I am confused about the +X% element damage stats of certain staves in DAO, such as the Enchanter's Staff. It boasts + 5% cold, + 5% electricity, and +5% fire damage in the description. But actually when using it, the damge on the enemies only show up as cold damage, which can be seen from the fact that the damage dealt numbers appear blue in color. It is stated in the Wiki that every staff has a damage type, that of the Enchanter's staff being cold. So, I was wondering what is the +5% electricity and fire damage in the description referring to? There are many other staves that has multiple element modifiers as well such as the Malign staff, Staff of the Magister Lord and so on.
Elemental Damage modifier of Staves?

Aren't the +% damage mods supposed to affect your spell/elemental damage? If the staff only did cold damage on its shots, the +5% cold damage applies to the staff's shots, but the +5% electricity/fire damage will apply to your fireball/shock/etc spells, but it will not affect your staff's shots as it only does cold damage.

I guess the damage done by spells depends only on spellpower. eg. Winter's Grasp cold damage = 36 + 0.36SP

The wiki says these +% elemental damage mods affect spells. IIRC, they're capped at like 30%? in origins and 50% in awakenings.
They also affect anything that does that element's damage.

Thanks a lot, I've finally got it. Now I finally understand the usefulness of the Elemantalist's grasp for a primal caster.
The toolset wiki explains it nice:

I was confused because the individual spell wikis just showed the basic stripped down formula and there was no mention whatsoever about the effect of elemental damage modifiers.
Thanks again.
