Eh, just because they pick destroy doesn't mean they don't ponder, consider, and do a bit of soul-searching over the other options on scientific and philosophical levels. Assuming they don't is woefully inaccurate.

Sounds like a lot of projection going on in the OP. And "Gamers knows only one thing: hate" might be one of the most ignorant things I've read here on the BSN ... and THAT is saying something

I picked Destroy because the Reapers have been killing billions upon trillions of lives for thousands and thousands of years. I don't want to make friends, I want a solution in which they are gone forever. EDI and the Geth are machines, they can be rebuilt ... apparently they don't become truly alive unless you hop in the happy green beam anyways, so no real loss there, I guess. EDI herself said she was willing to die to kill the Reapers, so I just took her at her word

Since you have to unlock characters... nothing. Destroyer is one of the 2 N7 characters I've unlocked, and the only N7 character my wife unlocked. Maybe they're just more common to unlock than the other classes.

When the narrative actually works, I'll create the crap out of something. I turned the Mojave Desert into my own independent nation, for instance.

I will not replace the Reaper's faulty operating system with another AI that thinks it's me. I will not go full bat**** for some artsy utopia ending. I will not leave it to some other cycle to kill the Robot-Devil. Destroy really is the only conceivable option for the majority of Shepards.

It seems like most Destroyers actually pick the ending for four reasons:

1.) They distrust the Catalyst (Though not apparently about what shooting the pipe will do). shooting the pipe killing the Reapers. A number of players have managed to convince themselves that only Reapers will die in this ending, despite all evidence.

2.) They're afraid of possible consequences of the other endings.

3.) Meta reasons (complaining that the other endings aren't realistic).

4.) Closest to what the OP was suggesting: a sense of vengeance, an unwillingness to alter the plan even when presented with new information, lack of caring about synthetics, or a hatred of Reapers so intense it overrides all other concerns.

Small correction above.

And yes, the OP does seem to be right for a certain percentage. But not enough to warrant making a big deal out of this.

Uhhhhhh what posts have you been reading? Because the majority of people I've seen here liked EDI, in fact that (+ the Geth) was why most people were pissed about Destroy.

I'm afraid that creating a compendium of all the people that were saying that on these boards is not worth it, but I can assure you that I created this topic out of frustration of reading Destroyer's comments everywhere stating that they "tostated the sex bot!" or "destroyed the toasters!" inside every single thread that was about EDI or the Geth.

that sounds like joking or trolling to me. i wouldn't take it so seriously.

Also, after everything the reapers have done, being "violent" or "hateful" towards them seems perfectly understandable.

I would have liked the destroy scene with the geth prime, as the red wave goes on earth. He tries to reach his troops via radio, and finds out they're dead. And then he says "Shepard commander; Why?", and then the wave hits, and he dies. Probably would have created an emotional impact which would force players to chose other endings. The geth even allied themselves with the reapers in order to avoid extinction. This means for me they don't want to die. I won't kill them, nor EDI, a true friend. Killing an entire rave just to kill an other. Shepard commander fights for the people, losing an entire race doesn't worth it - at least for my paragon Shepard. Synthesis felt okay with the rainbows. People hate synthesis, because it was not suggested as a solution ever before, so it comes from nothing, and ethically incorrect. They think that if they do something bad, the consequences can't be good, and the synthesis portrayed as extremely good creates a strange feeling. Control is okay in my opinion. The reapers are gone, their bodies are used for the greater good, by Shepard himself. As much as you trust Shepard, you should trust control ending aswell.

Op, you can't just assume that because someone picks and ending you don't like that they have no philosophical depth to them. That is a HUGE generalization, and it is rather closed minded. Anyone that doesn't share your opinion automatically isn't ready to think on a deeper level? I am about to finish a master's in philosophy, and I chose destroy.

After thinking long, hard, and very deeply about it, I came to the decision that this was the hard but necessary choice. It is the only choice that absolutely guarantees that the galaxy will not face the Reaper threat ever again. With Control, Shepard could misuse the Reapers one day (he even says that humanity is not ready for that kind of power when he speaks to TIM), and with Synthesis the Reapers are left unchecked and could eventually come up with another reason to start killing again. Destroy is the only way to absolutely guarantee that those two tragic situations won't end up happening. This comes at a huge sacrifice and a massive cost, but one of the philosophical points of the whole game is that freedom and peace cannot come without sacrifice.

For me, the bottom line is that the Reapers are too dangerous to be allowed to exist or allowed to come under anyone's control. The philosophical question is whether or not that is worth destroying all synthetics over. That is a matter of debate, but someone believing that it is worth destroying synthetics over just happens to have a philosophical difference of opinion with you that comes from a different philosophical perspective. It does not mean that they cannot think.

