Listen, OP. You shouldnot listen to those telling you to choose damage. Here's the deal... You should have at least one infiltrator specced for duration. On Platinum, people will expect you to have duration. They will be pissed if they die on objective waves because the infiltrator couldn't get those switches.
If you're on gold, damage is a bit more acceptable, but not preferable.
Everybody wants to do more damage, but 10% is not as noticable as an ability to cloak and run to the other side of the map. And if you have bonus power, you can hit em hard and run. (This is a must for the Shadow on Gold.) I specced for damage, but soon realized how unacceptable this was on Platinum.
Do not listen to those telling you to choose damage.
I still say that due to shield gate, if you're running a sniper you're likely better off taking duration. Shotgun, take damage.
Fixed. I meant 40%. Although, when you consider that the boost is for cloak only, there are only certain shotguns, like the Claymore, that would see much benefit from that.
Experienced Gold/Plat players... is duration or damage best for Infiltrators?

No, I wasn't refering to the percentage of damage, I was refering to all of your other claims. But from the way you act in this thread I'm almost sure you're trolling OP with bad and/or false advice.
No, I don't play platinum, I don't even play the game at all, I just came in here to give my advice on something that I know absolutely nothing about. What do you think Einstein?

The thing is - if you're with a team on Gold that has to rely on an Infiltrator to do the objectives, you're going to be in trouble anyway. Gold matches are easily manageable without an Infiltrator on the team at all, so you should definitely go with the setup you feel most comfortable with.
Besides, and I think this is something some people in this thread are forgetting, PUGs often don't take advantage of the fact that you can do the objectives on your own/revive team mates more easily. I always speak up if I use the Shadow and tell the team to focus on the enemy while I do the objective. More than half the time, there will be at least one person tagging along anyway and getting me killed by drawing enemy fire/grenades.

So, I'm getting ready to brave some gold matches (I've played a few farming matches, but nothing serious so far). My favorite, most reliable character is the SI w/ Valiant V . Question is, what is more valuable to a gold team; damage or duration (for hacks and revives)? I'm not worried about being at the top of the scoreboard; I just want to have a useful character. Right now, I have him spec'd for duration, with energy drain maxed for damage (he strips shields pretty effectively), and he seems to be doing plenty of damage on silver. Opinions?
Going to BSN for advice? Danger must be your middle name. Don't listen to any of the trolls, elitists, or uninformed ≤ 99.9% of posters.
P.S. The Idea you can't cap objectives and revive without duration is ludicrous. By that logic you can't revive or finish a 4 device objective without a infiltrator not true.
Livin' dangerously; that's me! I take it all with a grain of saltThere are a lot of people out there with experience playing gold/plat, and they know what they expect from a teammate. Always good to get a feel for that before you jump in. Doesn't mean I'm going to completely change the way I do things, I just don't want to be too big of a burden while learning.
As for your P.S., that is the center of the arguement (discussion? lol)... obviously, plenty of people play the other 5 classes without any cloak at all (which is why I think all the whining about the cloak being nerfed was a little much). That being said, the duration may not be necessary, but it could still be quite beneficial. Adepts could spec for damage instead of BE; certainly BE is not necessary, but it's certainly beneficial.
Basically you can play what is comfortable for you play style. Duration may be more beneficial as you transition to gold be able to stay in cloak longer. Also using shotguns (Claymore, Reegar, and Pirahna) instead of a sniper (valiant) might help they are vastly superior in terms of gold/platinum performance. That is also a issue with playstyle if you don't feel comfortble with shotguns stick with your sniper. I believe damage is the way to go on most infiltrators because often you are breaking cloak quickly attacking the enemy.
Basically there are multiple ways for you to spec it most of which depend on your playstyle and experience on gold/platinum. As you progress you can try other builds and evolve.

You don't need a 40% boost on 1/5 of your shots to do that. Honestly, you don't even need cloak for that. Especially with PM. But even if you can take an Atlas down a little faster, how is that more useful? If you have another infiltrator or even a SE, sure. But I've seen squads wiped because of a poorly specced Infiltrator way too often. If you can coordinate with friends, that MIGHT be different, but on Platinum...
Let me put it this way. How many objective rounds do you want to risk losing in order to cause more damage?

I say you should definitely go with duration for now. It will allow you to adjust yourself and give you more time to make decisions before engaging, giving you more room for mistakes.

In all seriousness .I only go with the duration on the N7 Shadow because ill just spam electric slash from a distance and go for sword damage just in case anyone gets close and i usually have a strength enhancer equipped also. Any other infiltrator is strictly damage because IMO they have no other usefullness without it.

Please just stop posting, please! You don't even need an infiltrator in the team to do gold or platinum, gold feels like bronze anyway and is way to easy with all classes once you get used to it. Platinum is not hard at all unless there's a bunch of really bad players playing together.

Spoken like somebody who has caused their squad to get wiped many times. You're completely ignorant if you think every squad setup can successfully complete objective rounds on Platinum without somebody that either cloak or divert damage.

1/5th? Do you even honestly know how TC works?
The cloak itself lasts for 1 second, and the damage bonus applies for 1.5 seconds after that.
You can get 5/8 of your shots off before your damage bonus wears off.

The shield gate is what you want to think about dealing with in Gold. (Set aside the people who are telling you how to play on Platinum, because you're not going there yet.)tonilynn17 wrote...

The question on the SI is whether you need that extra 40% damage to get through an enemy's shields with Energy Drain--and you almost certainly will, unless you have very good gear and want to rely on equipping +power damage consumables.
Now, Energy Drain plus a cloaked Valiant shot to the body will drop the shields of any infantry enemy in almost any SI spec, and the Valiant has a nice high rate of fire. So if you are very confident that you can kill an unshielded enemy with the other two rounds in your magazine--meaning you're very consistent with headshots--then Duration is probably the better pick. If you're not consistent with headshots, or you prefer the more conservative/overkill route, you want Damage.
Personally, I run my SI with a Black Widow and the Damage evolution.

Good players can, bad payers can't. It's the skill of the players that matters. And as he said, if you can't do it then the problem is you and nothing else.

And bad players aren't common at all...uh huh. Let's reverse this. Let's say you're in a squad of bad players. Can a duration specced Infiltrator save the day? The answer is yes. A damage specced Infiltrator won't be able to save a squad of crappy players on objective rounds. Yes, it can carry them through the non-objective waves, and maybe you'll get lucky on objectives, but I don't see why you'd risk it with randoms. And it's not like you can't do all that stuff without the 40% damage boost in cloak.

Damage. Kill things a lot faster, what's not to like? Less enemies, less pressure on the team. This whole "it only helps you and doesn't benefit the team" nonsense is just perpetrated bull**** coming from the butthurt/nerfer crowd.

I did that today actually, had my GI for a change while trying out the Saber on him. Full damage, no fitness, no equipment or gear for extra shields (only damage). Did gold and giant against Cerberus, my teammates all died during the first 20-30 seconds of every wave leaving me to solo basically a whole match.
Got one objective that was the escort where I had to go through the center of the map (and as you know, you can't use cloak because the drone won't move) and the other objectives were device activation and a pizza delivery.
If I can solo gold with any class and not put points in duration, I sure as hell can "carry" a bad team on gold with the same build.
