We're being invaded by Mac people in the PC Tech help forums, we've got people in the non-spoiler forums saying Tolkein copied Lord of the Rings from existing mythology, and Morigan creating who knows what in her bellly!
I'm ready for the Apocolypse now!

Bring on the mass destruction, dogs living with cats, and forums trolls running rampant while moderators sip their lattes!

The Appleers don't seem any less intelligent than console game players so far, and we PC Gamers have the junior crowd underfoot all of the time, so that's nothing new there.

But that's exactly what he said he was doing all along, just wanting it to seem more Anglic than Germanic or Greek, or Nordic.

Never feed the Trolls.  That invites further inroads.  According to some, the "report this person", and "report this message" are going to EA, so those end up being greatly delayed before they are acted on.  Choose a moderator, and send him / her a PM every time a Troll is being obviously confrontational. 

P. S. I noticed that the newest post from a certain illiterate neon green twit was 17 hours old when I checked a couple of hours ago.  That could represent a good sign (EDITED in: the age of the newest such has now reached 20 hours).

I just saw an elaborate post on how to get a Mac to enter the @ symbol into the ingame login and was scratching my head thinking:

"Huh? I thought Macs were supposed to be EASY!"



But Gorath...tormenting trolls with tidbits of food is the only fun I have in life!!!



Tolkien invented entire languages for elvish, Mordor and the others in, then created the lore, histories, and stories to support his languages.

These guys were basically insinuating that he just plagiarized the entire thing. Of course, they probably are going off the movies and have never actually READ The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Something I've tried to do once a year since I was 16 waaaayyyyy back in the late 70s!

My first exposure to the Tolkien mythology was in 1965, when I flew out to Santa Rosa, California (actually just to SF, since Santa Rosa didn't even have a municipal air field then, so I rode a (chartered) bus the last 40 or so miles), for an Insurance Adjustors' seminar that State Farm was having there. 

My friend, Chuck Sewell, had all four, in the unofficial ACE paperback versions, and I eventually bought (hardback) copies of my own, but I only reread it about once a decade or so . .

It was my understanding that you could use any USB keyboard with any Mac, so even if it's a MacTop of some sort, with odd key placement, a cheap $10 keyboard will answer any such complaints.

AnandTech had several articles about that subject, and their subsidiary, Daily Tech, also. 

I have never owned any gaming console, and I'm pretty sure that my kids had none, either (certainly none that I gave to them), but the grandkids all seem to have had the things.

ARGH! I put in a request to one of the mods for a Mac tech help forum.

Even studying for my degree in computer forensics we barely even discussed Macs, and that was only to be familiar with the file system. I've been using PCs since '84, but I'd barely know how to turn a Mac on!

Hate seeing people asking for tech help and I don't know diddly to tell them lol!

Well, in the good old times it was actually quite interesting to find out how to get your specific mac on. I've used them for quite a while. Nowadays it is mostly normal PC hardware with fancy GUI on a unix clone. Driver issues are probably interesting, but mostly it is just more of the same.

There is nothing about a PC that scares me, as part of earning my degree, I pretty much had to at least have a working knowledge of everything concerning PCs specifically and how the Internet works generally.

But when a boatload of Mac people suddenly showed up in the PC tech forum asking how they enter an @ symbol for their ingame login, I was clueless for the first time in many, many years!



Nope, no fanboi-ism fairandbalanced, I just don't like having to say "I have no clue" when it comes to a computer problem.



I suppose I should make an effort to learn a bit about them, but I don't even know anyone that owns a Mac~

THanks Gorath! I bookmarked that site and will explore it more tomorrow. I'm always on the lookout for good tech, virus, malware information sites. I have to keep on top of whats out there and what the bad boys of the internets latest tricks are!

BTW, our beloved xbox fanboi responded by saying that the 54% failure rate was all in the past. I didn't bother to tell him the information I was referencing came from summer 2009 )

Mac keyboards do have an @ sign (although it's oddly placed for some versions) so I'm not sure a replacement keyboard would solve whatever the problem is.

When I got started with desktop systems, keyboards were comparatively expensive, especially the mechanical ("click") ones that I preferred My first was the Apple I kit, ny second was a CompuPro Z-80 for CP/M, both about '77.  A couple of Apple][s, some PC-8088s and 80286s, and a C64 later, I spent about $100 each for three Northgate keyboards in 1988 / 1990,  near the end of my first period of building my own systems. The IBM PC-AT keyboards from that time frame are still in demand today.

The main thing that I don't like about current keyboards is they are so light, they end up "walking away" under my heavy-handed typing style (I learned on an old non-electric Underwood with a keystroke abiout an inch long, and it weighed 35-40 pounds, so it couldn't have moved around.  The IBM keyboards back then (and my Nortgates), except the PC-Jr, had a heavy steel plate on the bottom that anchored the thing where it sat. 

I now have both the original Z-Board gaming keyboard with exchangeable sets of keys, and the newer Ideazon Merc "Stealth", which both have special versions of the WASD setup on the far left.  The Merc is pretty good, but so lengthy that it gets in the way when using a mouse / trackball.  I like my Saitek Eclipse II, with all the neat neon illuminated colors a bit more than either of the Ideazon Keyboards.

I was NEVER implying that Mac users could find their @ses!!!

This is nothing like the early days of personal computers, where there was Timex Sinclair (rubber keys haha), Tandy computers of various kinds, Commodore computers, Apple computers (pre-mac), and Atari computers. I left out Osborne and a few others because they were mostly business oriented. Such fun with everyone doing their own thing. The only thing Commodore/Apple/Atari shared was a CPU, so that helped somewhat.

I also haven't played on a console since the early days (Pong, Atari 2600, Magnavox...) and don't feel I'm missing anything; my year-old Wintel PC still puts consoles and macs to shame. If there is *ever* a compelling reason to switch, I might consider it, but after ~30 years of gaming I'm not sure it'll happen in my lifetime.

I don't pay attention to the lore comparisons or threads on Morrigan's child. It's all opinion and conjecture, much like the threads prior to game release. In fact I'm visiting the forums less because of all the noise.

I actually DID buy the Timex Sinclair as my first computer. I thought the keyboard was ridiculous and returned it. Those things are worth a lot of money now if they are in working order. If I'd only known!



After that, I bought a Tandy Color Computer (COCO), then the Commodore 64 was the first computer I had with a modem.



When Commodore had their epic fail, I went with the PC over the Mac simply because I could build my own for less money. That trend continues today, I just built this computer for $400 plus some hardware I already had on hand. It's forward compatible up to the latest $1000 i7 Intel CPUs.

I'm a PC user myself and some of the things that Apple have done has given me the impression that atleast in the past they were trying to be different just for the sake of being different. Just a thing like having to click and drag the disc icon to the trash bin in order to eject the disc seemed needlessly convoluted to me.

I have a friend on Flickr, a female gamer chick (yes, she calls herself that)
She was interested in building a new gaming machine. The pictures started out for her benefit and kind of snowballed into other Flickr friend making "fan-art" from The Gigabyte !


The last picture is actually my own pet, The AsheRat.
No, he wasn't actually in the computer they combined two different pictures