Well ill tell you why I picked destroy initially before the EC and if I couldn't metagame it, then I would pick it 10 out of 10 times.

The game itself draws a huge contrast between who believes in destroy vs control/synthesis
The game itself makes destroy out to be the #1 choice up to the last 10 min
The game makes a huge deal out of indoctrination and how those who believed in control/synth were under it

I understand your opinion and I find it reasonable. The exact same thoughts went through my head, but then I started to view things from the reapers' point of view. They kill people because they believe synthetics will eventually kill all organic life. Even if they're not right, they do their genocide because of this. They see synthesis option as a final solution. They believe that if synthetics will understand organics, they won't try to kill them, and if there are nanorobots attached to organics' DNA, they won't try to kill synthetics either. They are wrong. But if there are peacekeepers, like Shepard, and there is true peace between organics and synthetics (which may be hard, but if everything is done well, and everybody cooperates) the peace can be kept up, so the reapers won't find a reason to reap. But you are right, if there is a conflict between organics and synthetics, the reapers can be reactivated very easily. Let's hope since the galaxy's people is now very intelligent (not because the implants, but the usual way) and will have diplomatic solutions instead of wars.

Its not about hate, try to analyze the options a little deeper:

Control = Cerberus victory, thats what The Illusive Man always wanted
Synthesis = modified Reaper victory, all organics + geth turned into the same mix as the reapers (new synth-humans are practically husks, turians=maruders, krogans=brutes etc.
Destroy = all-organics victory
Refuse = traditional Reaper victory, the cycle continues

The reapers have been the main enemy all along the trilogy (although they were operating from the background in ME1 and ME2, openly main enemy in ME3 only). So why would you abandon fighting them at the end ?

By the evolution of games do you mean their depth of story and character? And you use Heavy Rain as an example...? No offense but I find it hard to believe that Heavy Rain should be used as a shining example of the depth possible in videogames.

Games are not books or movies, and I personally feel that any evolution of the depth of character/story in gaming needs to be a shift towards player-created content, all the way up until we eventually get to fully customizable virtual reality in the distant future.

The structure of games themselves prevents the type of successful experimentation you find in books and movies. It is still goal-based, still to a degree gamified. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Games can be games, movies can be movies, books can be books.

What games need to do is evolve in the areas where they thrive in comparison to other mediums; their interactivity. They will never be able to compete on a literary level with books. But books can never compete with a game's ability to allow the player to inject themselves into a world full of characters.

Anyway, whether or not you meant it the OP was very trollish and insulting. With a B.A. in philosophy I've spent more time than you pondering over issues precisely like the ones raised by the endings, and I still chose destroy. You come across as a very immature, close-minded person. Some people may have picked Destroy because they like to see things explode, but is this a worse reason than picking Control to be a galactic Overlord or picking Synthesis because you were trippin' exquisite balls on acid?

Good and bad reasons to pick any ending.

Paragon Shepards fought to save everyone, not to just kill. Geth don't become half organic, they will simply understand how organics work mentally, why they do what they do. Remember, the geth ran experiments on organics vie Extranet, so that they could understand their creators

I don't quite see how the italed bit comes in. Though it wouldn't be unreasonable for Shep to think that was a possible outcome, that isn't what we see in the epilogue.

What's that got to do with anything? Plenty of people regard Destroy as ultimately saving the most, the risks of Control going wrong and the discussed-to-death issues with Synthesis being considerations to a Paragon Shepard. Which is better, letting no-one die now but taking a big risk that everyone will or some dying now but no more risk?

in the words of mr. gutsy " kill them all and let god sort em out" and by them all i mean synthetics

damn this post for still going, love ppl bashing others for their choices, makes me feel all warm inside

because of the amount of love

oh and if you don't like it choose control, at least that way you will do the least amount of damage. sure nothing changes except the catalyst, and we all know how the catalyst was created and how that  turned out

but yeah , it is simple math, a billion geth die over there so trillions can live over here

Well, the former has been associated with Paragon choices throughout the game. Saving the rachni, curing the genophage,non-lethaly  disabling Feros colonists,  protecting AIs - the Paragon code demands that you give everyone a chance and damn the risks.

I'm going to add one more opinionated point...............With Green you have circuitry, which by all accounts needs input/code.

Now add to this, the need for some idiot to HACK into the servers, and create further havoc, on the ENTIRE GALAXY!!!

Destroy the option of further galactic conflict, NOW.
