Ive read all the topics..searched..and well just need some advice. I'm sorry if this has been brought up as nauseaum but new player here and well loving the game....

My PC is a female noble rogue...in a relationship with Alistair..and going for the happy King/Queen ending. Conversly I am protecting approval rep with Alistair and want to save both Connor and Isolde.

Having said that, I decided to do the Circle Tower after reaching Lothering at the start of my game as my first "major quest." I did so because I was told if you side with the mages, you can avoid the approval hit with Alistair and in fact gain a lot of approval in the process.

I plan on siding with the mages. I've just entered the fade.

Now Im reading I needed to go to Redcliffe first? Then go do the Circle Tower? Please tell me thats not the case and as long as I side with the mages I can go back to the Tower AFTER I start redcliffe to enlist their help with the lyrium ritual.

I'll be so pissed if I needed to do Redcliffe first. Stop half way through. Go and save the mages in the Circle Tower then come back and finish Redcliffe. Some of the forums say it doesnt matter what order you do it in as long as you save the mages.

Please advise and thanks for the long winded post...

No, you're fine. Don't worry about it. I do the tower before I do radcliff always.

You do NOT have to go to Redcliff first. You can, in fact, bring up having helped the mages and they owe you a favor, return to the tower and bring the mages back to save both Connor and Isolde, if you so desire. Just remember to keep saying things like "there must be another way!" until someone in your party brings up an alternative to Jowan's proposition.

You guys/gals are the best. I had a sudden Xanax moment there. Thanks!

You can do the Mage Tower before Redcliff and i usually do so i can get Wynne into me group as soon as possible. Especially if my main isn't a 'healer' styled Mage.

Im assuming I must be able to use the "Litany" thing to ensure i save the mages and not rescue the Templars by accident.

Strangely enough, there is a way to even gain approval, using Jowan. I decided to let Isolde sacrifice herself (for rp reasons). When Alistair blew up at me, I used the line that goes something like: "Well, I think that went rather well." I wanted to annoy Alistair, and imagine my surprise when he calmed down, and even gave a +7 to my PC. I never expected that, to be honest.

Isnt it amazing how the approval stuff can radically chage with just one subtle sequence of dialogue optins..oftenones that make no sense? I insult Shale in one way I get -5, in another way I'll get +8 with no rhyme or reason.

As long as you use the Litany once (whether it is properly timed or not) and then DON'T tell Gregoir that "even one blood mage isn't worth the risk" then you will save the mages. You have to really work towards siding with the templars.

And, girls rock! =P

The Litany will just help you to save more mages and have less mobs to fight. It prevents Uldred from making another abomination from the mages left in their normal form.

@ Sabrina that's a bug - by saying that line it tricks him into thinking you solved it the "proper" way. LOL I guess they figured no one would use it if they just killed someone

Yes, but if the First Enchanter dies (which he can do if you don't use the Litany), then when you go back to the Tower, you can't get the mages to go with you. Irving agrees to help with the ritual but he can't if he's dead. Greagoir will refuse to help you.

Can that happen? I never saw that lightning ring on him yet, it was always some other anonimous mage that Uldred tried to turn on. I never had to use Litany more than once tho.

I don't think Irving dies ever, 12 complete playthroughs, and never a dead enchanter, even when I killed Wynne and sided with Templars all the way through - most I've seen happen is he gets handed over to Gregoir for evaluation

Yeah, I still miss that sided with Templars achievement. I killed Wynne once but just for fun and reloaded again.

He definitely can. That you only have to use the Litany once actually surprises me. I guess it also depends on difficulty setting (and with that on how long the fight takes).

Maybe on nightmare setting, I freely admit I have never even tried that, thanks but Hard is hard

No Irving can die if you take to long to kill Uldred because he eventually turns him into an abomination, unless something changed with 1.02. I remember not knowing exactly how to use the litany for my first few tries and I kept getting mad because I wanted to save the mages but they all kept turning, including Irving.

Wow, that would suck. I tend to CoC him and whack at him, CoC it again, use the Litany maybe twice if I timed it poorly and then CoC him and shatter him.

Generally on normal/hard difficulty but I do like 3 mages party more than anything. Didnt do it for a while though, I am just testing some things with mods in this game.

Lol, yeah, I guess it would have to be. The change in Alistair is startling, going from screaming into my PC's face, and then instantly being very calm and approving.

I like to make him yell at me, lose 10 points, give him a runestone and make him go right back to flirting with me.
