These are fictional settings. Afro-textured hair might not exist. Similarly, BioWare could conceivably make a game where all hair is afro-textured. I don't think anyone would have cause to complain about that, either.
Not that I'm saying the OP is complaining. He seems to be making a polite request for a feature he'd like. I can certainly support that.

It's not afro-textured hair. The cornrows could be afro-textured, I guess, but the rest is just plain straight hair.
This. I do like the picture, and I do love the parts that are braided, but the straight parts at the end are not really afro-textured.

If that were the case then Sten's "cornrows" and h3h3 Carvers "dreadlocks" would not exist.
Anywho, The idea would be nice, though I doubt Bioware would be up to such a challenge. I mean...I doubt they would be up to...doing it well. I'm thinking the fly off pieces of hair are microbraids not just straight hair ^^
Though who in their right mind would get them. They are a pain to take out.

Not necessarily. You can dread and cornrow straight hair as well.

Nope, Bioware made those hairs to mimic kinky hair. If they were just meant to be straight hair braided or locked why would they make them at all, there are a crap load of straight hairs. Even more so in DA2.
Notably Decimus does use one of these hairs, but that's definitely used to show that his hair is just dirty and matted (thanks Bioware)

dreads are pretty much all nasty and filthy anyway. Not so with cornrows, though.

I was speaking of fictional settings generally, not this one in particular.Alexandrine Delassixe wrote...

And cornrows don't require afro-textured hair. Long-haired competitors in combat sports routinely wear cornrows, regardless of hair type:

Also skin tone could use more variety in the darker spectrum. Say what you will about Kingdoms of Amalur, but this part of character creation they got very right as do some other games that support the feature.

Simply claiming to be Black on the Internet doesn't give you the right to be ignorant and prejudiced. You obviously know nothing about dreads, so just don't talk about them.
And yes, I have worn my hair in locks in the past, along with my mother. I have never encountered as much straight up ignorance and racism as I did when it came to my hair...

On top of that, the picture you linked is terribly inaccurate. It says its showing Antivan apostate but that's completely wrong. Because Antiva is based of medieval Spain, and not Africa. People from Spain, despite having darker skin color, wouldn't probably wear dreadlocks, like you suggest (more elaborated styles probably).
And in case that Bioware finally decides to make an improvement to hairs, they should first and foremost improve their models (skeleton/meshes of hairs), and primary provide the *classic* long hairstyles, without any 'improvement', which would be appropriate to the settings of the Dragon Age franchise.
EDIT: My mistake. Actually Antiva is bassed of Italy, and Rivain is based on Spain.
