The arena concept needs a few tweaks. Some modifiers can help you (though they are supposed to make the game harder), and others are just unfair. For example, the close quarters modifier just helps sirens, but Vampire can doom you if you do not already have the best possible gear.

A stray grenade can also one-shot you and leave you with no way to get a Second Wind.

But then again, I suppose it was made for multiplayer and not soloing. Of course, those of us who don't have anyone to play with are stuck soloing or missing out on skill points.

So it needs tweaks, but then it's a good idea.

Playing through solo is considered a Badge of Honour (sort of) over in the Gearbox Forums. Be proud of your accomplishments Termokanden, especially completing Moxxi’s Underdome.

I have recently applied for inclusion in the esteemed ranks of Solo Champions. I hope they find me worthy.

If I have time I want to accomplish one or two before the 18th.

I solo'd the game.

Yeah, can't imagine anyone could actually find enjoyment doing that.

It's a co-op game through and through which is why I know I won't enjoy this one as it's built on the same formula.

Asides from Borderlands being mainly co-op orientated, I found it lacking in story for most of the part (though later it became heavier) too.

And what's with all this horrible day one DLC swarming around Borderlands 2? Even EA doesn't release that many!

And they've already confirmed expansions???

If I ever do decide to buy Borderlands 2, I'll be waiting until next year when they release the GOTY edition with all expansions and DLC.

It's a shame that you can't get a companion controlled by AI when playing in solo as it would have made for all the difference.

I'm gonna miss being the Siren God, with her buzz saw of a SMG.
Taken Cramerax solo 30+ times with her.

Day One DLC has not been confirmed, just preorder prepurchase of DLC's and early access. They are making a more story-depth campaign, as it being the almost only complaint.

Seriously, look at all the press releases, calm down, an good job saying it will be GOTY.B)

Come to think of it, are my Moxxi's Underdome certificates going to be redeemed at all?

I think it's fun solo. In another thread I got told I was sad for playing Borderlands on my own. I don't get it. If I am having fun, why is it sad? Actually, nevermind, I don't really care. If Borderlands 2 is follows the same formula, I will have a blast alone and in coop.

However, I hope they do something about the rampant cheating online. It was really bad in Borderlands. I didn't play coop as much as I wanted because of it.

Asides from Borderlands being mainly co-op orientated, I found it lacking in story for most of the part (though later it became heavier) too.

The story is paper-thin. Who cares though, Borderlands isn't one of those wannabe movie games with a cutscene every 30 seconds and a voiced protagonist. It's basically about having fun blasting things, leveling up, and loot-whoring. If that's not your thing, then it probably isn't the game for you.

Anyway, I agree that there has been too much DLC announced already. Much of it simply should have been in the game to begin with. A lot of it is if you preordered, but I won't really try to defend it.

It's a shame that you can't get a companion controlled by AI when playing in solo as it would have made for all the difference.

For the company or as a difficulty adjustment?

The skill tree calculator is up on the official website now so you can plan out builds or just drool for a couple of weeks.

http://www.borderlan.../us/#characters just click on the character you want and you get the full skill trees. It may just be me but I don't think it likes firefox, I had to use ie to get the page to load properly.

Shepenwepet approves of the Altered Beast reference in the Siren skill tree...

...and I'm guessing "Bus That Can't Slow Down" in Salvador's skill tree is a nod to the Simpsons' "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down".

I just made a kickass Axton build, focusing on the middle tree and going into the right one for a bonus. I really think that one's a winner. It's a non-elemental build with a huge amount of bonus damage and fire rate, with the good old Quick Charge and Metal Storm.

I am a bit more in doubt about my Maya build. Probably something... cataclysmic. Lots of neat elemental damage in the right-hand tree.

PS: I forgot just how fast Roland fires with Heavy Gunner, let alone Metal Storm. My jaw dropped a little. Oh and those 2-shot revolvers you sometimes find. Yeah, they have 5 with my current setup. I don't know HOW Roland manages to do that, but it's awesome. I guess that's what makes Roland fun. He's a master with ANY gun.

Loads just fine in Firefox for me. Thanks for the tip by the way!

