How do you do it?

I want to change the conversation text in the actual core single player game campaign.

Can we do stuff like that in 1.01 ?

If so can someone please explain the rocket science behind it?

File -> Manage Modules -> select "Single Player". The dialogue bubble icon on the Palette Window on the right side will allow you to access any of the game's dialogue files.

Be forewarned; each NPC dialogue line has an ID associated with it. That ID is used to associate the correct audio file with the dialogue line. If you change the text of any NPC dialogue, it will assign a new ID to that line, which will cause it to be unvoiced in-game because the line ID no longer matches the sound file ID. It is possible to access the original sound files, save them to the new ID and make a new sound bank file for the dialogue, but it is time consuming and not generally worth the effort if you're just making small changes like fixing typos.

Copy and pasting dialogue has the same effect of creating a new ID for the pasted line, so if you're wanting to add new player choices that link to existing dialogue, be sure to "Paste as Link" when you paste the NPC response to the player choice. That will link it to the original ID and associated sound file, allowing the dialogue to remain voiced in-game.
