Best class for Insanity playthrough

I beat ME3 [PS3] twice now and I have gotten pretty much all the trophies except the ones awarded for completing Insanity. I have played ME3 as an Infiltrator and an Engineer. I really enjoyed the Engineer because of it's abundance of tech powers and I pretty much built him to be a one person squad. I read about the other classes and their abilities in the breakdown portion of each class in the guidebook. My question is which class would be the most effective while playing the game on insanity? Should I rely on my engineer or consider going through the game as a different class then importing that class for a new game plus?
Any advice would be appreciated.

The easiest way IMO is tanky sentinel, just do cluster grenade + double throw to kill entire groups, you don't even need to care about cooldowns.

Import from ME2 to get some level points, but not necessary. Buff Fitness, Nova and Biotic Charge first and foremost. That's really all the skills you need( Maybe put the rest into shockwave so you have a reliable range attack)
Biotic charge, then nova, then biotic charge to get barriers up, then nova. Both skills recharge quickly, plus you can pause the game and select charge target via the power selection circle. If use it correctly, you will rarely need to use cover.
Guarantee to kill everything in your path. When encounter Banshees, try to charge then nova AWAY from them, not into them, or else you might get synch-kill.
You won't need a weapon, so just stick with the Predator. Your default N7 armor works fine because it buff health, and you won't need shield because everytime you charge it recharges barriers anway. And you won't need those other power damage, power recharge, melee damage or weapon damage crap if you're beating the snitz out of fools with nova anyway.
Extremely fun, great anger relief from playing Soldiers and other classes. Beating up bosses with your barehand; literally.
This class also proves how broken the game is.Back in ME2, there wasn't Nova, so you had to use a shotgun, and biotic charge took several seconds to recharge. It was good fun charging at them and shooting fools point-blank in the face with a claymore. In ME3, I just don't see any reason to play any other classes if you can just mow them down with Vanguard.
Have fun.

Sentinel is also good, perhaps "safer" depending on how you build, but the Vanguard allows you to brainlessly charge near everything and set off biotic and tech combos for pretty crazy damage. And you get Incendiary Ammo too.

Strategy is basically let Liara use Singularity, and then detonate with throw. Repeat until everyone is dead.
If someone has barriers or shields, let squadmate use Overload. Then repeat the above. If the opponent still has shields after overload, or if your Overload squadmate is dead, let Liara use Warp, and detonate with throw.
Against armored enemies, also let Liara use Warp and detonate with throw.
If Liara is dead, use Singularity/Warp yourself and detonate with throw yourself.

Focus the armor around power cooldown reduction and weapon damage bonus and you will have yourself a walking biotic/soldier/tech tank making this class the most verstile. And really in my opinion the Sentinel almost makes the Adept or Soldier class pointless.
Another fun OP class to play is Infiltrator with marksman as the bonus skill. On rank 6 tactical cloak evolution pick the bonus power use so that when you cloak you can stack marksman. The great thing about this is that when you cloak and use marksman then fire to come out of cloak the power being reset is for the tactical cloak and not the marksman. So what this means is that you can stay in marksman mode for a infinite amount of time as long as you keep cloaking and then using marksman. With this build I can take down an Atlas in a couple of seconds using a strong moderate firing assault rifle like the Cerberus Harrier.

You are sort of playing him like a a non-cloak infiltrator, so I wouldn't go infiltrator unless you want to do a CQB infiltrator run.
I did a Sentinel with Barrier or Defensive Matrix that just spammed throw and it was fairly easy but I found it sort of repetitive and boring by the end. It was powerful, but mindless.

For the Adept you should keep your power cooldown as high as possible, so equip Heavy Pistols and SMG's. Focus on the biotic explosions, I would recommend choosing Stasis as a bonus power and focusing on the Warp/Stasis > Throw/Cluster Granade. Bring Liara or Kaidan with you and spam Reave/Warp/Singularity and your game will sound like a dubsteb soundtrack from all the explosions.

