Simply claiming to be Black on the Internet doesn't give you the right to be ignorant and prejudiced. You obviously know nothing about dreads, so just don't talk about them.
And yes, I have worn my hair in locks in the past, along with my mother. I have never encountered as much straight up ignorance and racism as I did when it came to my hair...
My opinion on your hair =/= my opinion on you.
Why do you think that? That doesn't make a lick of sense.
I'm not saying that because you wear dreads you don't wash your hair. I just think they're awful.
And really! My opinion on hair =/= my opinion on my people, black people. Really, where the H*LL did that come from?

EDIT: My mistake. Actually Antiva is bassed of Italy, and Rivain is based on Spain.
It doesn't entirely matter what the historical basis or real-world analogue is. That doesn't limit the fictional possibilities.

You're right about that.
I could start ranting about that, but I'll control myself.

If it were just you mentioning your opinion on dreads, I wouldn't have bothered to reply. You stated that dreads are nasty and dirty, as if it were a fact. You obviously know nothing about dreadlocks as a hairstyle, so again, don't go claiming "facts" about things you don't understand. I said that you are ignorant and prejudiced, and I stand by that. I didn't say anything about you hating Black people, but if that's what you took from it, I can't help it. You said something horrendously rude and inflammatory on the Internet.

I apologize. What I meant, and what I should have said, was that I think dreads look nasty and filthy.
Please show how I am prejudiced, because literally nothing that I said was "prejudiced."
And when you say something like this:

After repremanding me (somewhat justly, perhaps) for my comment on dreads, you're darn well implying that I'm racist.
Horrendously rude? Inflammatory? About your hair? I won't even start (I could rant about this for a looong time), but that kind of attitude is the reason our world is in the state it's in.

On top of that, the picture you linked is terribly inaccurate. It says its showing Antivan apostate but that's completely wrong. Because Antiva is based of medieval Spain, and not Africa. People from Spain, despite having darker skin color, wouldn't probably wear dreadlocks, like you suggest (more elaborated styles probably).
And in case that Bioware finally decides to make an improvement to hairs, they should first and foremost improve their models (skeleton/meshes of hairs), and primary provide the *classic* long hairstyles, without any 'improvement', which would be appropriate to the settings of the Dragon Age franchise.
EDIT: My mistake. Actually Antiva is bassed of Italy, and Rivain is based on Spain.
Answer to this problem, bring black people in the same way the whit epeople brought them into white communities in real life? Might be controversial, but there can always be former slaves killing their masters and joining rebellions (Fenris should be black).

Slavery is only prominent in Tevinter and it's focused on elves at that. Waving your hand is how you handle this.

I don't know what you mean. By adding black people? I reject the premise that black people aren't already in Thedas.

and this is really beautiful for a mid length style...

Something like this, but less vertical, is pretty much what I had in mind. The original fanart just gave me the idea.

How are there white people and Thedas but no black people.
Are they white people with dark skin? Then...they wouldn't be white... Ya'll are some special people.
Anywho, OP. Hair would have to be PRETTY long for it to start falling around the sides. Actually depending on the hair it probably wouldn't fall at all. Kinky hair is sometimes very dry unlike straight hair with it's...vast amount of oils to weight it down. There are exceptions but, I'm sure that would be harder to do than what you want.
I was just looking at this hair site, it tells you the different types of curly hair. It's really only useful for people who have it and just need to know how to take care of it. Just maybe if you look you'll be able to give us a clearer picture of what you want. Here you go.