Yeah, but Phaselock is still less overpowered than Phasewalk from the looks of it. But it might be more fun though. Phasewalk plus the 70% damage reduction for the few seconds between Phasewalks (with the right build of course) trivialized the whole game.

Anyway, I hope it all works out with the ammo in Borderlands 2. I'd hate to have to go scrounging for it constantly. I would be disappointed to find that there isn't any ammo regen this time around.

Phase walk was massively powerful. I used Lilith and regenerating health when you phase walk, causing fire and shock damage to anyone in the vicinity and more melee damage, meant you were nearly invunerable in most situations.

I think I'll use Axton's Guerilla tree predominately coupled with the health, shield boost and bubble shield options from the red skill tree. And the Gun damage from the gunpowder tree. Should be a pretty boss. build.

Oh yeah Radiance is a massively underrated skill. I see people complain that it does too little damage at high levels. Yeah, against a skag maybe. It can actually kill your average shielded enemy. Lilith HAS to Phasewalk to heal, so why not take the time and spread a little pain while you wait. It also lasts for 20 seconds and spreads on its own! So you can zap one section and kill another. When you come back to the first section, some will be dead and the rest are unshielded and damaged.

Anyway, looks like I will go for Gunpowder plus some Survival with my Axton. Oh and what's up with the new Grenadier? It sucks compared to the old one.

Yep, if your health gets low just pop on phase walk and cause damage while you self heal. It stacked with Phoenix too. So if Radiance caused shock damage it would activate phoenix to cause fire damage, from what I can remember. It's really effective when they stack, even on my second run. I was besting mobs of Bad Muthas easily with the skills almost maxed at level 50.

I think they are spliting some of the real powerful skills. The Saber maxed out on Guerilla looks bad ass. So toning down the Grenadier so Axton himself isn't so powerful is what they try to achieve.

The Gunpowder skill set boosts weapon and explosive damage, while survival, well boosts survival. But it looks like you have enough points to max out one skill tree, while dipping into the others, up to half way, to augment your build. I think it's pretty cool like that.

You will probably end up with more skill points later on, as in the first. You probably won't be able to reach the top skill in all trees this time around though. This is a good thing if you ask me.

The bloodshed tree for Zero looks very cool, looks like you can stack up quite a bit of bonus damage. Would be very cool if the melee is more powerful in general than it was in the first game.

Can't decide what to do with Maya yet. Cataclysm and motion trees will probably be best for straight out damage dealing as opposed to playing more of a support role.

Hopefully as dlc's are released they'll raise the level cap like in the first game. That would allow enough skill points to reach that top tier skill in 2 skill trees then.

I have a question about Borderlands 2.

Does anyone know HOW badass points are earned? From what I can read, you get them from completing challenges and possibly missions as well. But challenges were quite finite in the first game. Missions were the same. Just watched yet another video where it was explained that you get badass points for "challenges and things".

So basically, does the game reward starting up new characters more than sticking with your old ones?

There was a gameplay vid I watched a week or 2 ago that had a bit about the badass points, looks like you earn them doing in game challenges like the ones that were in the first game but it wasn't too specific iirc.

Any upgrades you get from the badass points apply to your profile rather than to that particular character that earned them. When you start up a new character you will have the option to apply those badass bought upgrades or start it as a completely fresh character.
Equal benefit for starting a new character or sticking with the old one.

Edit: Here's the vid, commentary and stuff with Randy Pitchford.

Right, doesn't completely answer my question.

I wanted to know if you can gain infinite badass points with one character. I ask because I would like to have just one of each instead of starting new ones.

Also, I assume you can immediately apply badass upgrades to your current character as well as having the option for new ones. For the same reason as a above: I would prefer if I am rewarded just as much for sticking with my favorite character as for starting a new one.

8 days until it is released here... Damn those delayed release dates!

I suppose it gives me some time to mess around with Baldur's Gate EE. Also, I am replaying Borderlands at the moment with Roland and am kicking much ass with a Heavy Gunner mod. My 6-chambered revolver somehow carries 17 rounds. Only Roland knows how it works!
