At this point I wish they would just remove the N7 ranking all together since all it does is spur conversations/threads like this one.

lol honestly I'd like to join a public gold/platinum lobby with all you people that say N7 doesnt matter with your level 120s~800s with both of us using level 1 characters with the same weapons and everything, and see which one of us gets booted out the lobby 1st, If I even get booted at all.
My N7 rank is only 600, but I'm pretty sure you would get booted first if people check weapons.

It's not a stupid idea. It's a suggestion for one way that novice players could be kept out of the higher levels they're clearly not ready for. It's not a perfect solution by any means, but it's more than most people have offered.
Of course it's a stupid idea, sure below 120 you know for sure that the player will surely be bringing a knife into a gunfight.
But a N7 120 can never have promoted, and have a manifest on par with someone with N7 3000+
So at N7 120 or above the only hints you have on the real level of the player is what he brings into the fight.
That is where the HUMAN INTELECT comes into play.
If you see a N7 120 + entering a gold/plat lobby with a common weapon even at X, you can kick him.
if you see a N7 120 + entering a gold/plat lobby with a level 20 toon, UR weapons and consumable, he clearly deserve a chance, and if you don't give him that chance you are clearly stupid.
So yes, supid Idea is stupid.

... You kinda missed the point, if we both are using the same weapons/class/level, your surely going out the window 1st. Now i don't really understand the whole weapons comment either. My manifest is 23 UR upgrades behinde you? lol awesome, good to know I'd be in a lobby with my less substantial manifest...Ashen Earth wrote...

The only meaningful N7 threshhold is 120. After that you should be looking at guns and gear.
Yup. a level 120 with a harrier x compared to a level 3000 with a harrier 1. who do you think has done better?

N7 rank means nothing if you haven't noticed. It just means you have leveled your characters all the time. What does that mean? Exactly, it's an indication that you haven't played Gold or Platinum that much, it just means that you wasted your time leveling char's. Srsly mate, I'm surprised that you can't see the huge flaw in your proposal.
No. Most horrible idea I've read on the forum.
This.
Ppl should realize that constant promoting basically means that most of your games were not played on platinum (or even gold) difficulty.

Having more game time doesn't necessarily translate into more skills. N7 rank is a very poor way of judging player.

If I had a choice between playing with an N7 3000 vs an N7 200, I would go with the 200. Almost every player that i've seen with a high N7 usually rage quits because they didn't top the scoreboard or brags about how bad ass they are when they are terrible team players.

And hours played unfortunately isn't enough, it would have to include data on extraction rates and hours played per difficulty and the like, only a truly comprehensive system would do what needs to be done without breaking more than it fixes. It would be nice if they decided to go for it (and not in the half-assed way they did it last time they tweaked the matchmaking), unfortunately I don't see it happening (any attempt worth doing would likely be more involved than they're prepared to handle, I wouldn't care to think of all the coding issues they'd have redesigning the whole matchmaking from the ground up, so not gonna happen).
And better by far if they do nothing than half-assing it again. It's a choice between all-out redesign or no change at all (unless it's easier to do what I'm suggesting than I know, in which case I'll eat my words).
