I was thinking, since star fighter games (like SW: Rogue Squadron) seems to be rarer than a Giant Panda, maybe the mass effect universe could provide a new one?
The setting I can't quite make my mind up about: a pick n' mix of all previous wars in seperate story Arcs (First Contact War, Geth Rebellion, Rachni Wars, Skylllian Verge) to add to the history of Mass Effect without having to walk around the egg shells that is the post ME-3 plot; or during/after the Reaper Invasion so as to have some lineraity and a single story. Although it seems unlikely that a single pilot would survive more than one direct combat encounter with the Reapers, Joker stands as an exception (sort of), why not someone else.
Thoughts?
Mass Effect - Star Fighter Games?

Actually that sounds like a damn good idea. A console flight-sim can be a fantastic product without being too simple - Il-2 Sturmovik proved that.
Flying around in space is a tricky thing to get right, but add in ground support/strikes plus 'copter-esque scraps within the atmosphere and you have an IP with a lot of variety, and a shedload of genuinely impressive vistas and events.
If the developer was feeling ambitious, they could try to weave a narrative throughout the game as well. Though *that* idea makes me think of Ace Combat, and thus fills me with cold dread and terror...

Are we talking about fun but fairly superficial (like Rogue Squadron was) or a really good more in-depth game, of which TIE Fighter was one of the best? I'd like the latter (it had more storyline too).

Following quality of the Mass Effect brand, the latter would be best.

Just as long as the controls don't consist entirely of waving your hands in front of meaningless orange blobs. What Joker had to do never looked terribly exciting

What's that you say, Reorte? An idea for a game? Plus waving your hands around? Hey presto! A Kinect only Mass Effect space-combat game is born! ;-)
Aside from that: I wouldn't mind seeing the IP branch out. There's no reason why it can't extend to being an FPS or a flight-sim.

I want a sandbox space sim, but I don't expect someone would make it.However I'm still hoping someone will make a conversion mod. I've been searching and all I found is a Normandy SR-2 mod for X3: Terran Conflict ().
Edit: I just found a mod for Battlefront 2, but so far I don't see any space combat. It looks great though.
