Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if there's any kind soul that would make a mod for sword sheaths/scabbards :D I saw a post yesterday about how to make one. My cognitive level of thinking is disallowing me from comprehending such complex instructions that my nose bled upon reading the very first sentence :(( (dies) It would be a world of fun if someone were to make such a mod because it would bring another step towards realism if one were to make such a patch.

Thank you  in advance :D

The technical problem is, that the animations expect no sheath and you would cut right trough them everytime.

Even with new animations, with normal human proportions you could only draw a "dagger" from its sheath on the back. And what about maces and axes?

As for realism:
In all those millenia when men used swords, in all the cultures that used them, sheathed swords were always carried on the hip at the opposite side of your sword arm. Just try the movement to draw a sword from your belt and from the back and you know the reason.

When carried for marching, swords may have been strapped on the back, or carried on the shoulder, but never when they were expected to be used anytime soon.

Good point. But it would've been better (in my opinion at least) to have something covering the blades while still strapped on your back instead of having them bare all the time. I just got intrigued with its possibility when I ran across this thread: http://social.biowar...72/index/397369 where a greatsword version for a katana (pardon the lack of proper term) had its own sheath.

anyway, thanks for the enlightenment! :)

J.O.G,

As a point of order, I believe the Gladius was drawn from the sword-hand side....

But yeah, the "back scabbard" as we know it in fantasy games didn't actually exist. The sword would have been worn on the hip. Larger swords such as the longsword would have actually been more often carried on the saddle, not actually worn on the person, or if they were would have been discarded upon entering combat to keep it out of the way. Many greatswords would have been carried in the hand with the flat of the blade resting on the shoulder (think "carry arms" like with a rifle today).

I too hope someone makes a sheath mod.

I understand the animations are going to be ugly (and could care less about historical accuracy in a fantasy game) but it would be a good compromise to pulling weapons out of nowhere or simply having them float behind the character's back seemingly attached by magnets.

I agree to Vae_Victis! It would surely make things cooler at least :P

Mixing idea's is fun. Saw this thread and it reminded me of something else I had seen.

That thread is a discussion on setting your weapons on the hip when sheathed. I can try working it out to try and make a weapon scabbard for the hip when I get home from my holiday vacation.
