I've kind of wondered this as well. In my limited experience with NDAs, what the OP did would be, at the least, highly looked down on.

If it were a hoax, my guess is they would do absolutely nothing. (As you will see evidenced in this thread.)

If it were true ... no idea. Possibly nothing. I'd have thought breaking an NDA would at least be grounds for banning the account, and that should be easy enough ...

Well, this sounds really dumb, but I do believe. First, because leaks from Bioware tend to be accurate, second because Bioware is clearly out of touch and creating mediocre games now. This is about as mediocre as it gets.
Well, ok, Inquisitor should be an orphan. Then it's as mediocre as it gets.

Also, you saw a picture of warden companion, and a seeker companion when they started to discuss the game. We are going show you a warden and a seeker as examples of armor placement in Dragon Age 3, but not use them in the game. I don't remember anyone stating they wanted to see any of those types of characters in the game. Really, I do not see anything that resembles anything that people have asked for in the various forums.
1_We know that Flemeth and Morrigan are going to part of Dragon Age 3, and I do not see them using something like a mystical bomb to destroy their enemies.
2)This is stating that when all the books and games left off that everyone from the Crows to the Mages to the Chantry were heading toward civil war within their own organizations are now going to form peace, only to go back to being chaos. That is not good writing,
3)Dragon Age: Origins starts off with a betray that threatens everyone, and Dragon Age II started with out of the chaos rises a champion, so you are telling me that Dragon Age III is just combining the two ideas. I think Dragon Age writers are a bit more clever than that.
4) Also I think when they come up with names, they google to see if that name is used, and when the name like "Iron Bull" is used in WOW and Champion Online for a pc, then I think they would change it.
5)Quanari that don't follow the Qun are Tal Vashoth, and they are stilll stoic people. Lol, this makes it look like the Quanari are being turned into  Dragon Age 3 Krogran which I have hard time believing.

This is all pretty interesting whether or not it's legit...

Although I admit I thought they had pretty much finished writing the story and had moved onto other areas of production? It seems odd to do a survey about characters after the fact. Wouldn't a better time to release this be when the characters are being developed as opposed to once the writing is nearly done? I could be wrong about the timelines though - it's just what I've judged based on Tweets from some of the writers and might be way off base.

If I'm right though it seems a little late in the game to ask whether certain character types are appealing or not. What if the general consensus is that a character stinks? What then?

Agreed, they finished the story already, and this doesn't seem at all how Bioware creates stories.

I'm not sure that any developer does focus groups anymore (if they ever did).  If they did, DA2 would have been a lot different just by reading all of the older posts prior to DA2's release.  Especially after the DA2 demo was released.

*If* it's real, it would most likely be information gathered for marketing purposes, to have an idea of what appeals to consumers, and what to focus on when they finally do announce the game.

I just hope that they have a more inclusive marketing campaign, this time around.  I knew from the moment I saw Marketing!Garrett Hawke, that I would not be playing that particular character, so I was pretty disenfranchised for quite a while, not to mention how interviews with the devs seemed to put down DA:O in favor of the newer game.
