Viper is good for mook removal. It's good size clip and decent damage. I like it, 'cept it doesn't do so hot against Phantoms -- it takes more shots to kill a Phantom and landing those shots on the Phantom is quite difficult as it is.

Otherwise, anything else, it's fast enough to keep up with a Valiant, except maybe the reloading time. I still use the Valiant mostly as it is better against Phantoms, and I play U/U so Cerberus is always a possibility.

Yeah, never understood all the Viper hate to be honest, it's pretty viable after the buffs it got. If you can get your headshots that is, of course I'd probably never take the Viper into Plat, or against Reapers if I can help it.

Still I think the Valiant is better for me though I do have it at III. Shoots faster, and does more damage than the Viper, but the Viper is still good enough for Gold in the right hands and isn't terrible like some say.

Single Clip DPS Level X Viper - 387.33 Single Shot Damage - 332
Single Clip DPS Level I Valiant- 528.67 Single Shot Damage - 317.2

Now last time I checked, unless I'm firing only 1 bullet the entire mission. Higher DPS is more favorable to single shot damage. Thus this post was pulled from the abyss.

The Valiant is the best sniper rifle bar none, I hold my best all time gold score with a Valiant 1

The Viper fires to slow to do what the Valiant does so well.

For me there is not even a comparison between the Valiant and the Black widow

if you made this post by comparing the on screen stats then it makes sense, but if you actually took them into matches, it does not.

Really? I heard the Valiant is really good. I don't have it yet, even though I've gotten every single commendation pack thus far. I do know I hate the Viper though, lol.

This thread only suggests that the Viper need a good buff - preferably in ROF.

I also find my Valiant I pretty underwhelming, even on an Infiltrator spec'd for sniper rifles. I've found I'm better off slapping a scope on a Paladin, Talon, or Saber.

I wonder how my Eagle VI would do with a scope. Oh, wait, I know how it would do: terribly. Thanks for that, BioWare.

Interestingly, I have a Valiant II and a Viper I. On my Salarian Engineer (with SR weight reduction evolution) I find the Viper to be better as it is significantly lighter. The Viper also seems to me to have more damage per shot which I like. So, sometimes DPS is not the be all and end all.

Don't have it!

Lol, the one thing I know for sure I can do better than Stardusk: DPS with a Valiant.

If we play again, I will use my Val II

Don't forget the lack of zoom recoil. Any other sniper rifle feels like your firing a hurricane compared to the recoil on the Valiant. Zero recoil on that thing and easiest possible headshots.

Also the carnifex X. Same rate of fire, more damage, twice the clip size, less than a third the weight.

Lie.You could empty all three rounds into the head of some unfortunate before TC lifts with the Valiant, using the Carnifex you are barely able to get two rounds in.

The Valiant fires way faster than the Viper.  For an engineer it might not make much of a difference, but for an infiltrator who has to get as many shots off as possible in the Tactical Cloak window, the Valiant is a much better choice.

I can understand how one would get the impression that the viper is better. The Valiant rof is 100 rpm, viper rof is 70 rpm. The damage per shot is almost the same. So in case the valiant is not fired at its maximum rate of fire the damage would be comparable to that of the viper...

The only way you'd ever get the impression the viper is better than the valiant is if you've never used them both before. No way in hell someone would ever suggest the viper is better than the valiant, unless they've not used the valiant, or aren't paying attention to the game when they play.

Sorry but the Valiant is still better at one than the Viper is at ten. The Viper is still a great sniper but the Valiant fires faster and does more damage per shot. If I had to choose between the two it would be the Valiant every time.

No, it's not. They both have a RoF of 100.

^ Troll post from a normally sane poster.

Stardusk, I am dissapoint!

Sane?

This guy invented the Chargeless Krogan and stated that Tac Scan was overpowered...

To his credit, no one knew what tac scan did at the time and it was pure speculation.

Chargeless krogan is fine, especially with video backup.

Impatient baseless speculation is silly.

Mopey one-liner posts are pointless.  Productive posts should be at least four lines long.
