By the massive number of people who say they would love Cullen as a companion (and not to mention, LI), like myself, they'd be stupid not to include him. Plus he would suit the context of the situation, being a templar companion while the game will seemingly be caught up in the mage vs templar war almost entirely.

By "massive number of people", you mean a bunch of fangirls on the Cullen fan thread?

I mean I like the guy, had a bit of a mancrush on him but I wouldn't say a "massive number" of people would like Cullen. Most people seem to want Morrigan.

well from known characters Cullen. he should be a companion for those who side with the templars in the mage-templar war

Isabela, Merill, Varic, Morrigan, Oghren...unfortunately since they were all companions in the previous games we probably wont have them as companions in DA3

I would really, really like to see Cullen.
For starters, I  think it would be a pretty good idea for him to be a companion - first
off, in none of the games, he dies. Plus I think including him can be
nice for a reference towards the Warden: he could make a reference on
how the Warden handled the Circle. He could also make a reference that,
of the Warden was a mage, about the person - like how they where the
first mage they watched go through a harrowing, and if the Warden was
female, it can be hinted that he had feelings for one of the mages
there. All in all, I would love to see Cullen: I'd also love to have him as a love interest.

I would also like to see Nathaniel Howe (preferably love interest, please!), though with Nathaniel, he could have died in Awakening... I mean,  I understand they retconned that with Anders, but I really don't want
there to be a lot of retconning, otherwise it gets to be too ridicious.

I would also love to see other characters like Jowan make an apperence; I was pretty sad to find out that Jowan was  originally planned as a permanent companion, but never made it to the  final cut. Like Cullen, if Jowan was to be implamented, I think he could also be used for a few off references with the Warden: like Cullen, he could have more if the Warden was a mage, but both characters meet the  Warden regardless. Like Nathaniel, I think Jowan can die, but his retcon would be... not quite as crazy as a dead-Nathaiel-coming-back, if that makes sense?
I wouldn't mind Jowan being a love interest, though I think he could have some issues with love - considering Lily
was taken away and everything... then again, he was only with her for a
few months, and assuming this is after DA2... there is atleast like, ten
year gape since then, so... maybe probably not ahaha.

I also really, really, REALLY want Varric to make a return and be a love interest. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/love.png[/smilie]
Seriously, Varric was my favorite companion in DA2, and when I heard about him, I really wanted him to be a love interest - he was, quite honestly, the only one I  really wanted to romance. Needless to say, I was really, really
disapointed when it turned out Varric wasn't a LI - and I was made even
sadder by the fact he was planned to be one, but it was cut. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/crying.png[/smilie] Even
if Varric doesn't make a comeback though, I really, really want a nice,
suave romance with a sexy dwarf. Okay. Okay. Dwarven romance. Please,
please?

Also, Bevin! He's a young boy involved with Redcliff's plotline. One of his epilouges says that, if you give his
grandfather's item back, he becomes an explorer. Again, another one of
those "dependent" things, though who is to say he couldn't have been
inspired by the Warden's actions? And I don't believe Bevin is confirmed
as dead if you uhm, do questionable things in Redcliff, so it doesn't really rule him out, right?

I think it might be really neat to have Lia to appear! For anyone who doesn't know, she is a elven girl involved with
one of the quests of DA2 - she has two different fates depending on your
actions, though even with the one that would be a bit... harder for her
to become an adventure, it isn't impossible.

Another young, little elven girl that comes to mind is Iona's daughter, Amethyne. For those who are wondering who Iona is, she is the elven  lady-in-waiting of Lady Landra, one of the characters invovled with the
Human Noble origin. You can find Amethyne wondering where her mother is,
and I think this would be a pretty good start for her to train herself
in combat, and try to find her mother: Obviousily we know what happend to Iona, but Amethyne could turn out to be quite the stubborn little spitfire [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie]

I also wouldn't mind seeing Dagna again. However, with Dagna... it might be harder for her to be a companion -
she was part of the Smith caste, but we're never even any details if she
does have any combat poweress. Regardless, even when she is one of
those "variable" characters, even if the Warden never does her quest...
well, who is to say that no one eventually comes back to her about word
from the Circle?

Also, this is another one that's... also semi-dependant on the Warden's actions, but does anyone remember the
begging mother, Zerlinda, trying to get coin for her sick baby
in Dust
Town
? Well, you can choose to help her, and she promises to
send her  son to the surface to become a Grey Warden. Now,  this is very, very
dependant on exactly when DA3 takes place (since by the end of DA2, he's
probably about... eh, 10 or 11, maybe 12 at the most?), but even
without the Warden's involvement, it's possible Zerlinda's family might
have taken her back and accepted her son... and maybe he decided to go
run off on his own? I could see this making a pretty cool character,
maybe even a bit of "brofist" character too, who knows!

I would also really like to see Maraas, one of the kossith you meet in DA2, as a companion.

I would also love to have Regalyan D'Marcall; if he appears though, I'd like him to be a LI... though if Cassandra is
a companion, they'd have to do something to uhm... make it so he
doesn't have feelings for her. I'm pretty sure Cass probably friendzoned
him, but it would suck romancing him with him still having a crush on
her.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing Tallis and Cassandra.

However, I really don't want anything to do with the Origins companions, besides
maybe Oghren, Sten, and the Dog. I'd be fine with Leliana being a
temporary companion or something, but that's it.
I also DO NOT want anything with the Old God Baby. Just... no, no, no.

Anyways that's pretty much my list, ahaha. xD

Oh, but I would love to have a Tevinter Mage and a female Kossith as companions, though!

New characters, I like cassandra and talis but, Idk if already knowing about your party members, Anders was a big let down. I had all these expectations. Alistair would be cool though, if they did it right, he was my main bro.

Cassandra, Tallis, and Bethany from DA2, Sigrun from DAO, those are the ones I'd like as actual companions/LIs. The rest, Morrigan, Leliana, Flemeth, Varric, Isabella, Merrill, I'd rather see them more involved in the story itself than as actual teammates, Id prefer the rest to be all new. I'd like the main character to be Morrigan's child, so naturally I'd want her to play a huge role in the storyline, along with Leliana and Flemeth of course. And it would be nice if Queen Anora could show up in some small way, that'd be cool.

the only character i'd like to see resurface is Finn. i couldn't get enough geek if i tried to, and no other companion in the DAverse has even come close to his level of perfection in this regard.

or they could try to make a new character that out-geeks him. i'm not picky.

All new companions, for the most part! Varric and Cullen could be companions, and maybe Arianne and Finn from Witch hunt, but that`s about it. Cassandra, Leliana, Morrigan and Alistair should have important roles, but not as companions. By the way I think there were too many cameos in DA2. Most of them didn`t make any sense. The cameos in DA3 should have an impact, not just popping up to say "Hi, i was in DAO. Remeber me?? I have lost

As for new characters, i would like:

- Templar (a must if Cullen is not a companion)
- Tevinter mage
- Nevarran dragon hunter/mercenary
- Female Kossith
- Assassin. A REAL assassin, not "latino lover - assassin (Zevran) " or "I  actually just want my old teddybear back- assassin (Nathaniel Howe)
- Female city elf apostate
- Male daelish archer
- Grey warden companion
- Dragonling that grows during the game
- Dwarf legion of the dead
- Seeker
