Not every product is going to be awesome or epic or world changing or blow your mind. Some are just going to be average or even a little unsatisfying. You can't hit a home run every time. This is not a tragedy. Everybody screws up once in a while, people should just get over it.

Y'know it always amazes me when people say things like this. Having one game thats was largely felt to be below the standard most had come to expect from Bioware and a couple others a segment of the fanbase didn't personally find to be satisfying from a narrative standpoint does not mean the company is doomed or that they will never make great games again.

They will get over it...just as soon as the current Dragon Age team proves they're capable of making a decent BioWare-quality game.

Of Dragon Age Origins, from the trailers to the title screen and the music, to the beginning cutscene, the game was is so epic and beautiful, a true masterpiece. What happened to you Bioware, you used to make amazing games.
I agree, just finished a playthrough and you can tell more love and attention to big and little details went into it, it is overall a more enjoyable experience.

Tez I agree with you to the point that DAO was epic. I have just finished my 5th playthrough and it wont be my last. I love everything about the game and i wish they were still making DLC for it.
Was DA2 as good? No, it wasn't. But that doesn't make it a bad game. Elements of it are in fact better than DAO (combat and 'party quests' are the first 2 that come to mind). There are some elements of the game that annoy me (wee bit too linear and I hate the re-using of sets) but overall DA2 is a superb game. The storyline is fantastic, the dialogue is gripping, and the background of some of your party members are excellent.
Kinda sick of the same argument but the abuse DA2 gets on here (for simply not being DAO) is ridiculous. Stand back from it, and play it without comparing it to origins, and you will enjoy a cracking game.
*sigh*

It's not that... Is because hype can ruin a game for you.
Imagine you close your eyes and expect to take a sip of Apple juice and get handed a cup of lemonade instead.. You spit it out, even if you hapen to like lemonade just fine.
DA2 isa game that stands well on it's own merits, it has it's problems with reused dungeons but other than that it is pretty fun. But it is not a DAO clone nor it gives you mre than 2 minutes worth of DAO companions playtime. So if you are expecting to see all the DAO crowd to show up and go on your party adventuring in Ferelden, don't. There is rougly 10 mins of Ferelden in the entire game, on a blighted path in ruins. Then 3 little cameos from DAO companions, 2 of them last less than 2 minutes. And the 3rd one does not remember your Warden.

What merits? I disliked the characters, I disliked the gameplay, disliked the story and disliked the art style. How can I like the game when it doesn't satisfy any of those four requirements? There's a game I like which only meets two of those qualities. The main character is an idiot, the other characters are shallow, the story is shallow, but the art style is nice and the gameplay is fun, and yet DA2 didn't hit any of those points.
I expect a good game when I get a game. I expect it to hit those points. If it doesn't hit any of them, obviously I'm not going to like it.

My point was simply that I myself might not have liked DA2 had I been expecting a DAO clone or had my expectations been pumped way too high.
It happened to me with Final Fantasy 12. It was a good game but I only enjoyed it a year or two after I bought it. At launch I had bought into so much hype that no game would ever match my expectations.
