Always knew he would become the new Arishok. Bit confused though it must work like Wrex and Wrev in Mass effect 3.If you didn't kill the Arishok sten dosen't take his place.And if you did he does. Or if you killed sten or didn't release him he dosen't or maybe like the whole anders thing if you left him in the cage and killed the arishok he takes the arishoks place anyway. This is from the Comic but i'm sure hes going to make an appearance in DA3.

Why do I have a bad feeling this is going to up like another Leliana/Anders retcon. It's nice they may bring back Sten, but I think it would have been wiser to keep him to Origins.

I would presume they choose him to be arishock because helped kill the Archdemon and stop the blight and he knows the Human kingdoms a lot better than the other Qunari.
