Yeah....actually,it would figure if Ferelden was...homofobic.

My guess is that BioWare didn't bother to develop that aspect further because it would add a lot of new dialogue. I dont know... i find it more immersive and logical to be looked down upon if you are gay.

At least in Ferelden, the land of political games where all is possible and Enchantments rule us all.

You are making the assumption that the average Fereldan has any particular strong views about homosexuality as a whole. While people's opinion would run the gamut of reactions to such bedroom behaviour, I would say that most of them don't much care what you do in there.

Unless of course you think that homosexuality makes you special and unique that people would treat you differently otherwise. In wich chase, how would they know as such if they are some random person in a village? Unless you constantly go around yelling at the top of your lungs about your homosexuality, only those that are friends and family will know.

More reactions would be nice, but it has one major downside: As Ferelden is a f*cking retarded medieval country, the appropriate reaction to a homosexual PC would be to send the templars out to burn him/her and his/her partner....
I mean, killing a few of these retarded templars would actually be fun for a while, just not the entire game.

Not really, DAO's world is more balanced than our medieval era in some respects, women allowed in the military of some regions for instance.
People like Isabela seem quite open about their bisexuality, but then she could kick the arse of anyone who objected anyway.

She is so open BECAUSE there are no appropriate reactions. Oh, and I guess this matter is handled more open-minded in an establishment like the Pearl. And yes, she could kick the templar´s asses if they tried something.
And I think I remember something about homosexuality being forbidden in Ferelden.... but I might just imagine that.

To another thing: I´m fed up with all those people  saying they don´t understand why there should be romances, if they want sex they get porn. This argumentation is sh!t, honestly.
  • If you want to kill people, you can join the army, why play DAO?
  • If you want to run around with swords, join a medieval knights group, why play DAO?
  • If you want to save a world, do something in RL, there are enough problems in OUR world.
  • If you want dialogues, talk to people...
In short, there is NO reason at all for any game if you argument like that.

Oh yup.Forgot that I was writing from a fictivous point of view. I had in mind a scene where the PC(who is a bard, sharing Leliana's love of stories etc.) performs in the streets of Denerim, teaching the people about true love by the means of an insightfull but otherwise odd story. Then, requesting the help of said Leliana, They take two torches, then, sipping from a glass of wine, they errrrrr... blow in said torches, thus creating a heart-shaped flame.
At this point romance is obvious, and the citizens shy away.

(the torches scene...look up on youtube Xena TWP opening and youll see what i mean.)
Will post pic to prove it is actually possible.

Usually anti-homosexuality sentiment is influenced by the dominant religion.

In this case the Chantry doesn't seem to say anything on the subject, possibly because they have mages they can persecute and blame for all the ills of the world instead.

Leliana for example is a hardcore believer, yet has no issues at all with being attracted to another woman.

Yea, that was the most irritating about Leliana for me. Religious fanatic and bisexual doesnt fit.

She's a hardcore believer in the Maker, but that doesn't mean she subscribes to Chantry's newsletter.  Do you know of people who believe in God, but aren't strict protestants/catholics/muslims or what have you?

/end of thread derailment.

WAIIIIIIT. Pause. Back up.
She is not a religious zealot. She is faithfull.

There is a big difference between the two,and if you take the time to discuss her belief she will tell you that she actually disagreed with her fellow cloister members.Unlike other members, she believes that the beauty of the Maker is in the world around her, that she cannot possibly experience it and enjoy life while locked in the Chantry.

What she has,and what she stands for is a respectfull and healthy attitude twards faith, whilst still doing what she knows is right: Help end the Blight, not remain in some cloister with those narrow-minded Chant-stompers.

And I Share her beliefs, somewhat, and have a similar attitude twards Christianity... to this day i am amazed that there actually was another way of having faith.:wizard:

Edit: Okay,I know this sounds really really creepy after re-reading it,but i cannot find another way to put it. I hope i sent my message across without seeming...rude/deranged/whatever:pinched:

Remember that Abrahamic religions teach that sex is sin, and women tempt men to sin for that matter. Anti-homosexuality is an extension of that. If regular, necesarry reproductive sex is sin then you can bet homosexual sex is eeeeeeevil.

Andrastean religions seem to sidestep the whole sex issue entirely.

Leliana says she disagreed with her cloister sisters, but I find it hard to believe. After all, she lived with them for a few years, but she will turn against you if you do a certain thing (you know what I mean, right?). Attacking your friend because he destroys a thing important for your belief seems a lot like religious zealot to me.

Yet cloister people are forbidden to have sex. (Lelianna says that in Lothering, Lily comes in trouble for being with Iowan....). So while the chantry doesnt seem to be as bad-ass about it as the medieval catholic church, it is certainly not completely open-hearted about Sex.

Sort of. Lelianna had the option to take vows of chastity, but didn't. According to her, many of her fellow lay-sisters did the same.
Lily's situation was more that being with a mage was inappropriate, and she only got into real trouble because she helped Jowan destroy his phylactery.

Not to get in an argument with you there, Tirigon. Let's keep it cool,ok?
My understanding of what happened there is that, story-wise, you go to Redcliffe first. The full length of the journey would be...around 7 days,to be frank. That time is not enough to form a long-lasting bond of friendship.
And!!
1.You just destroyed "The Holiest Thing on This Earth".That thing does miracles. I'd be mad too.
2.You can talk her out of attacking you, losung somewhere between 15-20 approval,IIRC.

EDIT: The Angry One has a solid point.

@Callistani: No offense meant, but rating a relic, no matter how holy, worth more than a human life, even if its someone whom you dont know for more than 7 days, seems fanatic, or simply crazy, to me. Even more so if this person is someone who fought with you and saved your life already.

I agree it's like one of your choices when talking to her "she is just a womans ashes in a vase" That pretty much sum's it up for me.