Adept: Crowd control, telekinesis, setting up and detonating biotic explosions. Oh and you also have a grenade, which is very useful, but out of place for an adept. You can easily nuke a battlefield by yourself. Shielded goons be warned. Warp/throw combo does wonders. Yank those riot shields away, and trap enemies in a singularity. There is so much to love about the adept. Little wonder it is my favourte class. But it suffers from being a one trick pony.
Engineer: At opeing poster, you know the following, but for those who don't: Distraction, protectional removal (through your overload and incinerate) and additional squadmate (through drone and turret). Oh and you can freeze enemies. Sabotage works well. I miss the biotic power dominate, but having sabotage (which has AI Hacking included) is amazing. Bear in mind that overload and sabotage have dual functions. Overload stuns organics and removes shields, whilst sabotage makes weapons overheat and synthetics turn on one another.
Soldier: Strong gun blitzing class, with the best damage per second with guns, despite nerfs to adrenaline rush. Has limited crowd control with a concussive shot that can synergise with ammo powers (thanks to amplify) and a grenade. Ammo mods are the highlight. How many classes can bost having both disruptor ammo and incendiary ammo without relying on James Vega and Ashley Williams? If Ashley isn't around, that's no disruptor ammo.
Infiltrator: You know the strengths of this class. But for those who don't. Best ranger by a long shot. Great for long range sniping and close ranged cloak and dagger. Good tech abilities for overwhelming foes. Can go comando too, if you're going for a soldier with tech powers rather than a stealth assassin. The Infiltrator also has a grenade. But sticky grenades are really tough to use well. They don't have the radius of other grenades. So precision is important here.
Vanguard: Has some biotic abiliites, but real strength is mass destruction through the Charge/Nova combination. Vanguard doesn't need biotic warp, since vanguard is the biotic warp. Good ammo mods for going comando. When close ranged shooting doesn't work so well, the ammo mods come in handy for ranged assault. Also it's the only class except for adept that can yank riot shields away.
Sentinel: Want a caster? You have warp, throw, overload and cryo blast. Want a soldier? Bring your tech armour and lift grenades. Want a close ranged assault, bring a shotgun, detonate that armour and blast your enemies. Whilst shooting isn't their greatest strength, this can be mitigated with markman as bonus power, and borrowing a squadmate's ammo power.
I love Mass Effect 3's combat system. Fast, intuitive, plenty of combos to mess around with, and 6 classes that feel trully unique. The multiplayer boasts even more inventive combinations of powers. So the fun doesn't end in single player. However, after having played Silver and Gold waves in multiplayer and having beaten insanity 4 times, the toughest challenge in single player doesn't seem so hard. Sure it has it's peaks (Grissom Academy, Rannoch Reaper and the hoards of banshees and brutes in the last mission), but otherwise not to taxing.

Just wrapped up my Adept Insanity playthrough, and I have to say I do love those blue explosions! Also, the ability to set up ridiculously effective biotic combos (Warp+Shockwave) on enemies with armor - like Brutes, Banshees and Ravagers - comes very handy. Playing a space mage is loads of fun!
I think I probably completely nerfed the game by choosing Shield Drain as my bonus power, since pretty much every enemy with a shield/barrier became a walking supply pylon. Also had almost all the time at least one squaddie with Overload in the party (after Priority:Citadel I went pretty much everywhere with my dream team Garrus & Kaidan) and pretty much breezed through the game.
So, I vote for Adept, but then again if you don't play Adept "correctly" you're in for a lot of Critical Mission Failure screens, since Adept is a glass cannon class (much like Vanguard) and its defensive capabilities are limited to RUN and PRAY. Have a light load-out and try to keep the cooldown bonus at 200%, put as much distance between you and your enemies as possible, use our powers often and set up biotic combos as often as possible and you're good.

i tried a vanguard but charge, and nova trump anything you can do. cloaking is a neat trick, but outside of biotics, and invisability, combining charge, nova, and stasis, its ridiculous. i stopped using pull, never used shockwave, i couldnt care less who my squad was, the defense drone was useless...... i quit because charge/nova wasnt my cup of tea.
made me miss ME1s tactical version of combat though.not that 1,000,000 HP is better then ME2s enemy protections, but using timely ability usage in ME1 was much more worthwhile.

If you want to be more tactical like an engineer with a combat drone, you could take decoy as a bonus
power. I switch between powers a lot though.
The sentinal works well with squadmates also. Liara, javik and Kaiden can all prime a BE with warp, dark channel and reave respectively. Overload can set off tech bursts or fire explosions primed by edi's incinerate or james' fire grenade.
Garrus, Ashley and James are useful as your third squadmate, for weapon damage output
It is the most versatile caster class, and works best with your squad. As for weapons I am currently using the mattock, and will most likely use the saber when it becomes available.
I found that after playing multiplayer, insanity was a lot easier, especially with its emphasis on caster classes

I brought along liara for stasis bubble and garrus for broverload. It was not, by far, the easiest of playthroughs (sentinel was) but it isnt too risky or easy. It's also very easy to adapt to different situations and fights.

Although the Firepower pack does skew it a bit since Harrier has very high DPS.

So far my impression of the insanity is that there are not enough enemies on most occasions, it's still fun though.
* I really wish MP abilities ported over to sp and vice versa.

For weapons I'm using the katana or paladin and squad mates are James/Garrus or James/Kaidan so have been able to get some tech bursts from their inferno ammo, cryo blast etc.
One thing I did find after not playing the sp for ages I had a lot of stupid deaths to grenades early game despite playing a fair bit of mp.

Liara and/or Javik are excellent squadmates for any player who's a biotic. Kaidan is also an excellent choice, as he's versatile with Reave and Overload. Very handy.
Another somewhat oddball build suggestion is a Infiltrator with a Raptor X + AP + Armor Piercing Ammo. Shreds everything, and it makes the concentration mod useless (You are rapid firing after all). Kinda redundant, but whatever, it kills everything.
Overall Insanity is easy but fun, especially compared to ME2 and the ME3 Multiplayer.
Off topic, I wish they could buff the Disciple in Multiplayer...
