While it seems to be a decided minority, some people here would seem to prefer to side with the templars, including going against the Chantry, in DA3. My hypothesis up until now has been that the templars will be DA3's main villains; however, while I admit I'd prefer that, I did have an idea for a somewhat more balanced alternative. Namely, I believe that if the player may side with the templars, they should also have the option to side with the extreme end of the mage revolution, such as the Resolutionists (if any are still around; they seem to have dissolved in Asunder, probably because the Kirkwall incident meant that their goal had been fulfilled) and Tevinter operatives. To allow the possibility of fighting for a new magocracy as well as just exterminating all mages. I believe that both sides' most extreme examples should be treated the same way, either via being able to ally with both or having to destroy both.
A compromise regarding possible sides in DA3

Mages cannot be destroyed, because there will always be new born Mages in Thedas.
Templars are just any person who consume lyrium or if lyrium not needed the ones who learn Templar ability...so it is them who can be destroyed
What i expect in DA3 is the total downfall of the Chantry and it's belief system. people no longer believe what the Chantry have been propagate all these time, they will not believe in the Chantry religion. They are the cause of the conflict.
So, there will be a groups...moderate, liberal and extremists on both sides.
The moderates will try to find the middle ground, the liberal will be the non cooperative but will consider options, while the extremist only seek absolute.
The player will have to choose between these 3.

The Resolutionists were a pointless plot point from "Faith" that only made "Sister Nightingale" look like an anti-mage imbecile (which seemed to be a running theme for people in Kirkwall).
I think it would be good to have different fraternities of mages, but I'm tired of the insane and stupid mages of Dragon Age II. Let's have some fleshed out, dynamic, and interesting mages fighting for their autonomy. Allow mages to fight for their autonomy without vilifying them simply because Gaider thinks fans "side with mages automatically."

Which is a tad irksome because I'd happily get rid of The Exiled Prince altogether if it didn't have a chance to meet Leliana. But the Resolutionists, being a Libertarian apostate offshoot, fascinated me and I've spent an inordinate amount of time thinking about them. In the end, though, now that the war is hot, they're unnecessary. And I believe DA2's mistakes on this part will not be repeated, or at least won't be repeated as badly. I have faith in DA3.The Resolutionists were a pointless plot point from "Faith" that only made "Sister Nightingale" look like an anti-mage imbecile (which seemed to be a running theme for people in Kirkwall).

doesn't have to be 6,
moderate Mage and Templar could be from 1 group, because they are moderates and they can work with each other
the liberals from both side may work with each other, but as long as they both can protect their own interests with the pact, if one of the party breaking the rule, they break up
the extremists on both side will never work with each other, because they are conservatives and they are seeking absolute power over the other
So it is about 5 or 4 faction actually

I can see a grand total of four factions tops.
Seekers who are still loyal to the Chantry, led by Cassandra or Leliana. Joining this one is about trying to end the war as soon as possible, and maybe restore the status quo with modifications (the reforms the Divine Jusinia wanted that Lambert and the templars staunchly opposed.)
The Mages, who seek total independence from the Chantry. They want the right to govern themselves and live as men. This path may lead to more blood mages and abominations (cool plot twist is if it would be short term huge spike, but at the end of the game, very few of either as the mages become better trained and aren't as desperate as they would've been.) The templars themselves grow more and more desperate, and start attacking the peasantry and even minor nobles so they can get their lyrium fix.
The templars who seek to destroy all the current mages, restore the Circle system with all of its previous restrictions and more, every mage who is alive today would be killed, and all new ones in the future would have that held over their head as they are kept in the Circles. But the mages who survive are so desperate that almost all of them are blood mages or abominations.
Or the Qunari who just kill everyone who resists and forcibly convert all to the Qun.

I reckon something big will happen so that everyone will be forced to work together, including the mages and Templars, then the game will end lol.
