I like the repulse glyph. It is very versatile. You can stay inside it to keep things away from you, use it to keep things in an area effect spell, use it to knock things down with, or combo it for a massive paralyze with the glyph of paralyzation.

Fireball.

its just an awesome spell. great damage, very disruptive of enemy groups. cool graphics. its also the only AoE spell in the game with long range and instant cast time. really good stuff.

This.  And fireball has a short cooldown so it can be used several times on large fights or fights with waves of adds.

A close second is Sleep+Waking nightmare.  Because if I can't totally destroy the enemy I can at least have them turn on one another and they can destroy themselves.

Crushing Prison! Aside from the delicious Force Field combo, it's arguably the best single target disable - it prevents all movement and activity, even for bosses and stun immunes, it lets you keep dealing damage, AND it deals damage of its own! It's good that this skill is tier 4, because even still I get it on most of my Mages.

I am rather partial to the cone of pwn. When backed up by 3 (or 4!) auto crit attacks, I can take several guys out of the fight instantly. Plus it's great for locking down enemies and is pretty easy to avoid wacking my own guys, unlike say, blizzard.

As question is not about most usefull spell I will skip Mass Heal or Fire Ball or Glyphs.

My favorite spell is Stinging Swarm. I like the animation and natural feel it has.

I don't have one single favorite, but these are among the best:

- Fireball. CC and AoE damage. Short cooldown.

- Group Heal. Like heal, but for a whole group. Amazing spell.

- Blood Wound. Best CC in the game, though it really is too bad you have to be in Blood Magic mode to use it (and of course they "forgot" to mention this in the spell description...).

- Cone of Cold. It's good only because of the low cooldown. Otherwise it's not as good as people say it is, and should not have been nerfed (it works what, 1 second, on a boss, pitiful).

- Force Field. Grabbed? Force Field. Curse of Mortality? Force Field. Too much aggro? Force Field. Need more CC? Force Field. This spell is always helpful.

Mana Clash. You have to love a spell that does 4 digit damage regularly.

Otherwise, Fireball.

Force field would be my favourite spell too. All purpose goodness, for any situation.

Sleep + waking nightmare are great for running in, creating havok and then sitting back and loling at the effects. My favourite has to be cone of cold + stonefist, though.

Stack Blizzard, Tempest, Cloud of Death and Earthquake and have your party hold position for and AOE fest like no other.

Cone of Cold and Stonefist (or Shale's slam) for a Shatter to remember. Image IPB

Um, Crushing Prison does not disable orange (boss) level enemies.

Not really a favorite spell, but I Love the Spirit Tree because of early light CC and heavy anti Mage firepower (Mana Clash), massive AoE Damage (Walking Bomb) and of course Crushing Prison (sometimes Combo w/ Bubble if needed)

My favorite spell Combo - Blood Wound (the DoT really helps triggering da Bomb) + Virulent Walking Bomb

the enemys left are mostly elites so -> Crushing Prison, battle won

What difficulty are you playing on? I've never seen an orange mob be disabled by CP. Even some yellows are immune to its stun, it just acts as a dot.

I think what he is trying to say is. On mobs that will not be disabled by CP it does at least some damage...

Every spell has its moment.. but choosing only 2 o 3..

1.Repulsion glypht. Versatile, great to survive and great to thrown enemies to the inferno behind them. Protect the mage but can also protect other's party's members

2.Inferno (great in close rooms with entry closed by a repulsion glypth, or to send greetins to archers or mages behind lines)

3.Curse symbols (great great help against powefull enemies)
