I've an italian keybord and I've the "@" on the "ò" key, just on right to the "l".
It worked for me to press: ctrl+alt (or "option", for old mac users) + ò (the key with the @).
It's a little change from the way rsdmj proposed, maybe it work on US english keyboards.
