriate)

That is all.
Dump everything else, the combat, the elf, darkspawn and qunari redesigns, the reused environments, the wave after wave of enemies, enemies spawning out of thin air/dropping from the concrete ceiling, the fetch quests, i can go on and on.

I actually liked the new look of the Qunari, which to me made a clearer indication that they were indeed another species and not just a clan of the especially big-boned.

I'm too lazy to hook up my Xbox and check, but its the armor warrior Hawke starts with equipped at the beginning of Act 1 in Kirkwall.

1) The combat
2) The skill tree's
Thats it. The rest of the game was a terrible mess, especially the story and the environments. The loot was terrible as well. The same NPCs were used over and over again in the same environments over and over again. The only thing that saw me to completion was the combat and I ended up liking the skill tree more than the original.
Even the characters were terrible in DA2. The only character I even remotely liked was Varric. The rest I didn't give a rats ass about including Hawke.
In the end I wouldn't be the least bit sorry if they turned DA3 into a DA:O clone. Origins give replayability. Having multiple endings doesn't hurt either. OH AND NOT BEING STUCK IN A SINGLE #*@#&@#& CITY WOULD BE NICE!!!!!
In short: Junk everything but the combat and skill trees. And ffs make an epic story that spans multiple locations with unique environments.

I can never get enough of that cave. It's awesome! The entire game should take place in that cave. Maybe it will, because the DA2 team obviously loved that cave also. Dump everything else from DA2 though...

Cullen. I think there's a decent basis for a story there.
Hmmm. It seems I'm one of those story-oriented people. Gameplay follows standards. You can take gameplay from one setting and place it in another. Stories, on the other hand, set standards. It is more difficult to successfully take gameplay from one game and place it in another story.

Isn't Tallis the main character in that awful, poorly acted web series? I think having her in DA3 would be nearly as bad as Chobot in ME3.

1. Linear Dialogue (Mainly caused by the Dialogue wheel)
2. Lack of playable races
3. Wave combat.
1 I feel is the biggest problem for me. I dislike when I'm not able to control the direction of a conversation within a RPG. In DA:O I feel you can do this much better, mostly because you aren't thrown into a "on-rails dialouge" when you initiate a conversation with somebody.

Combat Pace - I liked the faster pace of combat in Dragon Age 2. I could do without the ridiculous animations, but the speed I liked. They improved the way enemies appeared in the DLC, so I hope they remember that.
Voiced Versus Unvoiced - I've gotten to the point where I would be perfectly satisfied with either type of protagonist (For each has its own strengths) but I do like how much more involved my Hawke felt with her companions and the world than my Warden. If they tossed paraphrasing out the window, a lot of people would be happier.
Nontraditional Narrative Structure - I liked that they tried to get away from their usual go-to-3-or-4-places routine, even if it wasn't well executed. They might try refining the technique in the future.
Character Modification - The character modifying mirror in the Black Emporium was a stroke of genius.
Unique Companion Appearance- With the caveat that they need more customization options.
