I began playing Mass Effect only today. I bought the game from Stream as a digital copy.
I'm quite familiar with Bioware games, as I've played the whole Dragon Age series lots of times.
One thing I noticed and it's bothering me a lot is that although I saved my game a couple of times, when I exit and restart it, the option 'Load Career' is not available on the main menu. The only things I see are: 'New Career', 'Options' and 'Exit'. And inside my 'Save' file there's nothing but a file named 'Profile.MassEffectProfile'.
No saves, no nothing! I had to start a new game a couple of times, only ending up losing everything!
Also, when I start a new game and press Esc, I have the option to load my other saved games somehow, but when I select one to load, there's nothing but the cancel button. So techically, I can't load these games.
Now I've progressed quite a lot and I don't want to lose it! Thus, my only option is to keep my computer open and wait for someone to help me out of this.
I would really appreciate any help on the matter; I don't understand why this happens. I've even try googling it and see if anyone else had a similar issue, but nothing.

Thanks in advance.

Given that you've found nothing out on the web about this have you tried EA support directly?

Yes I have and they have no idea how to solve this.
In the end I had to play the game in another computer, in which it works perfectly but problem is it's not mine, so I can't play it any time.

You posted this in the ME-2 tech discussion forum.  ME-1 has its own forum.  Vista was an unsuccessful option, and Win7 didn't exist when Ossian produced the PC Conversion of the XBox oeriginal game.  If the game has been installed in the main C:\\Program Files folder, neither Vista nor Windows 7 wants to allow saves to change anything there.  Take this to the correct forum if an uninstall and reinstall outside of that location doesn't put an end to the situation.

Hardly relevant, but I just wanted to say that Demiurge, and not Ossian, ported ME1.

And I think I sorta remembered that, but Google did not. No matter how I rearranged Mass Effect and Conversion, for searches, it wouldn't give me anything useful.

It'll get more confusing because they chose an entirely different company to port ME3 to Wii U.
