Nwn is 1 of my all time favorite games and i recently got a new pc and when i try to install it,when  its done windows defender complains bout win32 reg schedule(or something another)....ive tried installing it twice and the first time i let win32 go through and my computer was slowed down excessively and i had to restore and the second time i removed it from my pc.
The second time when i removed win32 from my pc the game played but when i re-booted my pc it would only go as far as the main menu.
The first time when i let win32 go through the game played but eventually my pc was slow as moses.
If someone could help me get running id be grateful and heres my system info:

I think the problem is the game installs win32 regschedule and if i leave it in the game plays but eventually bogs my pc down..if i take it out the game plays till i exit the game and then it only goes to the main menu and says nwn has stopped working.

Heres some more info on my pc:

Did you read the sticky thread: "Installing NWN1 for Win7/vista including patch links for all OS" at the top of the thread list? NWN works perfectly on my win7 system, and it installs NWN - but you could install, but not play, if I understood correctly?

And what is this win32 regschedule you wrote about? I never heard of that one.

Windows defender warns you about win32? Strange, because win32 is a core component of 64bit windows 7 systems and is needed to run 32bit software like nwn an many others. FYI, I am using win7 64bit, too - but I don't have windows defender nor any other software firewall installed because my home network has a hardware firewall.

According to Wikipedia (german), windows defender is outdated and has been replaced by Microsoft Security Essentials.

All i know is that nwn is trying to put something onto my computer and action center doesnt like it,if i let go on to my computer my system gets excessivley slowed down and nwn works for a bit and if i dont put onto my computer it works for just a short period of time.
Tomorrow il try and put nwn back onto my computer and write down exactly what is trying to go on my computer and report back.

So, the problem program is powerregscheduler, and win32 is simply the folder it is in. I don't know what it does, but at least we now have the culprit's name.

Try shutting down the security program while you play NWN.  It's likely it will restart on each bootup automatically and if you want it to be running when you are not playing NWN (after shutting it off, of course...) you will need to reactivate it again.  Find where it is located (before shurtting it off via Task Manager) on your harddrive, make a shortcut and place it on your desktop.

That's only a possible solution if the bot doesn't automatically rstart itself as soon as any other program starts.  If that's the case, it would need to uninstalled completely, possibly an alternative you may not want to accept.  The new security layers can be a real pain to manage with the older games like NWN.  Just the way it is, mate. :(

Here's another idea. Try a clean boot. These instructions tell how to do it in Windows XP, so it might work differently in Windows 7. Find msconfig.exe and make a shortcut on your desktop. In my Win XP computer, it is in C:\\WINDOWS\\PCHEALTH\\HELPCTR\\Binaries. Run it, choose Selective Startup, and uncheck everything except System Services. Next, go to the Services tab, check Hide All Microsoft Services, and then click Disable All. Click OK and let it reboot the computer. After playing NWN, to go back to normal, run msconfig again, choose Normal Startup, click OK, and let it reboot.

It will be a hassle to have to do that every time you play NWN, but if it works, it's better than not getting to play such a great game at all.

I just wanted to say that nwn installs fine but at the end of installing it i get that defender alert about
program:win32/powerregscheduler and it asks me what to do.If i allow it nwn plays and it eventually slows my pc down to a crawl, but if i block it i cant play at all...so its something nwn is putting into my pc....im on windows 7 64bit with 8gigs of ram.I sure dont wanna give up on nwn aint there something i can do without taking the risk of damaging my pc?

Did you download the installer (like from GoG)? If you downloaded it, maybe you got a corrupted download. Maybe re-downloading it would fix it.

I would recommend doing a search for "powerreg scheduler.exe". Some of the salient points from the results include:

1) The legitimate form of this program is an attempt to manage delayed product registration. The program design does not conform well with modern Windows security protocols.

2) There are malicious spyware variants.

3) You might be able to avoid installation of the program simply by not postponing product registration.

4) Tips are available for removal.
