In DA3 there should be capes, and they should be fully costumiziable when it comes to colors, icons, stripes, matrix and stuff like that.

There should be different kinds of capes. Long, short, ripped, tattered, hooded, non hooded, narrow, wide and so on. These things should not be costumiziable. But when you find or buy a certain type of cape - say a long, tattered narrow, non hooded cape, then it should be up to the player if she/he/it likes the default look of it, or wants to costumize it with another color, a different matrix, or maybe add an icon to it.

The icons could be stuff like a star(s), different kinds of; birds, animals, fish, insects and dragons, different kinds of structures; like a castle, a well, a tower and stuff like that.

The player should also be able to put the capes on the companions. So if a player wants to make a band of heroes where they all wear the same type of cape, with the same colors and icons, then he/she/it could do that.

Do it. B)

Capes, cloaks, and robes can be amazingly cool if they're done right and actually flow like fabric should (or at least look cool). As it is, they rarely do. In fact, I hate the robes in DA, so if they're using the same engine, I will continue to pray for more mage pants. We have a group! http://social.bioware.com/group/3961/

If the engine for DA3 has cloth physics like "Alice: Madness Returns", I support it. But otherwise - Maker, no!

Well of course. The engine should be able to make it look like fabric. If the engine can't do that, then get a engine that can.

RPG's I have played with capes AND cloaks:
  • Neverwinter Nights
  • Two Worlds II
  • Dragon's Dogma
Out of them all I think Two Worlds II did them best. Two Worlds II had more capes with all sorts of designs on them and they could be dyed (as could armor). Cloaks and capes would move as well and looked really well done. Capes and cloaks in Neverwinter Nights moved too but didn't have the physics of capes in Two Worlds II (naturally since NWN came out in 2002). Capes and cloaks in Dragon's Dogma for the most part were done really well but some of the longer cloaks were a bit stiff at the top and only seemed to move at the bottom.

I hope Dragon Age 3 contains cloaks or capes because they look so good when done right. I mean even Dragon Age 2 had some long flowing equipment. Look at the mage's champion set where the loose clothing on the back moved.

Best armor design in the game IMO. Shame it was basically end game armor.

I foresee tons of "why is my weapon going through my cape?!" threads.

I heartily support capes and cloaks and similar things being in DA3. Sometimes you have a set of armour and you just think, a cape would really finish off this thing. I'd also like to be able to put heraldry on shields again like in Awakening.

Eh, I'd prefer they fix smaller problems before they bring new ones in.

Like the legendary floating sword/staff with no scabbards. I'm not a big fan of capes though. I find them to always look goofy on any character in any game.

In an aesthetic way capes look cool, in actual combat in a practical sense I would pass unless the cape came loose easily when grabbed. Otherwise it gives the enemy something to grab to drag the character down or prevent escape

It's a technical nightmare. Either they lie flat the entire game to prevent clipping (which would draw hate comments stating it looks totally unrealistic fighting and running with a wooden plank on your back) or it would move and result in tons of clipping in armor, weapons and aces (which would draw hate comments stating it looks totally unrealistic, material phasing through solid objects).

It wasn't possible in DA2 to prevent clipping and cut scene issues, where there was next to no armor/weapon options outside of Hawke. Nothing at all tells me it would be possible to pull off something as demanding as a cloak with their current engine.

YES YES YES YES YES! I really REALLY want a cape! Capes are awesome! If Two Worlds 2 can do it DA3 can.

I would like to see bowstrings and scabbards first. And I think they are easier to implement well as capes or cloaks are.

I agree, capes and cloaks! Dragon's Dogma really spoilt me for those, and I don't understand why we can't have them in DA too. Pictures don't give a very good idea, but nevermind.

No capes darling...

I SAID NO CAPES!

*Giggles* Ahem.. In all seriousness. I'm not a huge cape fan, but if other people want them, and Bioware are capable of doing them, then why not?

Just keep clear of aeroplanes.

I would like to see bowstrings and scabbards first.

This should definitely be fixed though. Non-existent bowstrings bother me, a lot.

Everyone knows that a cape is useless if it doesn't cover your face.

There is a story behind this cape. It is from Plan 9 From Outer Space. The actor who played that character died, so he had to be replaced by a new one. To cover up they hid his face by a cape. Problem was that one was nearly twice as long as the other. ;)

Capes, cloaks and hair that moves naturally and doesn't just sit there like a piece of plastic would be great. So would bowstrings and horses.

Yeah, DA3 probably won't have any of that.

I demand David Gaider read some military history books for DA3 if he is going to try and portray a war. Capes are irrelevant.
