In-game (meaning, while in combat), it's just a gameplay perk for people who beat the game and go into NG+.

When is Shepard ever canonized into being a biotic in-universe? I know Liara never mentions my Soldier Shepard having biotics (Unlike my Sentinel Shepard) during her conversation about her time capsule.

Probably the same reason she never talked about your sentinel's prowess with an Avenger.

Thanks for the non-answer. That was a nice waste of time.

Opinion? Simple: Shepard does not have canon.

Never encountered Kaidan making a comment about my non-biotic Shep being a biotic or having biotic potential. Neither does Chakwas when questioned about biotic implants. So I wouldn't assume this bug is present in all copies or playthroughs of ME 1.

Canon only refers to things that are true in everyone's game. Shepard becoming a Spectre in ME1 is canon; Shepard rescuing Liara from Therum is canon; confronting Saren on Virmire is canon; being resurrected in the Lazarus Project is canon. Shepard's class (and biotic capabilities), gender and background are not canon since those are adjustable variables.

Why do so many people not understand this?

Yup. Also, people confusing default story presets in non-imported Shepards with canon... ugh.

however, In everyones game Shepard can choose a Biotic Bonus Power.

So to use those Bonus powers he has to have some form of Biotic potential

No. Shepard is Krogan Human. That's canon.

Eh. If you want to have it as head canon that all of your Shepards are biotic, go nuts. However, you don't really have any grounds to claim that what *you* think is true is true of everyone else's Shepards. Male Shepard has the possibility to "become" bisexual or gay in ME3. Does that mean that all male Shepards are bisexual or gay just because the possibility is there? No, and if you tried to insist otherwise, you would have a war on your hands. A player's Shepard is how they choose to play them. If I wanted to play as a non-biotic Shepard, I can do so. If I wanted to play as a Shepard that is so biotic he farts singularities, I can also do so. Neither one is wrong because there is no canon for Shepard's class or biotic ability.

Trying to project one's own opinion onto everyone else under the guise of it being "fact" never ends well.

Like I said before, he has Biotic ability even if he chooses not to use it.

By your Logic if you never give your Shepard an SMG, it must mean he does not know how to carry an SMG.

I'm pretty sure with Amps, everyone has the potential or can have the potential to be a biotic.

I refuse to pick a biotic bonus power on non-biotic classes. Same with tech powers on non-tech classes. It ruins my immersion.

Guys, I am not saying that any particular class is Canon, Im simply saying Shepard having some degree of Biotic power is canon, even if he/she does not use that power.

And it's simply not true. Hell, bonus powers aren't even available on your original playthrough.

So if my Shepard was a solider (he was), he literally did not have access to biotic powers. Do you know why? Because he has 0 biotic potential. Zilch. Nada. And he doesn't take Red Sand either.

Actually it is true.  Kaiden will point out in ME1 that he spikes higher than most L3's, except you.  He says this regardless of what class you've taken.  You can be a Soldier and he'll say it, an Engineer and he'll say it, or an Infiltrator and he'll say it.  So not only is Shepard a biotic regardless of your class but he/she's actually quite powerful.  Choosing a non-biotic class just means Shepard's never trained those abilities to the point they're useable in combat, until/unless picking up a biotic bonus power.

Actually, I'm pretty sure this was confirmed to be a balls up on the part of the dev team, they left this line of dialogue in for non-biotic Sheps by accident.

Talk to Kaiden in the Huerta Memorial Hospital about what hes been doing and he'll tell you he's been working to train biotic soldiers and how human biotics are looked on as freaks by other humans. This dialogue changes depending on whether Shep is biotic or not.

Hmm weird they didn't fix that if so.  I got that conversation in every one of my 20 odd playthroughs of ME1 and I only ever played a biotic once for the achievements.

Will have to load up a few Kaidan VS Sheps and check out that dialogue.  Which conversation is it do you know?  The second (ok first technically) where he's talking but bed ridden or the third (second)when he's up and about (assuming his progress is the same as Ash).

I never play as a biotic Shep period, because it ruins my immersion.  It just bugs the hell out of me if I play as a biotic and Shep doesn't use biotics in cutscenes.  I prefer good old-fashioned guns anyways, with occasional tech powers.
