It wouldn't be legit without green biotics.

I miss Zodiac. I don't think he has Xbox LIVE anymore.
In truth some could have survived like the Leviathans but a huge number is not likely a small group between 5 to 10 I could see though.DullahansXMark wrote...
Going back and playing ME1 really makes me not appreciate this idea. The whole point of the race is to serve as a victim of the Reapers. Revealing that a bunch survived would obliterate the best game in the series in terms of meaning.

They did, on Ilos. We all know how well that went.
From a writing perspective bringing back ONE prothean was good. Any SINGLE other prothean would utterly destroy the effect of both the race and Javik.

How so? Reviving a number of them to help against the Reapers would do poetic justice. Furthermore, Javik's primary goals would be fullfilled against all odds.

Again Leviathans plus its not a whole planet Protheans people want to see. Protheans spread arcoss the galaxy twice as much as or cycle so a small handful is very reasonable. The whole reapers forces passed through Batarian space and they are still around. Reapers aren't perfect and have flaws which have been shown throughout the series. I think it would actually make more sense because how much more advanced the Protheans where than us, and how they did have survival plans for them losing to the reapers. We have no back ups and are getting wiped out faster that the Protheans which took years to do im sure more survived because I doubt the collocters just sat around for thousands of years without aging being organic and synthetic. Im sure the Reapers collocted protheans that survived or that where in stasis.DullahansXMark wrote...

Because the only reason the Protheans exist within the Mass Effect series is to showcase what happens when you mess with the Reapers. That's it.
The only reason Javik exists is to be a cool optional character that is forced into being the sole representative of his extinct race as the Avatar of Vengeance.
Have you read up on the upcoming Metal Gear Rising? If you have, you're surely aware of the whole "revenge" theme going on with Raiden. Now imagine if to get his revenge, Raiden teamed up with a bunch of random-ass cyborgs and they all just went in and slaughtered Desperado Enforcement. That just destroys the entire atmosphere. Not simply Raiden. The atmosphere of the entire game.
The atmosphere of the first Mass Effect was, the Protheans suddenly ceased to exist 50k years ago, and Shepard has reason to believe some strange things called "Reapers" were behind it. Over the course of the game, you learn how grand the Prothean Empire was. And then you find out that the Reapers absolutely crushed every last one of them. That is scary stuff. That built the Reapers up as an invincible force that would take some real work to overcome if they annihilated a much more advanced race that easily. (And that's not even getting into the fact that they were later repurposed into the Collectors. That made the Reapers that much more frightening.)
By including the Prothean race--who I've just stated were created solely to showcase the might of the Reapers--you eliminate the feeling of great threat that the Reapers represent.

I'm gonna ask you a question. I do not mean this in a negative connotation or anything.
Have you played the very first Mass Effect?

Yes, it's possible to create a lore-friendly explanation to the return of the protheans. But then the ideal behind the race would be gone. They are the mighty race that did things we can only imagine to repeat, and even them lost to the Reapers.

This wouldn't be any worse than the lore breaking that Bioware itself has done.
I think it would be cool to do.
I almost see multiplayer as a separate game now anyway, so who cares?
But they have to do Fem Protheans too, LOL!

How tragic. We may as well submit to the Reapers then.

You don't get my ideal. Let's explain in other way. Imagine the Reapers as a dragon, this cicle as a man and the Protheans as a giant. The giant, who is a lot more powerful than a man, tried to fight the dragon but died. The man seeing this may think such a battle is impossible (if even the giant wasn't enough, what can he do?) but it just feels even more special when, against all odds, he wins against it.
Bringing back the giant would be cool, yeah, but the victory would feel a lot less epic.

How so? I get what you are saying but I disagree. I think by giving the Protheans(a small amount of them I may add) a second chance, this would be a major morale boost. It proves that the Reapers are not Omnipotent, they make mistakes. And if the Protheans(even a just a dozen) can survive against all odds, I would be inspired and filled with hope.
Javik survived, and his mission can still be completed. Against impossible odds, a few breathe and opnly defy the Reapers! We can do this!
Comparing Protheans to a giant is a bit of an overstatement.. They are organic and small like us. We can relate to them.
