Once you reach level 20 with a class, you have the option to "promote" them. This resets the class to level 1, increases your N7 rating and increases your galactic readiness in single player. Since N7 rating doesn't really matter that much, there is no tangible benefit to promoting, other than stroking your e-peen with a high N7 rating.
way wrong
promoting helps on saving respec cards and i'm sure your build was so perfect the 1st time, but what the hell you might want a lil change to your game play so promote and change it. No wonder people are getting bored playing with the same build this whole timeand its kinda fun playing with a lvl7 and not a powered up 20 all the time
.
There are 36 characters to pick from, and respec cards are pretty common. You can also change things up a lot through weapon and gear selection. You also almost never see a character lower than the high teens in gold or platinum, so if you mostly play those difficulties you'll have to drop down to bronze or silver to level up after you promote. That means fewer credits, not much more challenge if any, and fewer powers to play with.

people 'promote" the class (level 20) into the single player game. promoting also resets your class to level 1. this type of play requires skill in leveling up your character again and again. promoting also increases your N7 rating. Those that dont promote dont reap the benefits of 1. higher N7 rating, 2. playing at a level 1 again 3. using the exp from the matches.
A lot of people cry and whine about promoting/not promoting. Dont listen to any of them. play the game however you want.
Can you please expand on that?
What does promoting in multiplayer have to do with the single player campaign.
I thought Galactic Readiness was the only shared factor.

I personally don't understand people that constantly promote because I find it boring and tedious to constantly start over with no real benefits. When I see someone with a N7 of over 1000, I usually go what the heck is wrong with that person?
Was in a game last night on Silver with a guy who had 6000+ N7 rank. He had maxed out Shurikan and Avenger. Level 1 Human Male Soldier. He was the host.
Would you kick him/leave or stay in the game?
I stayed in the game. The guy got the top score against others who had Piranhas, Harriers, Typhoons, etc.
I don't know what that means as I do believe N7 rank doesn't mean as much as people think, but some people are just really that good. The guy never bragged, but was polite on the intercom letting me know a brute was behind me.
