in this forum and the people saying they are either going to re-play baldurs gate, play it for the first time or that DA isnt as good as BG in important aspects, well, i think bioware should make note!

I don't intend to be rude. Truly I don't. When I do mean to be rude, I'm pretty good at being clear about it. Keep that in mind, please.

Kindly restructure your post above. It's a run-on, and to be honest I'm really not sure what you're trying to say. Are you simply saying Bioware should pay attention to how much people are comparing this game to Baldur's Gate 1-2? I doubt that could have possibly missed it.

Results: 1 comma (opt.) + 1 comma to semicolon

You think you're all smart, grammar bot, but us humans can understand it just fine! Machines will never rule the world!

Well... I'd like to say that I was going to pass on DA:O. I have a pretty hard and fast rule that after two disappointing releases from a company, I don't buy another product from them (JE and ME).

However, I was replaying the BGs in September and preordered DA:O out of a fit of nostalgia.

I am glad I did.

I must admit that DA:O made me wipe off the dust of my old BG2 box and play it again to remember the old times. Not that DA is bad! Is just that it made me remember BG :D

off-topic: Is it possible to play BG2 in a resolution larger than 800x600? The in-game texts are so tiny!

Very. Not only are there Widescreen mods, but within BG2 itself you can use resolutions over 800x600 in the Config tool. They're just not "supported" (whatever that means... LOL)

The game config offers 1024x768, 1280x960, 1600x1200 and 2048x1536.

But, I recently bumped into this page, which didn't really interest me because I don't have wide monitor.
www.gibberlings3.net/widescreen/
I'm not much for monster resolutions for this game. Makes the characters too tiny for my taste.

If you follow that rule, how do you by any games at all?

It's a matter of who's the license owner... and to be honest, I don't think BioWare of today could do the game justice. Market and game costs have simply transformed the game industry too much (and, if I'm not mistaken, I recall reading somewhere a statement (from BioWare or old Black Isle team) how they outdid themselves with Baldur's Gate 2 and that it would be pretty much impossible for them to ever match or top it).

Of course, could be me just rationalizing things due of absence of Baldur's Gate 3.

It wouldn't have anything at all to do with DA:O being called the "spiritual successor" to the Baldur's Gate franchise.

I think that DAO does a good job being the "spiritual successor" to Baldur's Gate.

I've certainly not been so immersed in and enthralled with a game since BG.

As for that sentence fragment posted by the OP, I THINK he was trying to suggest that he thought people posting about BG were expressing that it was better than DAO, and that Bioware should pay attention and make a game that's more like BG.

If so, I disagree with him. FIrst, he doesn't seem aware that Bioware was consciously trying to make this game like BG, and second, I think they succeeded..

One of the issues with comparisons to the Baldur's Gate series is that the game making process is a little different than it is now. Think about the graphics involved in BG2, now look at Dragon Age. In addition, a lot of Baldur's Gate was text based and there were, what? Three cutscenes in the entire game?

Don't get me wrong, I love BG, and I have been playing it for years and I still hold out hope that someday Gibberlings3 will finish the Amber mod for TOB because I will still play it through. However, when they say they don;t make em like they used to, they are being serious.

Something not being supported by a software company means "If it breaks your computer, or it doesn't look/work right on your particular setup, don't come crying to us."

Because people don't understand that "in the same spirit as" doesn't mean "exactly the same as this really old game in every single way"
