Yeah, I see what you're saying. I don't think it's unreasonable to dislike (or not be fond of) Ashley in any of the games, but I definitely think ME3 made it a lot harder to 'appreciate' the character. Even if I don't entirely agree with her, I understand her perspective on things in ME1, but that credibility was stretched or undermined a little in ME3.
Without ME1, I couldn't romance Ashley, period.
BW missed to include hook-up-content, same for Kaidan, while Garrus got a lot. Actually, given the fact he joins the crew in the first third of the game AND comes with a ton of great content, I wonder why you can't romance him in ME3 if you didn't in ME2. Because his buildup is AMAZING.
Ash on the other hand has only her hospital scenes. And you can miss them easily, so you have -no- connection to her if you never played ME1. That makes her a non-option for most players who started with ME2 or ME3.
Know what I mean?
Garrus got an amazing amount of great content, allowing the player to become a friend of Garrus.
Ashley got some good scenes but no content to hook up with her. The romance makes only sense if you romanced her in ME1.
Actually, ME3 is the reason why we're constantly losing Ash fans
i wouldnt say were "losing" ash fans. Mass effect is over. so is ashs story (for now).players have moved on. did some ppl jump ship after the coup standoff? sure. but plenty of people still love ash. from what i heard a crap load of ppl went to see kim and ralph at comic con not that long ago.
as far as garrus amazing content gose.id say he has alot, but its not really THAT great. i think hes a shell of what he was in ME1 and ME2. hes reduced to tag along sidekick for much of his content.
