I'm much interested in knowing why people think Daniel Day Lewis is a good actor. Seriously, the guy just yells and flails his body around and everyone says he's amazing...

I'm curious as to which Daniel Day Lewis films you've seen, it's all a matter of opinion but I think DDL is the finest actor of his generation.  Have you seen his earlier work like My Left Foot and In the Name of the Father?

I've seen pretty much all of his movies. I like My Left Foot and Last Of The Mohicans, but after about 1995 he just went all-out on the ridiculous style of acting that he's known for now.

That's why he was so great in the movie: his character isn't subtle. He tries to be, but deep down, the more and more money and power he gets, the angrier and spiteful he becomes. That's the whole point of the character. That's why he loses it at the end of the movie.

Was he playing the same character in Gang of New York? Because he was pretty much the same guy in that. The man doesn't know what subtlety is. It's not the characters, its the actor.

I don't think anyone came out of Gangs of New York looking good, that was a pretty ordinary movie.
And Daniel Day Lewis in Last of the Mohicans - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm  Image IPB
Whenever I read Lord of the Rings I still picture Daniel Day Lewis as Aragorn, Viggo Mortensen did a splendid job in the movie, but in my head, when I read the book, DDL from Last of the Mohicans is how I picture Aragorn.

He's playing Abraham Lincoln in his next movie, so if he shouts and waves his arms about in that, then I'll be happy to accept your assessment as superior to mine but until then, he's an acting god.

Watch Nine and tell me he's a good actor. He doesn't have a solid script or better actors to lean on in that movie so you really see just how cartoonish his acting is.

The Mary Sue point of view comes from the perception that she's a special snowflake female qunari elf who can fight and how she's the center of attention and gets flirted with and wears a nice dress and effortlessly stays in the shadows during the stealth section and picks the lock like it's nothing and has the power of plot behind her to just say "no" when demanded that she hand over the list, when femHawke has a tomboy outfit and no one cares how she looks and she can't pick the lock off of a paper bag or sneak her way past a comatose deaf guard even if she's a rogue while the other companions just get themselves uselessly lost. So, it's not about her being perfect in every way, per se.

I'm sure the person with the really strong opinion about it could articulate their vehemence better than I.

If we're talking about special snowflakes, I can't help but think Alistair is much more of one than Tallis. He's the poor, neglected bastard son of King Maric (wasn't there also something about him descending from some powerful dragon something or other?) who got recruited as a templar (with all the skills minus the lyrium addiction) and then joined the Grey Wardens (with Duncan, the Warden Commander, personally taking him under his wing). After Ostagar, he is one of the only two Grey Wardens left in Ferelden and can, depending on the player's choices, become (a naturally gifted) King after defeating the Blight.

(And for all we know, his mother could be Andraste herself. :B)

So yeah, that screams special snowflake more than a Qunari elf that tends to overestimate herself.

Don't get me wrong though, I like Alistair, he just sometimes seems to get worshipped a bit too much.

Hale is a poor renegade and her angry voice sounds extremely forced. Seriously, just compare both of them at the end of Overlord. You can hear the anger and emotion in Meers when he talks to Dr.Gavin Archer. Hale sounds like she's choking on something.

I don't hate Hale, I find her to be a great voice actor, but people seriously let her past history blind their opinion.

I like Hale in Spider-Man: The Animated Series, where she was both The Back Cat and Felecia Hardy. She had good range.

Also on Talis, I dislike how much she hogs the spotlight, her intro cinamatic is too long and yu can't get her to fail or call her out on the Qun's many, many flaws. I felt like the writing just shoved her in my face and said, "She is perfect, accept it".

Did not like.

After watching the webseries, I like her more but I'm still bitter
that the last DLC was all about Tallis instead of Hawke and her
family&friends.

The difference is that, despite being forced on us for the entire game, in the end you can: kill him or get rid of him.

Felicia Hardy is Black Cat. That's like saying saying you're a fan of Neil Patrick Harris because he showed so much range as Doogie Howser and Doogie Howser M.D.

Not really. No matter what Hawke was cowed into fighting alongside Tallis and caving into her demands. All we were really able to do was take a different route in a cave, but Tallis always got what she wanted in the end.

