Yes. Yes ^ 1000. They can even just leave the normal powers in, don't bother coming up with more powers for SP Shepard. I don't care. Shadow Strike would be SOOOOOO satisfying to murder The Little Cerberus **** Ninja with.

As long as I can get an N7 Typhoon for my Destroyer Shepard... eff squadmates. I'll just do this on my own.

Still, it would be much more efficent to just press the trigger of your plasma pistol than swing a sword multiple times which eventually leads to an exhaustion. Swords never make sense in present or in the future. No matter what we find and discover, swords will never ever come back.Seival wrote...
Shadow, Slayer, and Phantom swords are not just regular piece of metal. They ignore almost all defences, which means thay are powered by some tech and/or biotic abilities.

Well, melee weapons are still useful in some cases. That's why soldiers have omni-blades. Shadow, Slayer, and Phantom swords are not really different. But, without tech and biotic boosts they are not good against shields and armor.

According to lore, only very fast objects like bullts get deflected by shields. It's why you can still give your soldier buddy a high five without doing an impromptu mime act. Melee attacks move slow enough to bypass shields. This was reflected in the gameplay in ME1, and was why Husks were actually dangerous in that game. Bioware just added some gameplay and story segregation in the ME2 and 3 to balance out the gameplay more.
In other words, melee attacks in general DO have a viable reason to exist. Also, the Shadow, Slayer, and Phantom blades are monomolecular, which helps explain their effectiveness. We could make such blades now, but they would be EXTREMELY fragile, so the ME universe must have found some way to make them sturdy enough to justify their continued use. Omni-blades are flash-forged and are left in the enemy, so I theorize that they are monomolecular as well, but the fragility is a non-issue since each one-time uses.

Well, shields were modified since ME1. They work against some melee attacks, as we can see in the gameplay. Besides, fast sword attack can be considered as a hit by a fast object, so even old shields could protect a little from that, I suppose.
