"I don't promote, what's the point, man I feel so hipster and cool for not promoting, n7 doesn't mean anything" - blah blah blah, same old garbage from people. Nobody cares you don't promote.

Welp, you accomplished in showing us that you don't know what "hipster" means.

From the tone of your post, you must have been outscored by somebody 1000 or more N7 than yourself.

By the time I had promoted and hit 360 I had my players for the most part where I want them, promoted quite a few for the weekend event we had to, sitting at 540 now and hope to always be there. I have reset cards if I screw up a build which doesn`t happen often as I research here first.

people 'promote" the class (level 20) into the single player game. promoting also resets your class to level 1. this type of play requires skill in leveling up your character again and again. promoting also increases your N7 rating. Those that dont promote dont reap the benefits of 1. higher N7 rating, 2. playing at a level 1 again 3. using the exp from the matches.
A lot of people cry and whine about promoting/not promoting. Dont listen to any of them. play the game however you want.

Once you reach level 20 with a class, you have the option to "promote" them. This resets the class to level 1, increases your N7 rating and increases your galactic readiness in single player. Since N7 rating doesn't really matter that much, there is no tangible benefit to promoting, other than stroking your e-peen with a high N7 rating.

way wrong
promoting helps on saving respec cards and i'm sure your build was so perfect the 1st time, but what the hell you might want a lil change to your game play so promote and change it. No wonder people are getting bored playing with the same build this whole time :( and its kinda fun playing with a lvl7 and not a powered up 20 all the time

There are 36 characters to pick from, and respec cards are pretty common. You can also change things up a lot through weapon and gear selection. You also almost never see a character lower than the high teens in gold or platinum, so if you mostly play those difficulties you'll have to drop down to bronze or silver to level up after you promote. That means fewer credits, not much more challenge if any, and fewer powers to play with.

Since there is a max of 3 on respec cards, there is no point in saving them. Used to promote every time I could, until I realized there was literally no benefit from it. For a challenge, I will occasionally respec and not spend all of the points. Then I can spend the rest if I want my character to be 'levl 20' for a G/P match. I have not run out of respec cards yet, though I respec characters a lot.

Why would I want to waste a card slot from a supply pack that would be taken up by a respec card, when I can promote which does the same thing?

As someone else already mentioned, take a look at their loadout in comparison to their rank to see if they actually don't promote or not. There could be some players that lie about not promoting to avoid getting kicked, ie a semi-smart leecher.

Don't promote if you want to get kicked out of gold/plat lobbies.

Untrue for everyone. My barely over a 100 N7 arse has never been kicked from a Gold match.

Though I think I might have just jinxed myself.

People say it so that people will get that their low N7 rank doesn't mean a ****ing thing. Most smart players just look at the loadout. I saw an N7 1700+ the other day with a Claymore III, so I knew they'd played less than the N7 210 in the same lobby that had a Piranha X.

Because you don't want to play Bronze or Silver and don't want to deal with PUGs voting to kick your level 1s from Gold/Platinum games.

It's personal preference either way. Claiming one is better than the other is an exercise in futility......and stupidity.

I don't bother saying I don't promote unless someone asks.
My Saber VIII and Talon X, as well as my skill with said weapons speak for themselves.

I don't promote because my builds are fine. I only promote if the weekend operation asks for it. Other than that, I get respec cards pretty frequently surprisingly. I'm fine with my N7 rating at 510. Besides, I don't like promoting just to tweak one power that I screwed up a choice on.

What's the point in promoting?
When the store trolls you with character cards, they're wasted if your have all classes at lvl 20

I've never promoted as I never wanted multiplayer to permanently affect single player.

I'm at 118 now, and at least 80 of those ranks are from character cards.

I personally don't understand people that constantly promote because I find it boring and tedious to constantly start over with no real benefits. When I see someone with a N7 of over 1000, I usually go what the heck is wrong with that person?

Was in a game last night on Silver with a guy who had 6000+ N7 rank.  He had maxed out Shurikan and Avenger.  Level 1 Human Male Soldier.  He was the host.

Would you kick him/leave or stay in the game?

I stayed in the game.  The guy got the top score against others who had Piranhas, Harriers, Typhoons, etc.

I don't know what that means as I do believe N7 rank doesn't mean as much as people think, but some people are just really that good.  The guy never bragged, but was polite on the intercom letting me know a brute was behind me.

Ditto.   I've been playing since launch and while I have been kicked before, it is a rare occurrence.  I've only ever promoted for events.  Generally, I think people tend to look more at loadout+class+level.  Hell, the other day I played with an N7 20 MQI with a mid-level harrier (V or VI, I think).  Only one person even kick flagged him, and he was unflagged pretty quickly.

I think the player base has learned enough to boot for non-N7 reasons.

Can you please expand on that?

What does promoting in multiplayer have to do with the single player campaign.

I thought Galactic Readiness was the only shared factor.

Wasted either way. Stay at 20, and the experience doesn't matter. Promote so that the character cards count and help you get to 20. Either way, it actually does nothing.

I'm at 1080, so I've been on both sides of the fence. It just really got old working to get a character to 20 so that I could reset them, just so I could get them back to 20. I felt like one of those pigeons trained to peck at dots on a screen.

The only thing that matters about the promotion system, as it exists, is that you enjoy your choice, IMO. Go with whichever floats your boat, since there is no wrong/right answer in regards to fun.

The tangible benefit for me is fun.  I'm an old school RPG player, I like building characters up and enjoy trying new and different builds.  As soon as a character hits 20 and can't be upgraded anymore, I lose interest in them.

But, I don't give a rat's rear end whether the rest of you do or not.

I really don't see the point in promoting except free respecs.

Same here. Though I'd have to want to change >2 races of the same class and have no respec cards to be desperate enough to promote these days- also if any Op stipulates promoting I'll do it then ofc.

Don't know about you but I don't have any problems playing on Bronze or Silver. Actually prefer Silver since it can be done in 15 minutes abd usually painless since it's more forgiving with PUGs and less drama involved.

I unfortunately work shifts. So PUGs is 99.9% oh my games. Besides I don't respec every 2-3 games (gold/silver) to justify the waste if a card slot per PSP.

There are 36 playable characters (excluding human female commons, and the BF3.

If you've played each character from level 1 through 20, and promoted each time, you'd have an N7 of 1080. More promotions if you promote to try out power tree variations for each character.

My guess is many players haven't given each character a playthrough from level 1 to 20.

In the end its really a personal choice about what you're happy with.

I promote often.
I like starting up with a character again.
Playing with character who is always lvl20 is dull over time for me, because I see no improvement.
