This would be a good starting point for the character.  At the end of the day, he's a science hero who happens to have size changing abilities.  And lets not forget, that not only can he shrink and control insects, but he can grow supersised to.

They could always have him be Goliath and have it during the time when he could grow in size. He was a force to be reckoned with then.

I imagine that we will see the growing abilities, if not in the initial film then in a sequal or Avengers 2.

Just saw the ant man trailer, doesn't look like he's shrinking.

Any way, gonna pass it, this look like the usual "All the cool parts are in the two minute trailer and the rest is just boring talk" kinda film.

There's a trailer? They haven't even started filming!

Damnit! Fooled by youtube. Read the comments and it's a fan made trailer.

I still dont know who Ant man is but I cant say I have much faith in the movie from the title alone, of course one shouldnt judge a movie based on title alone but you gotta admit it doesnt give off a good first impression.

Hey, I thought Thor was going to bomb and it proved me seriously wrong. They'll probably shove in some other marvel character (Probably Nick Fury) to get a bigger audience.

Yea, again speaking for the stupid general movie going public, I'm gonna say "Who's Nick Fury and why do I care?"

Also speaking for the stupid general movie going public, I'm going to add:  "Guy's called Ant Man, and he doesn't shrink, he grows?  Wow, dumber and dumber".

I really don't see this being a success.

Right now all that's been show is some test footage which went over well at Comicon, but hasn't made it's way on line. Ant-Man using his size changing powers to infiltrate a facility and sneak past guards.

For the longest time I thought Buffy The Vampire Slayer was the dumbest thing ever because of the name and only the name because I never actually watched.  Finally saw an episode and to this day think its one of the best shows ever made.
I'm never juding anything by its name again.

Oh and Love the Tick.  Lets bring it back!!!

The way you keep saying your part of the "stupid public" makes me think you really are :P
Also you are making it 100% clear that you made up your mind it was stupid before you even heard of it.

If we can have hit movies based on toylines (Transformers) and theme park rides (Pirates of the Caribbean) I think Ant-Man has a chance. I'm not saying it isn't risky or that it will be easy, but I belive it's doable.

We're talking about comic book based movies here. In a universe where someone who can communicate with squirrels is able to take down one of the most dangerous super villains a guy who can shrink and grow in size just doesn't seem so insane to me.

Well, I make no claim to intelligence Image IPB

But what I'm trying to point out is, while people into comics - which most of you are, to one extent or another - knows who this guy is, people NOT into comics (like me) have never heard of this guy.  The name sounds . .I won't say dumb, but not the most exciting.  The powers seem to be nice for a comic, but really, comic relief, not superhero.

This movie has to first overcome the "Ant-man? Who?" factor, then the "Ant-Man?  Seriously?" factor.  And that's a lot of selling before we even get to the "Is the movie any good?" question.

Agreed. It's tricky.  They could always look at calling it Tales to Astonish, the comic series the character premired in.

I think the smart thing to do would not even have a movie all about him. Put him in Avengers 2 or give him small bit parts building up to it in Ironman 3 and Thor 2 and any other movie they plan on building into this. Hell if their not afraid to do Ant-man lets have Black Panther, Luke Cage. Maybe they can do Ultor / Vision storyline. They can even go so far as bringing in Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. If they do that than the possibilities can branch beyond that. Its no secret that Spiderman and X-men are kept seperate because of legal issues but imagine the possibilities!
I would love to see something like the Civil War storyline or the Secret War on the big screen (though those might be too big for such a project)

It's the classic red and black, but a more armored design.

How do you sell a film called "Ant-man" to the stupid everyday movie going audience?

Well you start by not calling them stupid.

Always a good start.

So I can't call the idiots who allowed Bay to make his Transformers movies as such?

You can do whatever you want.  Freedom of speech is great isn't it?  I'm just sayain that if your want to talk people into seeing your movie you don't insult them.  Thats a sure way to talk them out of it.  You asked and thats the first step is don't call people stupid.  And no I don't think people who liked Transformers are idiots.  I don't even think Twilight fans are idiots.  My dad watches rewatches and watches again Everybody Loves Raymond.  He's seen every episode several times yet he still laughs.   Its not that funny a show but he still loves it.  Still smart as all hell.

Not like I'd do that to sell a movie I made, But half the stuff I've made are Indie films that don't have Mass apeal.
but yeah Point taken.

Unless Chris Nolan directs it.. NO

chris nolan is becoming over rated now. the man is a great director but he shouldnt be named to do every comic movie

and believe e ant man isnt what i would call realisim compared to what batman is

they already have a director for antman and he shot test footage a few years ago and debuted it at sdcc this year

it was a rough shot but people stated it looked good