In the meantime, keep giving us your feedback at expos, fan conventions, and online. We are listening.

Not so much in the 90's series, they were very different parts of her, Black Cat looks acts and sounds very different to Felicia, watch the show, I would recomonend the 'Partners in danger" arc, which introduces the Black Cat as a good example.

Compare her introduction to everyone elses.

Hers goes for a good 1/2 minitue of her killing dudes, everyone else gets a quick 10 sec intro of them doing someing cool.

It just takes too long is my point.

... unless it's actually called Dragon Age: Inquisition?

I think you have a good point though, Mark [edit: Mike, even] should totally break all his non-disclosure agreements, spoil Bioware's marketing strategy and reveal the game before the studio wants to in a manner that most of its potential audience wouldn't even notice just so you don't feel like you're being treated like an idiot. I mean, it's not like they want to make sure it has a big reveal, at a media-heavy event that more people will actually watch, and is announced in a state that doesn't make flocks of people scream about poor quality amid comparisons with its predecessor.

You should probably add that it will have a multiplayer component of some sort *preps flame-shield*

Before I get attacked: http://www.escapistm...er-Games?page=1

In an interview Frank Gibeau basically said that no games being developed or published from now on will be a sole single-player experience because they aren't financially viable, now, I would simply point him towards the Witcher 2, Mass Effects 1 and 2, Dragon Age: Origins and Skyrim to show how wrong he is, but then again I don't want EA's games anymore and apparently they don't want my money or opinion either so win-win I guess.

First off, pretty much all of the acting on that show was awful and hammed up. Second, Hale going from hammy vixen to whiny valley girl is nothing compared to Meer going from Shepard to a Volus or a Volus to a Vorcha.
I don't think Hale is a bad actress, she just doesn't have anywhere near the range Meer does.

I think that Leah, one of the main characters in Diablo III, sounds not much like what we know as the "Jennifer Hale Voice" (FemShep, Trishka from Bulletstorm, the female Republic Trooper in SWTOR), and many other of her roles are different too (Cinderella in the direct to video Disney sequel, Billy's mom from the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Aayla Secura on SW: The Clone Wars, even Bastila in KOTOR...).  She just gets hired for "that voice" frequently in video games, it seems.

Honestly, I wish people would quit comparing Jennifer Hale to Mark Meer every time one of them is mentioned.  If Mark Meer has a big role in DA3, great.  That has nothing to do with FemShep.

Thats not the characters fault, or Felica Day's, that is BioWare's fault for making an entrance. Honestly complaining about it being so long is just...silly.

As to her character, I kind of liked the point that she was somewhat hypocritical because she was unsure of what to believe regarding her chosen way of life. It made her vastly more dynamic and more of an extroverted version of Sebastian, who had a similar arc but seemed to be at peace with his faith, just not himself. Tallis was the opposite, shes at peace with herself, but not with her beliefs.

It was a nice touch. Made her kind of douchy, yes, but that is the mark of a good character, when they have dynamics and layers like that involved.

I know, but can you imagine how bad this is going to get when/if Mark Meer is revealed to have a large role?  I'd be disappointed if every thread about his character devolved into another MaleShep v. FemShep fight.  Blech.  I'm hoping most people can just cut it off as soon as someone starts to take the thread off topic.

Quoting because no one seemed to notice it.

I am fine with multiplayer, as long as it does not detract from the single-player or ends up being like that fiasco with ME3 and the  bonus ending.

(i'm surprised it went like 10 comments without being noticed)

but seriously!?!?! I honestly don't knwo how i feel about this. I liked the multipler-ness to ME3, but want to be able to customize more without spending boocoo bucks or playing for hours randomly being able to change minor stuff at random. If they do it (which they will at this point), i'm looking forward to how they improve it. Since i'm pretty sure they took a lot of feedback from ME3.

(staying positive over here) :)

WoW is the only MP game I enjoy. I doubt anyone will beat WoW anytime soon, either on PVP or raiding so I don't think it is for me. But I'm fine with it if I get another good DA single player game
