Shepard has been an integral part of the universe. It'd be like, removing Master Chief from Halo or removing The Fellowship from LotR.

Yes it can. And removing Master Chief from Halo would not cause the universe to explode. In fact, it's already been done.

Because the $60 map pack known as ODST worked perfectly

sure. There's a whole galaxy out there that we could play in, say 100 years later or something. Heck, we could even romance Liara again!

Here I was under the mistaken impression Reach didn't star Master Chief, either.

Of course!
Shepard was a good hero. But it's time to let him rest.

Exactly.

Goodness, the amount of fan outcry toward TNG early on was legendary. Granted, it was pretty poor for a while. But people eventually came around as Picard's crew began to rock. And Sisko's as well.

As much as I hate to say this, yes it can. But are people tired of Shepard yet? I'm definately not...

Reach was okay, but the main problem was you knew everyone was gonna die. It was just a question of how they shall die.

Also, Master Chief was in Reach (Easter Egg), but I'm not trying to catch you in a loop hole or anything.

To me I think that's the biggest shame of the way shep is sacrificed. It felt like his/her death should have been more in the heat of battle, with friends and squad mates around. When they died, their body would be taken and buried, and then there'd be a monument. whatever we did in the universe would help shape any future games and it'd feel like it mattered. With the way the series ended, I don't feel that.

I do think the series could technically go on without Shepard, but without some kind of closure there, it would feel very weird.

I do suspect that any games set in the future will in some way refer back to Shepard though, in an attempt to give us that closure.

No. It would be like removing John Mcclane from Diehard or removing Chief from Halo. Not a good idea. Although I would be intrigued if they went with a new main character

Yes.

I don't play Mass Effect for Shepard. Never have. I play it to see Omega, Illium, Tuchanka. I play it to see the Turians, the Krogan, the Salarians, the Asari.

I play it to see all the internal conflicts of likeable, believable characters.

All of these exist without Shepard.

Well Tolkien wrote a **** ton more than just LotR(They're also making the Hobbit into a movie). And Halo: Reach was fantastic.

Die Hard is a different animal. The DH universe is zero without McClane because there's literally nothing interesting about it by itself. The ME universe is rich with or without Shepard.
