Alright, so I got all achievements after leveling a 22 Warr, 25 Warr, 25 Rogue and a 25 Mage. Finally, but what now? Is there anything special for those who achieve 87 Achievements?

The new DLC does, indeed, have new achievments. That is, in fact, why it is not already out. This does, as you can tell, sort of ****** me off. I hope, by using lots of commas, my point is clear. Achievments, you see, are total fail.

Wow...sorry, but i laugh my freakin ars off whenver i hear about people caring this much about the freakin achievements. CoD4 MW, had the right idea in that achievements should help towards exp, but every other game has absolutely no incentive for them...yet some of us gamers still care so much about them...it puzzles me.

I think the achievements were great in this game. It allows the player to experience new paths to take in the storyline.

Your commas worked perfectly.

Too bad life doesn't have achievement points. And you should be able to wear the little emblems on your shirt to show them off. Like when you bang some hot chick, you get an emblem you can wear around.

Sadly, real life isn't like Dragon Age. Although it is nice not having to worry about darkspawn whenever I go into a cave.

As for achievements, they are pretty much useless like they are in World of Warcraft. But it does give something to strive for in subsequent playthrus after you've beaten the game once.

Borderlands had a nice Acheev/XP system.... but the problem was they had the same acheevs over and over again.

Achievements just serve as epeen or E-Boob (learned that one this afternoon right here) boosters. They serve little to no point. COD and Bordelnads had it right, you should get something from them.

I love people bashing on achievements as "pointless" while spending their free time posting on the forums for a single player video game.

GAMING is pointless if you don't find it enjoyable. There is no 'incentive' to minmax your character, beat the game, hit lvl 25, get better gear, etc. unless you find it fun. That is the incentive for achievements as well. People who don't play video games probably feel the same way about your playing that you feel about achievement lovers: "what a waste of time, why would anyone put so much work into doing something useless?" I suspect most of you would have the same response: it's not useless, it's fun.  Even if you feel that viewing new content is somehow a more legitimate reason to keep playing a game than others, why ever play the game on anything but Easy if not for an arbitrary challenge lacking any incentive beyond fun?

So yes, achievements are a totally artificial way to get people to play more. If they work for some people, so what? I make little effort in most games to unlock achievements but it's kinda neat to get one, and if I love every aspect of a game enough then I'll probably eventually try to visit, beat, unlock or otherwise complete every bit of challenge and content that exists in the game.

COD and Borderlands are multiplayer games.  They give rewards because the focus for powergamers is to gain an edge in PvP.  Adding rewards for achievements to DA:O would just make the game easier (since the AI opponents you fight would not be fighting to unlock the same rewards sooner), and achievement hunting mostly appeals to people who have already more or less mastered the game anyway so rewards for single player would be pointless.

I love achievements, I usually put handicaps on myself while playing, playing in strange ways, playing on hard difficulties etc, achievements is a different kind of challenge from that, but still a challenge.

It gives hints and ideas of new things to try out, and something to give fruit to your efforts.

No one but me myself cares about a % somewhere in a game or a badge or whatever, but it feels good when it says 100%. It's not because of that I play the game, but it's an extra thing to do when you have beaten the plot of the game already.

I really don't care much for achievements.. The only achievement that gave me any pleasure after achieving was the 75% Quests completed achievement. :) And I wonder what the use of those points are..

Simply sense of accomplishment. Not for any bragging rights but my personal satisfaction.

I still lack 4 and am not in any rush to get them, even if I never do it will be no big deal. But why not? They are achievable so why not get them for that little bit of extra "I beat this game yay" feeling.

That's not entirely true with DAO some achievements are "hey do this for replay value!!!" but lots help you build a great character with great damage or even perfect combat tactics.

I think achievements are a natural development for games in general. Usually when I complete a game I start competing with myself. For example if you complete DooM on the Ultra Violence difficulty, why not do it again on Nightmare?

Therefore I think achievements kinda take that tendency and puts in in the game for real. I like achievements, even if they're just for kicks.

agreed, if the points could be used to get something i'd say fair enough otherwise no real point in them.

I like to collect trophies/achievements when playing games, gives me a sence of accomplishment when I unlock one or all of them. The whole "people are playing games just for achievements and not for fun" is total crap. I find it fun to 'achievement hunt' and push me that one step further, it adds replay value for example games such as Uncharted, I would usually play once and then put it on my shelf or if rented take it back to the store, but because of the achievements I played the game 4 times and will probably play it again some time next year for fun one night.

I still buy games for the game and not for the achievements but the achievements are a little extra content. I would still buy DA:O, COD, Uncharted, Fallout3 etc even if they didn't have achievements because I love them games, I enjoy to play them.
Also even though I lie to collect achievements, I would never go mad and buy some trash such as "Hannah Montana:The video game" or something because that game probably sucks, not becuase its a kids game (I found playing Ice Age:3 fun, and intend to buy a PS1 classic, Ants life for the fun) but because its trash and I wouldn't have fun playing it.
There are games in which I rented or bought and I just really did not like and only have 2% of achievements. There are also games which have achievements that a stupidly hard or time consuming like getting to rank 10 on GTA:IV in which I have just gone "No, I'm not going to waste hours for just one achievement.

I dont get why people laugh at others for putting work into achieving crap in the game? Some people like it, some dont. For instance I did, first playthrough I sided with the mages. And I kept wondering, what would happen if I sided with the Templars? Then I sided with the elfs, and I kept wondering. What would happen if I sided with the werewolves?

I loved to experience more. I love to do more then just, go play the game. And get around 5-6 achievements in 1 run. It means you just rushed it through. If thats what you like, I'm cool with that. But for instance, I love to get achievements. I did my 3rd run within 17-20 hours. While my first two runs for achievements costed me around 50-55 hours gameplay each. Maybe the second was around 40-45. But non the less, it gives you challenge. And a reason to go back to a place like Orzammar. Right now, im doing my fourth playthrough. Instead of choosing a human and an eld. I picked a Dwarf, cause I wanna see what it changes. I only did all the Origin Stories for the achievement. Now I'm gonna do them all in a full playthrough

There's an easy way and a hard way.

Easy way: install a respec mod.

Hard way: Don't spend any talent points your Mage gets until you have 16 saved up. Save your game. Fill out one of the schools and get the achievement. Reload your game. You still have the achievement, and you can repeat for the rest of the schools. Then reload and spend your talent points more usefully.

Achievements, for me, are an incentive to play a game differently to how I would normally play, maximising my enjoyment, exploring as much as possible. I do not care for achievements that require excessive repetition however; I find them shallow, uninspiring, and a poor excuse for gameplay extension.
