I'm not too much into the idea of voiced protagonists, because:
1) There is always the fear that you won't like the voice you get, and is then stuck with it for the whole game. I never liked female Hawke's voice for example, so I always had to make a male.
2) Maybe it's just me, but I always feel awkward when I make a new character, with completely different personality, looks and skills, and yet he has the exact same voice, speaking the same lines (every now and then at least). Exactly the same voice, with another face. It made it always feel like the first Hawke I made was the "real" owner of that voice (since I associated that voice with his face), and any other Hawke with a different face suddenly felt fake.

Now I often hear arguments that it would likely cost too much to make several different voices for the protagonist to choose from (like in DA:O or even NWN, but there it was only small lines when you lockpicked a door or the like. But wouldn't it be possible to release new, alternative voiceovers for the protagonist as DLC then?

I know I would, if the cost wasn't too high:P What do you guys think?

EDIT: I know that there won't be any more DLCs for DA2, I am referring to DA3. But unfortnunately there isn't a DA3 forum yet, so...

I can see myself paying that extra, yup. Not sure how worthwhile it would be for BioWare, but at least I'm interested just like you.

I'd rather they put their resources into something more substantial, even for DLC. I'm not sure that such a DLC as you've suggested would even be able to work, but I'm no expert.

Such a venture would mostly just be a job for the voice over director and the new voice talent. Not sure how costy revoicing all the PC dialogue would be though and if it would likely be able to justify its DLC price, but if they'd be willing to take the risk I'd be willing to help make them feel the risk was worth it.

I had the same problem with the voice acting. But my problem was the male hawke voice acting that i found just awful, especially for a mage. I just ended up lowering the dialogue volume to zero. And i agree that even though the voice acting is good you will never shake the feeling that you are playing the exact same character the second playthrough as the first.

I could see myself buying a DLC offering this but not if i bought the original game for $60. Which, to be honest im not seeing myself doing any time soon again with a Bioware game.

As I recall, in Origins they had 4 or 5 voice choices for both male and female pcs. I don't know how much more expensive it would be to implement this feature, but it would sure allow your different pcs to be more unique. I hope DA3 has some more choices to offer, I'm not sure it would be worth it to do a DLC at this point.

Yeah, if they released DLC with extra voices I think I'd buy it.

I remember when I started my second playthrough of Mass Effect and my new character with her different looks and personality had the same voice... It completely threw me, I ended up replaying my first character again instead because it was just so disconcerting. I've adjusted now and now have multiple shepards, but they've never been as seperate from each other in my mind as my Dragon age chars, being able to have different voices would be great. This wasn't so much a thing for DA2, partly because I was prepared for it and partly because the tones vary it up.

I liked both the male and female voice actors in Dragon age 2 but to this day I can't stand to play a male shepard, I've tried multiple times but I've never been able to complete that first visit to the citadel with one. So I get why people would want a voice to replace one they dislike, but I'd mostly want it so my different characters could sound different.

Its a pretty good idea. I've been of the mindset that there should be two voices anyway, one for the 'good' and one for the 'bad' type characters, since as we see from SWTOR that can really make the voice work that much better. Having a generic, sort of neutral voice, but then adding two additional voices via DLC, one specializing in 'good' and one in 'bad' dialogue, would be something I'd go for.

I really like this idea for additional voices to choose from rather than one. Though it could be quite cost worthy to get it done after the game's released but I'd like to see something like this. Have voices of different accents, like french, german and austalian...GO FOR IT BIOWARE!
