You really have to field test each gun to find out what works well. I never had the balls to use viper on gold but if it can bring down shield gating in 1 shot like in silver and bronze than it already outclasses a lot of the other snipers/

Viper is no were near Valiant. And even Valiant is weak'ish after infiltrator nerf. I have Valiant V and it's weaker than my Valiant I pre-nerf.

Valiant has a faster RoF. It is better.

Also, it has a greater amount of spare clips (which is the wise way to measure spare ammo) A standard Valiant has 30, or 10 extra magazines, while the Viper has 8. The Valiant will still burn through it faster, however it will also output much more damage in that 33 shots.

With a sniper, you need lots of damage in a short space of time, something the Valiant and other 3-shot rifles have. Bolt-action rifles deal lots of damage, but are crippled by the shield gate. the Viper has too low a RoF to be a very good sniper rifle, but as a marksman rifle for classes which can take a little more heat, it works debatably better than the valaint.

Or perhaps they just paid a bit more attention and noticed the Viper is significantly lighter. For some builds that's way better than increased ROF.

And any class that cares about weight is much better off using a Carnifex.

Viper feels sluggish vs the Valiant. I still prefer the Valiant.

Well, that's good I suppose - means Viper isn't useless for Infiltrators.

Just disappointed I did not get a Hurricane II, got the Valiant I instead. Oh well.

you should be happy to get a new weapon I just got the Eagle I and despite how much hatred there is I'm glad to try out a new weapon which to be honest isn't the worst.

Viper X: 286.7 damage
Valiant I: 317.2 damage

And the Viper is slower.

Carnifex X: 345.1 damage

Same speed as the Valiant.

This thread only suggests that the Viper need a good buff - preferably in ROF.

Why? The Viper is uncommon, the Valiant a promotional weapon, so of course the latter is better, just the way it should be.

I love the Viper. It's very power-friendly and more versatile at short-mid range than the Valiant, which I still believe wins at long range and overall as a sniper choice (I have it at II). I also love the Raptor, which is a severely underrated gun that's easily viable on Platinum. My current favourite is easily the Indra though. Its buffs have made it a prime choice at SR.

Pre-buff damage. At the moment the Viper at X does 332 damage.

Well, a X of just about ANYTHING SHOULD be better than a I of just about anything else.

You guys do realize that the Viper X weighs almost nothing right? That's it's strength.  Because of this your cooldown on Stasis is beast.  Also it has a good clip size and the RoF while not near the level of a Valiant is still really good. Not Raptor good (that thing sucks anyways) but with an Asari Vanguard or Adept you can statis and pop pop kill most mooks with 2 headshots on Gold.

Sad but true, the Valiant I is outperformed by this uncommon sniper rifle at level X.

If you're playing human soldier, maybe.

The Viper is amazing.

In Mass Effect 2.

Quoted for truth.

I loved it in ME2, but I'd shoot anyone who tried to bring it in ME3.

Still prefer the BW over the Valiant and I have both. Although if UR Valiant upgrades keep dropping for me, that may change.

I have the same set up, Viper X and Valiant I.

For pure sniping, Valiant is better and will certainly be awesome at a higher rank.

However, my Salarian Engineer carries the Viper to help with power cooldown. I like the bigger clip and with some weapon mods, gear and consumables, the Viper X is better than the Valiant I.

Black Widow is the ery best for pure sniping but I hate having to carry around something that weighs as much as a Mako.

The fact that the Viper, even after agood buff, is a shadow of its ME2 self is a travesty. Moreso than the Locust (because who honestly used SMGs in ME2?) but less so than the Revenant. The Viper needs a RoF buff, possibly up to 100 like the Valiant.
