It's not that I don't get them down. It's that it takes forever.

I'm playing as an Adept, mostly breezing through by using combos: Singularity/Throw vs. normal enemies, Stasis (Liara)/Throw vs. shielded, Warp/Throw vs. armored, and Energy Drain as a bonus power to bring the shields on Atlas and Banshee down.

Against the Banshee, however, I have problems. I bring their shields down in no time, but after that it appears that they are immune to biotic explosions. At least the combos I've tried didn't work, which means it takes forever to bring them down once unshielded. I'm past Sanctuary now, so all Banshees that remain are in the final battle, but I feel I need advice. What's an efficient and reasonably fast way to kill them as an Adept?

Banshees can put up a shield (They'll be glowing... kind of like when they have their barrier charged up, but a bit brighter). During this time you'll have to shoot them to do any real damage. The best thing to do if you don't have any heavy firepower is concentrate on other enemies until it goes down. Usually about 5-10 seconds.

As an Adept, I'm usually running around with a shotgun or the Talon which does decent damage to them, but having at least 1 squadmate with a strong sustained damage weapon on your team is good.

If you have the new weapons DLC you can kill banshees in 2 clips with the smg, I'd say that is the most efficient way as adept (ignoring squadmates).

Or just ignore them while they have the shield, there is no latency in SP and banshees without magnets in their hands are pretty useless...

Warp + Throw combo should still work on armor. You could also bring Garrus along. He can give the squad AP ammo and his prox mine can debuff the mob to take extra damage. Also it might be a good idea to bring a hard hitting weapon like the Mattock or Harrier to help bring down their armor.

Last night I kept running from them, used James's carnage and Kaidan's reave (or Garrus with concussive shot), I had a sniper rifle with me, wouldn't dare to have a shotgun and get close to it

Keep your distance if there are other targets shooting at you at the same time, they remove your shield in one shot, Maurauder shields shoot u at the back twice then you are done

One banshee is kinda okay, two, very nasty business on insanity, (don't get close to them when you have two to deal with)

Search for super weapon to deal with it first when you encounter your first banshee arriving earth

As far as I remember from last night, when I was defending the missiles, the first wave consists of two banshees, I took the heavy weapon from those cabinets, of which was supposed to deal with the harvester, it could only be used once so take cover and aim well, greatly weakens one of the banshees, deal (concentrate) with one first, then the next, do not divide fire power on two, it would make you panicky because sometimes one of them can regenerate shields, and you would go "BW, why are you making this so difficult?!" and proceed to swear profusely

EDIT: bad advice, I forgot u play adept, DO NOT GET CLOSE TO THEM, I play Vanguard, and even I don't want to close to them

Two more banshees will appear on the final wave after the brutes, I didn't even care for them, just concentrate on dealing with weaker targets and run from banshees until EDI gives go ahead, sprint to the console for missile activation, all hell breaks lose, banshees magically disappeared

If you have access to Reave, spam it. It ignores her glowing aura and stacks with itself. You can also grab Warp Ammo, a good heavy-hitting pistol like a Carnifex, Paladin, or Talon and go to town.

...or you can not bother with bonus powers and let your squadmates with good armor-piercing/heavy hitting weapons help out. Manually ordering your squadmate to fire gives them a boost in damage to that specific target(I believe its +100%?). By the time the Banshee puts up its glowing aura to block your biotic bombs, it should be almost dead anyways.

Shepard

Bonus power: Energy Drain
Other powers: Warp, Throw, and cluster grenade.
Ammo Power: Borrow Liara's Warp Ammo
Weapons: Mattock (with scope and shredder mod), and maybe a pistol if you run out of ammo quickly

Liara

Focus Powers:
Warp, Squad Warp Ammo
Other Powers: Use singularity and stasis for any stray foes that try to flank you, whilst you're concentrating on the banshees.
Weapons:  Phalanx or scorpion, Tempest

Javik

Focus Powers:
Dark Channel, Lift Grenade
Other Powers: Pull and slam for dealing for stry foes that try to flank you, whilst you're fighting banshees.
Weapons:
Phalanx or scorpion,  and Particle Rifle or Revenant

The strategy:

  • Use your squadmates for setting up biotic explosions.
  • Use Shepard for detonating biotic explosions with throw.
  • If your squadmates are dead, you can setup your biotic explosions with warp, then detonate with throw.
  • Make sure you make the most of warp ammo to weaken and damage armour, whilst doing hefty damage to barriers too.
  • Use energy drain to restore your barriers, since the banshee plasma balls and shockwaves can really hammer you down.
  • Use your hard hitting mattock to belt some damaging shots to the armour, whilst Liara and Javik weaken the armour with rapid fire bursts
  • Getting swarmed? Use your lift and cluster grenades to really pack a punch, quickly and efficently.
  • Bringing Kaidan instead of Javik or Liara, isn't a bad idea either.

Like thisisme8 said, your problem is that Banshees have a move that makes them immune to combos. Just wait for that ability to expire before combo'ing again. Or kill them before they do it. Either way, just shoot them in the interim.
