At least not on consoles that is...

Console got a "sloppy" port
so sadly I can't see what all the hype is about

Though I did enjoy Dragon Age Origins as a better then average game but not as much as I could've of
i.e. if developers spent a longer time on the port

I bring this up cause people like to say Dragon Age Origins was better then Dragon Age 2 a lot and use it as a reference in reviews

But what about consoles? to which Dragon Age 2 was made for in mind!

P.S. Related fun fact Mass Effect 1 did not run well on 360
but Mass Effect 2 ran clearly much better

I played DAO on PS3, which the worst performence-wise. Having said that, Origins is the greatest game I've ever played, bar none.

Who cares if DA2 was made for consoles, which is the better game period? I think you know my answer already.

Really? I thought Origins functioned fine on the Xbox 360. Skills were easily accessible thanks to the radial menu and I had perfect control over my party. Dragon Age 2 isn't really different. It has a radial menu which you still must use to choose skills. However Dragon Age 2 requires you to bash the A button to attack against repetitive waves of enemies requiring little skill where strategy becomes pointless. Origins had your character attacking by himself/herself and depended on statistics.

So no. I don't see why Origins wouldn't function well on Xbox 360. It's my understanding that KoTOR played similar in that you watched your character attack too.

If anything, Dragon Age 2 wasn't a game suited for consoles (and no I'm not saying it's suited for PC too) because it required you to bash the A button over and over again in one mob fight which got boring quick.

Dragon Age 2 would be best suited for the primitive consoles which used joysticks.

Or perhaps this:

In conclusion:

Was Origins a technical mess on consoles? No. Was it unplayable? No. Was it hard to control on consoles? No. Otherwise all those critic and user reviews for the console versions would be terrible in ratings rather than great. Therefore the topic title is wrong and reflects but your opinion rather than the opinion of the masses or the facts.

It takes more than "it plays better on the PC" to make a console version of the game bad BTW. Origins on the console still had the same features, story, characters and dialogue as the PC version. The only thing it was missing was the tactical camera but was still playable without it otherwise please explain how I was able to play through the game 8 times till completion.

I played Origins on both xbox 360 and pc, and didn't mind the console controls. The main difference is the lack of the overhead camera and less hotkeys for talents and skills. I don't get why people suggest that the game was somehow unplayable on consoles. With the 2x regeneration bonuses on equipment and other changes, the game was far easier on consoles than pc.

That said, I do prefer the pc version for the mods, overhead camera, extra hotkeys, being able to tell companions to move to a spot without having to manually control them and etc. It's more of a convenience thing than playability.

I fell in love with Origins the first time I played the game, and I still play it today (over 10 complete playthroughs, with several other incomplete ones). In fact, I have a game in progress and my dwarf commoner rogue looks awesome in full Blackblade armor.

DA2? Eh...it's the bridge in between Origins and DA3, which is hopefully just as awesome and shares the same replayability and longevity as Origins.

Dragon Age Origins is easily the best of the two games. Its like following up a master piece with a rendition of pee wee's playhouse. The only thing I actually enjoyed about DA2 was the slightly faster combat and the skill trees. Everything else was junk.

While consoles get buffed item stats, I'm glad that I have DAO on PC. Bioware was sloppy in many aspects of the game development and I'm grateful that we have the talented modding community to fix several things that should never have been issues to begin with. Gear size and proportion, dialogue bugs, item and ability property bugs, infinite money/xp glitches, resolution & texture bugs, combat movement & speed problems, etc.

Having said that, with the mods I have in place to polish an absolute diamond of a game, DAO has joined Legend of Dragoon as one of my (now two) favorite games ever. I'm trying to decide if I should call DA3 DA2 and pretend the current DA2 simply didn't happen.

Personally I agree with the OP. I just reloaded DAO, and am pretty shocked by the low draw distance, goofy animations, lack of dynamic lighting and poor textures. Searching around the web it appears to be based on an old internal Bioware engine that's full of memory leeks to boot.

Only 3 classes, and this was marketed as a replacement for DnD? The story is generic, save the world from the orcs bore-fest. The "world" map is tiny on a HD screen - whose idea was it to use a non scalable bitmap to represent the world. The game is a series of small mini-levels stitched together with the tiny bitmap "world".

There are no skill tees as such, but you seem to have fire power level 1, fire power level 2, Ice power level 1 etc. Compared to a DnD and a lot of other games its pretty bland system.

