Er... that's kinda the point of a keylogger. All you have to do is click a link to install it. Like the one you got in your email invitation. You might want to run Malawarebyte just to be safe.

Anyway, about the survey being real or not - a friend did some digging with some people she knows in the industry and said that survey is actually a key logger (am I using the right term?) - anyway, a virusy-type thing that keeps track of your internet activities and passwords.

So if her source is correct it'll have been just a really elaborate way to screw people over. Which is sad, but then why wouldn't the devs come out and say "It's fake, and furthermore it's dangerous"?

They're at Gamescon. I doubt they're checking every speculation thread, even if they do claim to contain insider info. And there is a certain "Well, you did ask for it." element involved.

Keep in mind that kernel-embedded keyloggers like rootkits might not show up. That would be some pretty sophisticated coding for limited payoff, but some people go to a lot of trouble to screw other people over. And not all malware scanning programs are created equal. My computer got infected by a rootkit that installed from a geeky astronomy video my boss sent me (his computer got infected, too), and both Ad-Aware and Bit Defender missed it. I tried to run Malawarebyte, but the rootkit kept deleting the malware scanner before I could run it. In the end, I had to do a system restore all the way back to factory OS installation.

You might consider changing some of the more important passwords from a different computer.
