how dare you compare jesus to a stupid videogame character

I'm pretty sure Shepard could create a biotic field strong enough to walk on water for a short distance.

i'm pretty sure shepard is an imaginary stupid videogame character in a stupid videogame no one cares about

Yeah, but only one of them gets to fight aliens and robots. I can tell who the winner is in this round.

The one where Shepard convinces the AI to shoot the power conduit itself.

i can't tell if youre a troll or a nerd.

Of course it can. Even Star Wars (oh, I dislike that franchise very much) can live without the Skywalkers.

Go ahead, do it. I'd vote on it. Make sure the poll is hilarious though. Or else buck-fifty.

It's ironic that someone who will actually respond to a thread starting with "first" is saying this. Lighten up.

Nah, I don't think He's a gamer type. He might be quite busy with being God... :innocent:

The Devil would choose an ending where all LIs' get raped by varrens. After that they would have a heart attack while they have to watch Shepard hitting on Harbinger and make a nice threesome with it and the Intelligence (the soundtrack of this scene would be the LI's whimpering and crying). Then Shep and the Intelligence would play chess while eating the LI's legs prepared as steaks and pour its blood over the consequences of your previous choices. Then Shep would go and torture and kill all the squaddies with a toothbrush... and crash the Normandy into the Crucible. The reapers would go all hey-ho and have a party over the dead galaxy. Then Shepard would be standing there alone on top of the ashes of the world and the bones of all the dead. Then he would say "I should go"... and leave after he kisses the LI's severed head... "never alone".

Yes it is, but come on! Leave him be. I'm a religious person and frankly I don't give a damn about these kind of jokes. To them religion means nothing, so they don't even know what the hack they make fun about. Unless they start to say very offensive things, it's harmless. Also, they don't care.

No single ideology or religion is -or should be above ridicule. If you can't handle a few innocent jokes about your religion than that only proves your weaknes, insecurity and lack of faith in your own religion. So yeah, go figure.

Repurposing things that are deadly serious for humor is kind of the staple of comedy in general. :innocent:

Well, can't argue with the moose.

Anyway, the MEU can obviously exist without Shepard. Any kind of EU material can go forward without the protagonist we're familiar with. The major hurdle would be making the new cast interesting. Getting accustomed to a new protagonist, as well as the protagonist's group of friends will be a considerable task for a lot of players, I reckon, even more so if they're not written well.

I'd be a bit reluctant to buy an ME game that doesn't go forward in time without jumping many generations into the future. It would be interesting, but there's a lot of value in keeping certain things simple. If they complicate things needlessly, it's doomed.

Shepard puts the S in Mass. Whoa, two S's. If you're happy with Ma Effect, knock yourself out.

On-topic:
Yes, ME universe is still very interesting without Shepard. I hope we get steampunk styled planets/cities in next game, because I just love steampunk and asari/krogan/turian + steampunk costumes could be something. And yes, I am currently playing BioShock Infinite.

Ma Effect - the game that makes sure you're following good hygene and being respectful to others....and if you don't once in a while, it'll be sure to let you know.....

Anyway....Mass Effect will probably survive without Shep. Will it be as interesting? Hell no; I really wouldn't be as interested anymore without Shep.

I think this is the wrong question. Can ME exist without Shep...no doubt. Can it thrive without Shep? I have some doubts. And not just without Shep, but without the overlying threat of Reapers coming to wipe out organic life. That combination gave ME an epicness that is not easily duplicated. It'd be like Star Wars without Luke OR the threat of the Empire. Maybe the story becomes Luke runs away from the farm to become a merc...might make for an interesting tale, but no where on the same scale.

I'm sure whatever they do it'll be a fun play, but will it have the same grandness...the same impact that Shep/Reapers gave us? Not very likely.

Yeah of course. Shep is not a person, it is just an avatar. The ME galaxy is much bigger than just a single human. ME depends on the species and cultures, the planets, the conflicts. The only reason Shep matters is because Shep is the lens through which we got to see all those aliens, the cultures, those planets and conflict.

We will just as easily continue to explore new species, new planets, new cultures and conflicts through the lens of a new protagonist. ME will be fine without Shep, it might even be better without Shep.

The difference there is that the Empire was a core part of Star Wars whereas the Reapers are a weak part of Mass Effect. Star Wars could exist without Luke; IMO it suffered more without Han Solo. I think there's also a different emphasis on what sells a setting with a game and a film, mostly since a game gives you a chance to explore the setting so arguably it's somewhat more important than the characters (although with appealing characters to explore the setting with it's even more fun).

Of course it can... they don't need Shepard for their universe to continue or for it to either be a prequel or a reboot.

No one in the Mass Effect universe can wipe their own ass without Shepard. So no.
