I am using a pre-generated gnome thief/illusionist that came with the game. He has dex 18 and at lvl1/1 he has thac0 with short bow 1 better than Imoen who is lvl 2. He also has insanely goof thief skils. Anybody else played that character?

A standard mage/thief with those stats would have the same THAC0 as Imoen as thieves don't improve this until level 3.

They are also special in much the same way.
As well as these "cheats" that help you, there are also "cheats" that hinder, as enemies also get illegal stats.
The way that I look at it, these characters could have got boosts in the same way as you can in the game from tomes and suchlike. So I don't really think that they are cheats at all.

Thanks. That's a lot of numbers.Quite a few of the Baldur's Gate characters have characteristics that
depart from the rules - it's not always clear whether this is
intentional or not, but I wouldn't try to change them personally. If
you want to see tables showing how THAC0 (and other things) change with
levels then have a look at this site

Interesting. I have never tought of it that way.
I must say I have played BG1 few times but never progressed too far. This pre-made T/I is a lot of fun, if only because I could open everything in Candlekeep, which is very satisfying. Although I have not had much luck pick pocketing.

Yes, he's a fun character, especially with a whacky gnome soundset (took a voice from the Spellhold Studios soundsets - http://www.spellhold...et/ie/soundsets). He's on an install I have on my old laptop which is at my parents house though, where I visit only about 10 times a year (other side of country) so I don't play him a lot. He's only just finished the Nashkel mines. It's nice you can combine him a lot easier with evil characters, as he's not Neutral Good, like most PC's I create myself. He doesn't mind a little misschief!