DA2 on PC is better in almost every way. First off mashing "A" will get you owned in about 5 seconds on hard or above, also there's auto attack so why would you mash anything. DA2 has real ability trees, and some great cross class combos, melee and ranged are actually good and archers don't seem to be an auto-attack bot like DAO.

Abilities are thought out and balanced. Compare to DAO where the top level archery kill talent is worse to use than auto-attack due to the insanely long time it takes to fire off (you can get 2-3 normal shots off for no stamina in the same time).

DA2 has far better draw distances, dynamic lighting and shadows as well as faster loading screens. Moreover, on PC, Bioware released a high rez texture pack. The animations are much more fluid, you character no longer looks like an insect lumbering forward when they have their weapons drawn.

Play they game on hard or nightmare, you can have a great time coming up with the best party and class combos and items to beat encounters. The story in DA2 is frankly more interesting, you get to find out about the culture of the Qunari, the Qun and the intrigue or the Chantri.

What was bad about DA2

Stupid Final Fantasy 2 handed sword. Really Bioware? you start with an idea of gritty medieval combat then throw this stunt? Overall though the combat animations were far more fluid if a little too fast.

Recycled environments. Bioware is AAA firm or at least they claim to be. Clearly they knew this to be an issue, but at the time they needed to get SWTOR out, this decision was likely made by a suit.

So overall DA2 is slightly better than DAO though neither were 9/10 but more like 8 ,8.5 games. I hope DA3 could prove a good synthesis. Don't hold your breath thuogh, the EA suits have decided that all games gotta have multiplayer, oh yeah you can play as a dragon too.

DA3 is just as likely to be a real time "co-op" corridor mash and shoot as it is anything else. Look at the direction ME went. They may throw in an "RPG mode" to try to keep the grognards happy. Frankly IMO the suits are out of control they are just ruining franchise after franchise; they're not even good business people, a short term cash in does not maximize the area under the curve.

Well Da:O have better characters, better story ( than Da 2), more and better quests ( main, side, fractions, companions)- you have it all. Every companion (except dog :D) have interest story. For good equipment for youre Warden and his comapnions you need to complete some side quests.
Still better for me than Da 2.

I've debated both games with a rather large portion of people, and I still love comparing the two games. Firstly, as a disclaimer, I have not played Origins on a console. Which kind of renders most of my opinion for the purposes of the original topic moot. But for those of you still interested in what I have to say... While I had a great time playing 2, it left me feeling like there was so much more that could have been done. Sure we got to see more into the Qunari lifestyle and hear just a SMIDGEON more about the Qun, but what about the rest of it? No more real shocking revelations were made and not a whole lot of new material was explored. I mean, the main storyline felt so BORING. I honestly wanted to stab the next mage who complained about the Chantry. And then I was sick to my stomach at the idea of talking to yet another "Mages are EVIL, mmmkay?" templar. It felt like someone was bashing me in the head with the whole conflict like: "HEY! THIS IS A THING! BE INTERESTED IN IT!" Also, I quickly grew bored going through the same maps. Hey, this looks kind of like that place where I rescued some dwarves. And THIS looks like were I saved that kid. Also we're going to be fighting Qunari down here so...yeah, hope you REALLY liked this map and didn't spend a buttload of your time going over it to find all the little hidden areas so we can throw it at you again. But it's new and different!* (And by this we mean we changed the enemies and closed off your access to certain points. Still counts!) While I could continue in this vein, I'm probably just preaching to the choir at this point. But let me change tracks here and assure you I did honestly ENJOY 2. Hear that folks? 2 was FUN. It wasn't a storytelling or gameplay masterpiece, but I know I for one had a great time running around with a party and just destroying stuff. And the harder difficulties were legitimately hard. So every time I got irritated with DA2, I always found some reason to come back and grind my way to the end. Plus I think it fits on as a nice little sub-section for my Dragon Age addiction: Ya just pop in, throw around some abilities and make some Darkspawn/Qunari/Evil guys blow up (something that wasn't quite as easy or fun to do on the original). Well, love it or hate it there's my two cents (at least the abbreviated, probably misspelled in sections, internet version) Personally I say we all just agree to disagree and keep our fingers crossed for DA3, or whatever they decide to call it. I mean, we jumped from Origins straight to 2 not even just a straight Dragon Age, so I could see them coming up with something weird for this next one. And that we all agree the Facebook game was a mistake.
