Could it be that people disliked more than just "those last 10 minutes" and stopped playing? I know I did. Playing the game was amazing when I was involved in it, but when they stole my face, dropped the game on rails and decided to remove me from the dialogue, why would I continue? I saw they were out to crash the car, so I did the only thing I could do I walked away. Removed 22 GB of save files and came here looking for why "what Bioware said" and "what Bioware actually delivered" were two completely different things. My only completion of ME3 was on my brother's xbox for him, he loved the series and loved Bioware for giving the player so much control. He spent most of his life bed ridden and Mass Effect gave him something that he could both enjoy and to look forward to. I am glad he never got to see that Bioware was going to kill the very thing he loved by giving us a game that was nothing but half efforts and then blaming the fans for not getting it.

I'd say you hit the nail on the head, alot of those people started it and stopped as they weren't enjoying the experience.

I complete most of my games, because it's stupid to buy something and left it unfinished. Like buying DVD and not watching it or buying some food and not eating it. Waste of money. However, some games I can't finish. Like STALKER (boring as hell), Crusader Kings II (too messy and complicated), Europe III (same).

Yep this exactly. I finished it but it is such a less absorbing enjoyable experience in comparison with ME2. Therefore i'm not at all surprised its completion rate is so far below ME2's.

I never finished the Witcher 2, so it's not uncommon. If a game is boring to you, then why finish it?

I have never finished The Witcher, although it is installed on this rig.  I just can't get into it to actually play it.  This has led to me not even buying 2.  If I'd been too busy sandboxing it to finish it, I might have gotten 2 anyway, even if I never finished 1, but it's more it didn't suit me overall, so I just didn't bother.

Bioware is very picky and choosey about what stats they release, Its like what we are seeing are slanted stats

Well, it's not low if you compare with the other games mentioned. It's always surprising to see that so few people actually finish a game.
.
Although I don't finish every game I play, but I finish most.

Well i didnt finish Skyrim, any other games i didnt finish are minor titles, but it seems that 40-50 percent is rather normal, thought the normal rate was about 70-80

Oh dear, that's more than usual. I hope developers don't get any "wise" ideas from BioWare, or else gaming is doomed.

Everyone said the Witcher 2 Series was so amazing, and a true RPG, but it's got god awful pacing and Characters about as well rounded as a mobius strip.  I reached Vergen and it felt like the narrative was wadding through drying concrete

I would love to see the stats for the players that managed to replay it for a second time verus the first two games.  That would be very telling in how everyone feels about ME3.

I wouldn't be surprised if destroying the narrative just to inflate the completetion numbers with people who have more morbid curiousity than sense became the norm. Somehow, it'll convince producers that there's enough interest to make another installment. This kind of makes me happy that when building 343, Bungie and Microsoft actually looked for avid Halo fans in order to ensure that people gave a damn about more than functionality and pretty explosions.

42% wanted to know how the three game story arch concluded. 58% just wanted to shoot stuff and/or got mainly for online multiplay. Obviously that's not an exact breakdown, but it generally, probably boils down to something like that.

That is some weird stuff. I have Witcher 2 to complete for few months though...

I wonder if the DO:O rates were scewed by people playing multiple Origins stories, but only finishing with 1 or 2 characters.

That is quite possible.  I know I didn't finish runs with all the origin stories and only did them to get the achievements.  I did complete the game five times with four different origins.  I did the human noble twice.  To me that was the best origin story wise.

I wonder if it's only console-specific information. I remember when they said that 18% of users played as femShep in ME2 but the statistics were exclusively based on Xbox users. I'd say console gamers are more casual consumers.

I tend to finish a majority of games, even not really enjoyable ones, because
their average gameplay length doesn't take longer than a day or two. Yet I'm always surprised to see how large a rate of dropped games is according statistics.

sorry but from actual stats i92% finished the game within a week of it being released
roughly the same for ME2 and just over 80% for ME1

for DA1 and DA2 it ranged between 77%-94% finished the game within 1 week.

gameinformer cant be trusted unless they have access to bioware / EA server stats.

think about it though.....if only 42% finished the game then why was there over 80% of the gamers protesting the endings for a change when every single one of them knew every mission, every choice from all 3 games.

if it was 42% we would NOT have gotten free multiplayer DLC ((MP is just awfull period)) and the free ending DLC.

it takes OVER 80% of the core ME3 owners to get something changed .so yeah gameimformer knows shack jit

That's funny because:

BioWare online development director Fernando Melo revealed the data during a talk at GDC Europe today, as reported by Eurogamer.

42% thats hilarius

It's WAY above average for a 20+ hour AAA title, though.

We should also take into consideration the huge ending backlash that happened upon release. That could've caused a double-digit drop in completion percentage for all we know. The number is obviously affected by something, yet it really isn't all that bad when you consider the reality of the situation when it comes to game completion in general.

Here's a CNN article from last year that makes for a good reference:

Actual stats from where?  I moused over every word in your post to find the site that you are quoting for your numbers, but I'm not seeing a link, just another blanket statement that says "I'm right, and everybody else is full of it".  This is, while typical of BSN, not really conducive to proving your point.  So I'd like to see where you got your numbers, since the article provided at least cites a source for it's numbers.

Most people don't finish most games they play. Simple fact. Mass Effect 3 is no exception. The reasons are varied...they don't enjoy the game, they have more important things to do, their PC/console breaks, they lend the game to someone who loses it, they find another game to play etc etc. Again - what a lot of people on these forums struggle to comprehend - is that you very much represent the minority. We are the obsessives, the superfans, the ME hardcore, our passion and opinions represent a very small percentage of people who have played the game. Most people really don't care!!!

after I found out what happened at the end and that there was no way to change it I stooped just after the Krogan story arch it took me about a month to pick it back up again and only after hearing how good the Ranoch was. also to finish the LI storyline then the end shat all over it what a shame.
