The BSN is not a good place to start interesting topics, these days. If you start something nice, funny or even deep, but somewhere in your post the Geth, EDI or the Reapers are mentioned, chances are that 80% of the comments you'll get will be from angry players who chose Destroy and want everyone to know that in their playthough EDI died an horrible and painful death.

Now, what does that say about gamers as a whole? My answer to this question is simple: nothing that we didnt' already know. Gamers have a straight-forward mind, are often incline to violence, and take everything at face value. Oh, sure, they'll love the s*** out of a man in a red coat behaving like a 13 years old while fighting Space Demons, but please don't try to send them a message that isn't "kill the evil basterds".

Gamers knows only one thing: hate. To make a succesful game you just have to give them someone to hate and someone they can relate with, i.e. someone who's the best dude in the Universe because that's how they want to feel when they play a videogame.

I used to love videogames, and I really think that in their own way, games like Mass Effect 3, Heavy Rain and even Skyrim (from a gameplay perspective) are trying to elevate their genre. But guess what? Gamers are not ready. They don't want to understand the psychological deep of a character, they' don't want to question themselves about morality or what does it takes to be alive. They want to f*** bad people up because that's justified violence, glorified hate.

Gamers never creates. They Destroy.

No. It says that few people trust the catalyst with good reason.

I hate Destroy - it kills off EDI and it undermines everything I tried to build between the Geth and Quarians for two games. It's also a lame red explosion, and it feels kinda bleak.

But Control is just bananas, and I didn't fight Reapers for 3 games just to become one.

Synthesis is a rale happy ending, all Disney and good times. Green is my favourite color. So nice. But my stomach gets all pinchy when I pick it. My brain says 'aw yeah, happy ending' but my stomach says 'what the f*** have you done? This feels so wrong bro'

Conclusion: They all suck. Destroy just sucks in a way that lets you sleep at night.

Eh, just because they pick destroy doesn't mean they don't ponder, consider, and do a bit of soul-searching over the other options on scientific and philosophical levels. Assuming they don't is woefully inaccurate.

EDI is my favorite character in ME3. And I make peace between the geth and quarians whenever I can. I don't hate any of the characters in the game, really. They're all cool in their own ways.

I still choose Destroy. I will not be emotionally manipulated into making the wrong choice.

Exactely this.

I've done more pondering about picking Destroy than anything else I've ever done in a videogame. While I think some of this stems from bad presentation, it's ability to keep you asking question is noteworthy.

The first time I finished this game I choose control.

That wasn't intentional. All my fun and enthusiasm had been declining ever since I jumped through the beam. Once I met the Catalyst it was non existent.

Barely paying attention out of disinterest I wasn't certain which thing did what. So I walked up to the control one on the left hoping it would tell me. Instead it just said "panel" (I think) and then rendered me unable to walk away so I had to do it.

I reloaded to see what destroy and Synthesis did... and was disappointed again when I discovered it was the same thing in a different color.

I didn't feel any rage or hate towards the Reapers (in fact I think as villains go they're pretty bland and only made worse through the Catalyst's attempt at an explanation) and I can't honestly tell you which ending I would have picked first time over if I had a real choice...

But replaying with the EC it's not hard at all to see why everyone prefers destroy and it's not because "gamers are hate-filled." if anything it's the opposite.

The Reapers have killed literally trillions of innocent people in horrible, cruel ways. Now they are destroying the Galaxy and brutalizing everyone. They have destroyed every homeworld apart from Palaven and every race has suffered billions of causalities.

Your options are:

Merge yourselves with them in a way which is badly presented, raises many questions and keeps them all alive.
Get killed by them.
Create a new AI which makes them even smarter and ensures their survival.
Or Destroy them.

Most people pick #4 because the others are idiotic.

I think that you are assuming too much. I know for a fact that plenty of people chose Destroy because it was the lesser evil, at least in their minds, not because they get excited by the thought of violence.

My probelm withthe destory ending is that it does not have enough emotional impact. Control does. What happen is synthesis is obvious and is open enough for the player to speculate...But not one mention of EDI  and the geth in destroy? WTH.

Control is a rewrite of their programing.

It's that way to downplay it.

I would have liked a scene of the Geth saluting before the red wave hit them. I think that would have been really moving. Or a scene of EDI comforting Joker before she shuts down.

What an interesting perspective. The games are great and intelligent, but the gamers are all f'd up. Never heard that one before. You sure you don't work in gaming journalism?

destroy = as little space magic as possible

I never had ambitions of "making the world a better place for everyone" like Miss World contestant, I just wanted everything to be normal again.

I disagree with the OP. You can't really generalize Destroyers as face-value close-minded knuckleheads. There's plenty of reasons why people would pick any choice, let alone Destroy. Some go with the IT (which certainly ain't face-value), some simply distrust the catalyst, some don't want the reapers around anymore, some are accomplishing what they set out to do for 2.9 games, etc. The list can go on for a while.

Oh, also I'm pretty sure that the people who created this series are gamers. I'm positive that gamers create games.

Yeah, that's pretty f***ed up, one of my bigger problems with that particular ending.
