Worthy RPG's?

Games I've really enjoyed in the past include Balder's Gate, Icewind Dale, Arcanum, Morrowind/Oblivion, and not too many others have kept my interest long enough to even complete one full playthrough. (Morrowind and DAO have been played for many playthroughs though!)
I do intend on trying Mass Effect 2 when it is released, as I've heard great things about the first one. So anyway help me out here. What games are really really good?

Old school, but I'd still argue it's one of the best (and I know I'm far from the only one).
It's available for the PC in the sense that once "could" easily obtain an emulator and ROM. Just sayin'.

Wizardry 8 I found fun if you don't mind turn based games.

My husband has played The Witcher and I do think it looks really good, but the main turn off with that game for me is that you can't customize your character. I'm a woman. I like to play as a woman.
I'm looking for rpg's with really strong storylines. Thats what I loved most about DAO. Fighting is good, but I don't want a game that is focused on the fighting solely. I'm not really into hack & slash and could care less about doing difficult puzzles or pulling "Mario-type" moves. I like to quest and explore. I also loved Morrowind / Oblivion because of the open land. It felt like an MMO without all the ****s.
I'm curious about Assassin's Creed II and what kind of game that is, and as I mentioned in the op Mass Effect 2, etc...

Assassin's Creed is not an RPG, it is an action game. Mass Effect 2 will be more like a shooter that has an involved story and a customizable lead character.
perhaps Knights of the Old Republic would fit your fancy. i cant think of much else that hasnt already been said.

The Witcher
Fallout 1, 2, 3*
STALKER + LURK mod
Jade Empire
KotOR 1, 2*
*I liked these games but others might disagree.

I would also consider Neverwinter Nights 2 and Mask of the Betrayer expansion. They are both quest driven and include a party to interact with. NWN2's cast and story is a tad generic and predictable at points, but it has its neat moments... such as building up your own keep. Mask of the Betrayer is the standout. It is a direct sequel to NWN2's campaign and features a pretty interesting, if slightly bizarre bunch of potential party members. It is probably the closest to Dragon Age in terms of quality that you will find out of the NWN franchise. Also consider springing for Mysteries of Westgate download if you go this route.
I cannot think of any others that you probably have not tried. Great PC RPGs have been few and far between for years now. I can think of plenty of mediocre ones, but I expect that isn't what you want.

That's quite an assorted collection of games, if you want some good recommendations then it'd help to try and identify what you liked about them and listing which well rated games you didn't like would help too.
From your list it doesn't seem like story or control method is what you like so why stick to RPGs at all?

It has tons of replayability and tons of dlc. Its available for PC. You can play as a women and it has plenty of RPG elemements; customization, exploring, leveling up, etc...
So what more could you ask for?

Fallout 3 is a great game as well, if you get it, make sure you grab the game of the year edition, as it comes with all the DLC now. It's not really a FPS, as you will miss shots based on your skill levels and such. They also have a VATS system which works as a more tactical system.
Other than that, I would suggest Mass Effect, KOTOR, or The Witcher.

currently im playing myth 2 with the lego tagset (makes the units into actual lego soilders that are from lego not the game) there are a lot of tagsets that make this the best game ever made and you can play single player and multiplayer online with a maximum of 16 people per game.
oh and its cheap, cost you like 10 dollars maximum

Agreed, it's basically what Hellgate: London should've been. But, it's an utterly dull and motonous SP experience, starts midway and lasts to the end, and you simply NEED MP for it to gain replay value (maybe DLC increases variety and entertainment value, but I haven't really checked it out). In short, a very good game, but you need other people to enjoy it completely.eriaa wrote...
I would suggest Borderlands, but it is an FPS/RPG, but really well done. If you really don't like playing in first person, you can mod in third person for the PC only. But the game was built for first person, so third person is a little buggy, in that when you shoot, it isn't totally accurate. However, when you use aim, it works like a charm. The game has lots of quest and lots of loot. Story is pretty good. However, you won't have to make any choices at all as far as changing the story goes.
