NO: the crucible did NOT "create new options"

It's either a power source or an upgrade kit, not both.
I'm also curious where you're getting your information from, because nothing like that is ever stated in-game.

And it's obvious it is an upgrade being that the catalyst can do more things with the crucible attached then it did before. If it could do mass synthesis the way it did at the end of ME before, why didn't it do it?

well the prothean AI on Thessia did kind of explain it some, vaguely infering that it was an "idea" machine tinkered with over a long time by different harvested races. The catalyst said it was only a crude power supply, what led me to believe it was more than that. This admission occurs after it was 'plugged into' the catalyst via the citadel. The the Cat got new ideas that never occured to it before, a hint that they came from the crucible, not the citadel. So I believe the game does say its both a power converter of some kind and an upgrade kit, or hack device.
Also, it seems as if it took a long time tinkering with it to get it's programming level high enough to override the catalysts' core proggramming as it's use had been attempted many times without success. Coined by the admission that 'you are ready' to make a choice of synthesis or what ever that admission was for?

The burden of proof is on you, since you're the person making the claim that it "upgrades" the Catalyst.
Why in the hell would the Crucible developers create a device that upgrades their enemy?

to get it to do like it's told, the Cat is a little pain in the cosmic butt...and all the power in the MEU to back that pain up..

actually the Cat doesn't have 'ideas', it only has its core programmng, it's a very expensive computerized idiot savant. The crucible was never a weapon, the organics just called it one, cause they 'hoped' it would enable them to stop the cycle, by destruction if necessary. At that point, anything that ridded the MEU of the cycle was fair game. And any decision posed by the cruciblecitadelcat, as far as I could tell.

actually I think its' writers cramps myself. A computer wouldn't pose such an answer, they don't have an ego. Maybe enough fuzzy logic to incorporate a mimic? The notion is to infer that cat has a physical body, like shepard, it doesn't, so the quiz answer is incongruent, ie off the wall, coming from an ai/vi/sentient ai. Legion calls its physical self a platform as does Edi and they both call Shep a platform or unit seperate but "one" with it's core system/intellect. If the catalyst were to 'infer' it would be sapient, cause that implies imagination/guesswork. It would know what if, as well as what is. It doesn't, or the cycle would not continue..the game would suddenly stop.

"So are you an AI?"
"As much as you are JUST an animal."
ninja'd.
actually I think its' writers cramps myself.
Also, your missing he fact that legion is meany minds working as one. It sees it's platform irrelivent to it's self. Think of Legion's body to geth as us to cars.
Also imagination is just a way of thinking..It's not an idicator of life and free will.
